The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has taken a significant step towards ensuring safer schools in the country through training of over five hundred desk officers and coordinators .

The training held at the House of Chiefs, Oyo State Secretariat , Ibadan had in attendance the officers drawn from all the South West States including Kwara.

Declaring the workshop open, Head of Training National Safe School Response Coordination Centre, Abuja, Josiah Shuaibu, said the trained officers would utilize day to day relationship in host communities to make all institutions of learning safe.

According to him, this would enable them have access to informations capable of causing chaos in their various communities hence nipping it in the bud before escalating.

Mr Shuaibu also reiterated that NSCDC would join hands with other sister security agencies to curb criminal activities at all levels of learning in Nigeria.

Some of the coordinators including Atinuke Bashorun, Stephen Adesoji and Abiola Orisaawo explained that the training have opened their eyes to better methods to secure learning environments for students, teachers, and host communities.

In his view, Coordinator for Lagos State Safe School Response , Mr ola James said erring students would now have to sign letters of under taking of better behaviour.

The training is part of the NSCDC’s broader efforts to support the Safe Schools Project and align with the Federal Government’s Safe Schools Declaration. especially in the area of bullying, cyber threats, drug abuse, and cultism.

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has lauded the achievement of the retiring Commissioner of Police, CP, Ayodele Sonubi, for his dedication and diligence.

Appreciating The CP, Governor Makinde presented a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to Mr Sonubi at the Eleyele Police Command in Ibadan.

Gov Makinde who spoke through his Executive Assistant on Security, Mr Sunday Odukoya reiterated that there is always reward for diligence.

Appreciating the gift, Mr Sonubi described the gift as a big honour. He also seized the opportunity to acknowledge the support of the governor towards security agencies in the state.

The retiring CP noted that resources given them had assisted greatly in combating crime.

During his tenure, CP Sonubi achieved notable successes, including many arrests and recovery of vehicles, firearms, and ammunition.

Mr Sonubi who assumed duty as the commissioner of police in oyo state on June 16, 2024 will be retiring this month.

The Nigeria Customs Service has made a major interception of a large cache of smuggled arms and ammunition, raising serious security concerns.

According to reports, While the exact quantity and value of the seized weapons are not yet disclosed, the scale of the bust is described as highly disturbing.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo has encouraged newly recruited constables to uphold professionalism in discharging their duties and shun practices that are inimical to the service.

Mr Ogunlowo made the call during the passing out of constables held at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

The Commissioner of Police who emphasized the need for the newly recruited officers to ensure the protection of fundamental human rights of citizens said any unethical practices such as extortion and bribery would not be tolerated, adding that corruption undermined public trust and the integrity of the force.

Mr Ogunlowo advised the officers to familiarize themselves with the Police Act and Regulations and exhibit good conduct in all engagements, noting that their actions would play a crucial role in shaping public perception of the Nigeria Police Force.

He pointed out that the constables would be deployed to strategic locations to strengthen the security apparatus and address manpower shortages in their respective Areas of Responsibility.

Mr Ogunlowo reaffirmed the commitment of the Ogun State Police command to building a professional, disciplined, and people-friendly police force to enhance security and public trust in the State.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has appointed Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle as the head of the Special Intervention Squad.

The Police Chief has also assigned Shogunle to lead the Elections Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation unit, as well as the Safe School Protection Squad.

In a statement on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the appointments aim to strengthen internal security and improve the police force’s response to violent crimes.

The statement also announced the appointment of CSP Chima Ogarashi as the new Force Marine Officer, tasked with enhancing security and tackling crime along the nation’s inland waterways.

“The new SIS head, CP Shogunle, is a highly experienced officer in operations and public relations, with certifications in various capacities. He will lead the SIS in addressing security challenges while also overseeing Elections Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation, and the Safe School Protection Squad,” the statement read.

It added, “CSP Chima Ogarashi, in his role as Force Marine Officer, will oversee one of the Force’s most critical units, leveraging his expertise in maritime security, policing, and law enforcement on inland waterways.

“These key appointments come at a crucial time as the Force is set to unveil 25 newly acquired gunboats and plans to procure more maritime safety equipment to boost security operations on waterways nationwide. This strategic acquisition is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s proactive approach to safeguarding lives and property while reinforcing confidence in maritime safety.”

The IG assured the public of the Force’s unwavering commitment to addressing security threats and maintaining a safe environment for all citizens.

Following the incessant cases of crop destruction and cattle killings arising from disputes between farmers and herders in Olugbo village and its environs,  the Ogun State Police Command has convened a Security Consultation/Stakeholders’ meeting at the Olugbo Police Outstation.

A statement by the Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola indicated that the meeting was a sequel to the directive from the  State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, to engage various ethnic nationalities residing in the villages, to foster dialogue and mutual understanding to prevent hostility

According to the statement, the stakeholders’ meeting has in attendance key representatives from various groups, including Odeda PCRC Coordinator, Chairman of Hunters Association, traditional leaders, Igede Farmers Group, Igbo Group, Fulani/Herders, Youth Leaders from neighbouring villages such as Lufodo, Baale and Arege, as well as members of Agbekoya, Vigilante, Local Hunters, and other security outfits.

The statement showed that the meeting resolved that all ethnic groups should prevail on their members to embrace peace and tolerate one another,  while Community members were urged to report disputes promptly to the police or nearby security outfits before escalation.

It said that the Police gave an assurance to the stakeholders of its commitment to swift intervention in any emerging disputes to prevent violence, as the stakeholders commended the proactive steps taken by the police and pledged their total cooperation to maintain peace and security in the area.

The statement disclosed that the meeting was widely appreciated by all participants, describing it as a timely and effective approach toward resolving longstanding conflicts.

It noted that the Ogun State Police Command restated its commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence and ensuring that law and order prevail across all communities, and encouraged residents to remain law-abiding and report any security concerns promptly to the nearest police station.

Ogun State House of Assembly has called for greater collaboration between the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and other local security outfits in the state to ensure an effective security network.

According to the Assembly, this would especially help protect physical infrastructure and secure the lives and properties of the residents.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Oludaisi Elemide who made the call when the new State Commandant of the NSCDC,  Mr Remilekun Ekundayo, paid a courtesy visit to the Assembly Complex said the partnership with others like Amotekun Corps, So Safe Corps, Vigilante Service and Hunters Association would boost security across the State. 

He promised that the legislature was ready to give the needed support to the relevant agencies in the bid to achieve success in securing the entire state, including the farmlands.

In other contributions, the Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolanle Ajayi, the Minority Leader, Mr Lukman Adeleye, the Deputy Chief Whip, Dr Babatunde Tella and another member, Mr Waliu Owode, advocated the deployment of more personnel of the Corps to the rural areas and applauded the NSCDC for creating the Agro- Ranger Unit to protect farmers and farmlands across the country.

Earlier in her presentation, Commandant Remilekun Ekundayo had emphasized that the Corps was committed to performing the core functions of protecting national critical assets and infrastructure as well as the lives and property of the people. 

The Commandant said the Agro-Ranger unit was created specifically for the protection of farmers and farmlands from hoodlums, bandits and wandering herds, adding that apart from the counter-terrorism and anti-vandals units of the Corps, the NSCDC had also launched the Female Squad to work with the Federal Ministry of Education in schools and protect learners from being kidnapped.

Officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service have been charged to uphold the core values of integrity, diligence, and patriotism while discharging their duties of contributing meaningfully to the development, security, and prosperity of the country.

The Customs Area Controller, Ogun 1 Area Command, Mr Muhammed Shuaibu gave the charge at Idiroko while speaking at the decoration ceremony of about 60 newly promoted officers and men of the Command.

Mr Shuaibu said the well-deserved promotions were in acknowledgement of the hard work, commitment, and resilience of the personnel who consistently upheld the values and objectives of the Nigeria Customs Service.

He reminded the operatives that the promotion was not only in recognition of their professionalism, dedication, and outstanding performance but also a reflection of the organization’s confidence in their ability to handle greater responsibilities and service to the nation.

The Customs Area Controller encouraged them to wear the new ranks of authority with integrity and courage while working selflessly as role models for their colleagues, subordinates and the communities where they would serve.

He affirmed that the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr Bashir Adeniyi – led management was committed to ensuring staff welfare and career progression by promoting the enabling environment for officers and men to thrive and advised those yet to be promoted not to be discouraged, but to redouble their efforts.

Three kidnapped victims have been rescued along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway by operatives of Ogun State Police command.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed the incident in Abeokuta in a statement through the spokesperson of the state command, Omolola Odutola.

Mr Ogunlowo explained that the Sagamu Area Commander who received a distress call that unidentified gunmen were attacking travellers along Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway mobilized a crack team of officers to the scene.

He said the gang had engaged the officers in a fierce gun battle pointing out that five kidnappers were fatally injured while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The Commissioner of Police noted that one AK-47 rifle, 10 rounds of 5 points 6mm calibre ammunition 5.2 million naira and three mobile phones were recovered from the scene.

Mr Ogunlowo who gave the assurance that efforts were ongoing to arrest injured members of the syndicate warned against criminal activities, particularly among young individuals seeking financial gain through high-profile crimes. 

He reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to an aggressive crackdown on criminals preying on innocent citizens in Ogun State.

Residents of Ogun state particularly motorists have been encouraged to take advantage of the window provided by the Police to regularize their vehicle documents to avoid sanctions.

The Commissioner of Police, Mrpolice, Lanre Ogunlowo, made the call in a statement in Abeokuta through the command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.

Mr Ogunlowo noted that the step had become necessary to address the rampant use of unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, and dealership plate numbers in violation of extant traffic and vehicle registration laws. 

The Police Commissioner pointed out that the statistical review of 2024 crime data showed that most of the violent crimes in the State, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and rival cult killings, were perpetrated by individuals using vehicles in flagrant disregard of traffic regulations. 

He said that the police would adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward violators, adding that Vehicles found operating without proper registration or documents would be impounded, and offenders would be equally prosecuted.

Noting that the crackdown was part of a broader effort to ensure safety and curb criminal activities in Ogun State, Mr Ogunlowo urged residents to adhere strictly to traffic laws and cooperate with the authorities to foster a secure environment.

The Nigerian Police have rescued the Wife of the Former Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, Mr Hakeem Odumosu and recovered an undisclosed amount as ransom reportedly paid for her release.

The victim was kidnapped seven days ago at her residence in Arepo area of Ogun State.

The kidnappers had allegedly demanded the sum of 40 million naira from the relative for the release of the victim.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed that the operatives of the State Command neutralized the kidnappers, commended them for their swift and decisive action in resolving the case.

Meanwhile, The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has also applauded the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Ogunlowo, and the operatives who carried out the operation.

Mr Egbetokun reiterated the force’s commitment to protecting lives, and property while ensuring that justice prevailed.

The Ogun State government has concluded plans to do the groundbreaking of a naval base and naval dockyard at Ode-Omi, Waterside in Ogun East Senatorial district 

The naval base and the dockyard, according to the Ogun State governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, would help to fortify security architecture in the state being a coastal region 

Speaking at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, while playing host to the Flag Officer Commanding, FOC, Western Naval Command, Lagos, Rear-Admiral Michael Oamen on Tuesday, Governor Abiodun explained that the state government has approved and released a hundred hectares of land to the Nigerian Navy for the project

Governor Abiodun submitted that the naval base and the dockyard are important to the state with the sitting of a seaport at Olokola and the proposed oil exploration at Tongeji Island which he said has received the blessing of all the authorities concerned adding that the project would also be of help to complement the activities of the security outfit in the Niger-Delta area by diverting some of its operations to the new naval base 

The governor, while assuring the Nigerian Navy of the needed support towards the successful flagging off of the project, stated that all the bottlenecks that may impede the program would be sorted out

Congratulating the new Flag Officer Commanding, Rear-Admiral Michael Oamen, Governor Abiodun described him as an experienced officer who has displayed exemplary performance in his chosen career promising to support him with all the necessary machinery to achieve his vision for the command

Rear-Admiral Michael Oamen earlier in a remark said he was in the state to thank the governor for his giant strides in providing effective security in the state and also for supporting the Navy secondary school located in the state

The Naval officer assured that he would partner with the state government towards strengthening the existing security measures in the state for adequate protection of lives and property

The Osun State Commander of the Amotekun Corps, Dr Adekunle Omoyele has reiterated that the security of lives and property of residents remained its priority at all times.

Dr Omoyele gave the assurance during “The News Point,” a programme organized by the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital.

He emphasized that the Amotekun, whose primary mandate is to protect lives and property, would continue to collaborate with other security agencies to tackle all forms of criminal activities in the state.

Dr Omoyele who maintained that there is a robust relationship with other security agencies, noted that the Agency was not established to act as a rival agency, as being wrongly perceived by some groups, but rather established to compliment the activities of others.

While responding if his appointment as the head of the security agency was politically influenced, the state Amotekun Boss said his appointment by Senator Ademola Adeleke was major because they found him competent for the position.

They saw my efforts, cumulatively people addressed it, they said this man can do what we need, at a period Amotekun was deteriorating and when they called me, it is a call to serve,”  he said.

On the call for the establishment of state police by some people, Dr Omoyele said the creation of state police would help reduce crime in the remotest parts of the states across the nation.

Osun Amotekun Boss explains further “The historical existence of regional policing in Nigeria, that is, the state policing worked effectively in the past before its abolition, therefore reviving state police would enhance community-based security, as local officers would be better equipped to address local challenges “.

The governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke has commended the personnel of the Department of State Services, DSS, on the successful operation, that led to the arrest of 10 suspected members of Boko Haram/Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Ilesa, Osun State.

Governor Adeleke, in a statement by his Spokesperson, Mallam Rasheed Olawale lauds the alertness of security operatives, to eliminate the threats posed by the suspected terrorists, which gives further assurance that the security agencies are up to the task of sustaining peace and security of every part of Nigeria.

The governor particularly commends the intelligence gathering of the personnel of the Department of State Service, who have painstakingly monitored the activities of the suspected criminals and moved swiftly to cut off their dastardly act.

“This is a welcome development and a big relief, not just for us as a government but to the people of the state and Nigeria in general. I commend the security operatives for their alertness and intelligence-driven operation. We have absolute confidence in our security forces to keep protecting us”.

Governor Adeleke assures that his administration will continue to cooperate with security agencies and support their operations to ensure maximum protection of the lives and property of the Osun State people, noting that this remains his top priority.

He enjoins residents of Osun State to continue to be watchful, and report any suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods to the relevant security agencies, while assuring that the state will continue to be a peaceful state under his watch.

The Osun State Police Command has assured residents of its readiness to maintain law and order. 

The State Police Commissioner, CP Muhammed Abba, gave the assurance in reaction to rumours of hoodlums infiltrating the state and the Southwest region from the North.

CP Abba noted that his men had been stationed at strategic locations across the state, monitoring entry and exit points to prevent any form of inter-state crime incursion.

CP Abba “There is no room for inter-state crime incursion. My men have been placed at strategic locations, and they are keeping their eagle eyes on the movement of people at both entry and exit points. Osun is safe for all, and there is no cause for alarm.”

He emphasised that the command has implemented necessary measures to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The State Police Commissioner urged residents to continue with their lawful activities without fear of harassment or hindrance.

He added that the command is working in synergy with other security agencies to combat crime and criminality.

He added: “We have put adequate measures in place to guarantee the safety of lives and property of every citizen. We are advising the general public to go about their lawful duties unmolested and report any suspected strange movements to the police for immediate action.”

Recalled that the South-West security outfit, Amotekun, raised an alarm recently, over the infiltration of bandits into the region.

The Oyo State Police Command has refuted rumours making the rounds of social media that fifty persons have died in mysterious circumstances 

The rumour also said the  tale had led to the declaration of a State of Emergency

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, in a release made available to Radio Nigeria, said the story was a figment of the author’s imagination.

It also warns the public against the spread of fake and unverified news that could disrupt the state’s enviable relative tranquillity.

It further urges the people of Oyo State to go about their lawful businesses without any fear or molestation as the Command will not renege on its statutory duties of protecting all lives and property.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has urged Nigerians to collaborate with governments at all levels to build a nation where unity and peace prevail over division, silencing the echoes of conflict.

Governor Abiodun made this call during a special church service marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Ake, Abeokuta.

He emphasized the importance of preserving the legacies of the country’s fallen heroes, noting their sacrifices for Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

The Governor stressed that caring for the families of these heroes should not rest solely on the Nigerian Legion but should be a collective responsibility of all citizens.“Armed Forces Remembrance Day is not just another date on the calendar; it is a sacred moment to honor the sacrifices of our fallen heroes and recommit ourselves to the ideals they fought for,” Abiodun said. “Their patriotism, resilience, and courage serve as a beacon of inspiration for us all.”

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing measures that promote economic growth and ease challenges for citizens.

He also pledged continued support for law enforcement agencies in Ogun State to ensure the safety and security of all residents.

In his sermon, Rt. Rev. Emmanuel Akinrodoye, Bishop of Egba Diocese of the African Church, called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in faith, united in purpose, and prayerful despite the nation’s challenges.

He highlighted the importance of gratitude to God and extending kindness to others as pathways to healing the nation.

Bishop Akinrodoye urged the government to provide security agencies with adequate resources to combat insurgency and called on Nigerians to show appreciation for security personnel working tirelessly to protect the nation.

He also advocated for support for the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for peace.

Prayers were offered for the peace of Nigeria, Ogun State, and the families of the fallen heroes.

Two hundred and two officers of the Oyo State Police Command have been decorated with new ranks

The newly promoted officers include Four Chief Superintendent of Police, Twenty-Six Superintendent of Police ,Twenty -five Deputy Superintendent of Police , and One hundred and forty -nine Assistant Superintendent of Police ,ASP.

The decorated officers include the command Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso among others.The decoration ceremony held at the Conference Hall of the Command Eleyele, amid pomp and pageantry, witnessed by dignitaries across all spheres of life.

Decorating the officers, the Oyo state Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi urged the newly decorated officers to ensure they live up to the responsibilities that comes with the new rank.

He further enjoined the Senior Officers to practice their Policing duties with utmost professionalism, integrity, dignity, courage, respect and the fear of God

Osun State Government says it remains committed to providing support for veterans and the Armed Forces.

Governor Ademola Adeleke gave the assurance during the launch of the appeal fund and emblem decoration in commemoration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The Governor represented by the Deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi noted that the event symbolizes the depth of national gratitude to the service personnel who engage in the most fatal of all national services, in the defence of the territorial integrity of the Nation and maintenance of internal cohesion.

While assuring regular interface with Veterans, Governor Adeleke lauded the courage, gallantry and self-immolation of military personnel. 

He recalled the many members of the armed forces who were wounded and incapacitated in the course of national duty. 

Earlier in his address, the Legion chairman in Osun State, Mr. Peter Oladipo expressed gratitude to Governor Ademola Adeleke for various policies targeted towards improving the lives of veterans and falling heroes.

Mr. Oladipo, who reminded the state government of some of the challenges facing the Legion, appealed to Nigerians to donate generously to make life meaningful for the families of the fallen heroes.

The programme climaxed with the decoration of some personalities with the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem.

The Ogun State Police Command has alerted the public over an unprecedented increase in reports of missing individuals across all age groups in the state.

In a statement in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Omolola Odutola, regretted that only a small fraction of the missing individuals were located, while a significant number did not return home.

She explained that the command, as part of efforts to tackle the trend, had begun a public awareness of the need for people to prioritize their safety by maintaining a heightened sense of security.

The Ogun Police spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police, based on insights from rescued individuals, had appealed to parents to refrain from using commercial transportation services with unknown strangers for their children.

He also encouraged youths to activate digital communication and sharing features on their mobile devices while travelling, especially during moments of distress.

The new Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Mr Olutokunbo Afolabi, has assumed office.

He confirmed the arrests of 19 suspects and the killing of four persons in Monday’s cult clashes in Owo.

Addressing newsmen in Akure, Mr Afolabi said he had paid an on-the-spot assessment to Owo Township to get firsthand information on the crisis, and a full-scale investigation had been launched to ascertain the real cause of the mayhem.

The new Police Commissioner pointed out that normalcy had been restored to Owo, and the residents of the town were complying with the curfew imposed by Governor Aiyedatiwa.

The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, who was posted to Ondo State on December 24, 2024, promised that he would enhance professionalism, discipline and welfare packages for his officers.

Mr Afolabi who lamented the proliferation of illegal firearms in circulation as demonstrated by killings in Owo, said he would deploy his men to arrest bearers and retrieve such weapons.

He warned that he would set up a special team to monitor the operations of policemen on roads in the state to checkmate their excesses of alleged molestation of road users.

The new Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Wilfred Afolabi, paid his first official visit to the State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Monday. 

Governor Aiyedatiwa received the Police Commissioner at the Presidential Lodge of the Government House in Akure. 

During the visit, the immediate past Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr. Abayomi Oladipupo, formally introduced his successor to the Governor.

The Police bosses also used the visit to brief the governor on the security disturbances in Owo Local Government Area of the State.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has urged the officers of the Nigeria Police Force to discharge of their duty with civility and professionally.

Governor Adeleke made the call while decorating five newly promoted police officers attached his office, including Chief Security Officer, at Government House, Osogbo, the State Capital.

Governor Adeleke said there is need for the Nigeria Police Force to ensure strict compliance to professionalism by all Officers in the line of their duties without embarrassing people.

While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the Governor encouraged them not to relent in their efforts to maintain law and order and continue to sustain the reigning peace in the State.

He also advised police officers to always dress and appear neat at their respective duty posts.

Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Matters, Barrister Samuel Ojo who presented the officers to the Governor urged them to continue to be good ambassador of Nigeria Police Force.

Speaking on behalf of other officers, the Chief Security Officer to Governor Adeleke, CSP Adefisoye Kazeem appreciated the Nigeria Police Service Commission and the State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke for the recommendation and promotion, pledging their continued commitment to duty.

The newly promoted officers are Adefisoye Kazeem as Chief Superintendent of Police, Yinusa Kehinde as Superintendent of Police, while Gbemisola Adeyemi, Waheed Mumini and Muyiwa Awogbade were all promoted to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has called on security agencies to design and deploy workable strategies that would ensure adequate protection of lives and property during this Christmas period.

The governor made the call when he received the new Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Mr. Lanre Ogunlowo, who paid him a courtesy call in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

He commended the security agencies for ensuring peace and tranquillity, noting that, unscrupulous people are bound to take advantage of the period to cause security breaches in the state.

The Governor, while informing the new State police chief about the steps taken to secure the State and its people, said his administration reinvigorated the State Security Trust Fund to provide modern equipment and logistics to the security agencies, noting that this has helped make Ogun one of the most peaceful states in the country.

He emphasized the importance of inter-agency synergy, which he said has contributed to the peace being enjoyed in the state.

Governor Abiodun maintained that the State’s position as number three in Internally Generated Revenue would not have been possible in an atmosphere of insecurity, pointing out the issue of cultism, which is prevalent in some parts of the state, urging the new police chief to liaise with his colleagues from other agencies to find a final solution to it.

The first citizen of the state, commended the Inspector General of Police ,IGP, for deploying a highly intelligent and professionally sound officer to the state and equipping him with two Armoured Personnel Carriers, adding that the new CP’s practical training and qualifications have prepared him for the position.

While pledging to do all it takes to keep the State peaceful, the State helmsman assured that his administration would continue to support the State Police Command and other security agencies to maintain peace and order across the State at all times.

Speaking earlier, the new Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Ogunlowo, said he is in the State to add value to what he met on the ground, assuring that with the support of the state government, cooperation from sister security agencies, and the additional Armoured Personnel Carriers given by the Inspector General of Police, he would work to secure the people and gain their trust.

Mr Ogunlowo appealed to the public to support police and other security agencies in achieving their mandates.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has called on Nigerians to prioritize security as a collective responsibility to ensure a safe and harmonious environment for all. 

He made the appeal during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration, Launch of the Emblem and Appeal Fund at the Lady Jibowu Hall, Government House Grounds, Ado Ekiti.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Oyebanji emphasized the need to shun actions that deepen divisions along ethnic, religious, or political lines, urging citizens to foster unity and peaceful coexistence. 

He said the launch of the emblem and appeal fund symbolizes support and appreciation for the gallant men and women of the armed forces, calling for generous donations to honour their sacrifices and sustain the fight for the nation’s freedom and progress. 

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing lives and properties in Ekiti state, with a pledge to leave no stone unturned in its efforts, while admonishing residents to support the initiatives by providing timely and useful information that could aid security efforts.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Ekiti State, retired Colonel AbdulRazaq Atoki, expressed gratitude to Governor Oyebanji for recognizing the contributions of the veterans and appealed for the inclusion of the state legion in the state’s social welfare packages. 

In another development, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has again appealed to friends, associates, and the public to forgo organizing birthday parties or placing newspaper advertisements to mark his 57th birthday on Saturday.

In a statement in Ado Ekiti, Governor Oyebanji encouraged those who wish to celebrate with him to channel their goodwill towards helping less privileged children in the state. 

He urged individuals to make cash or material donations to support the three Government Special Schools in Ekiti State, as well as the State Relief and Rehabilitation Centre for the Mentally Challenged in Ado Ekiti. 

The governor noted that gifts and donations to these institutions would be the most appreciated way to mark his birthday.

Governor Oyebanji expressed his heartfelt gratitude to those who contributed to the special schools during his birthday last year, emphasizing that such acts of kindness have a more meaningful impact on society.
