Residents of Ogun state particularly motorists have been encouraged to take advantage of the window provided by the Police to regularize their vehicle documents to avoid sanctions.
The Commissioner of Police, Mrpolice, Lanre Ogunlowo, made the call in a statement in Abeokuta through the command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola.
Mr Ogunlowo noted that the step had become necessary to address the rampant use of unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, and dealership plate numbers in violation of extant traffic and vehicle registration laws.
The Police Commissioner pointed out that the statistical review of 2024 crime data showed that most of the violent crimes in the State, including kidnapping, armed robbery, and rival cult killings, were perpetrated by individuals using vehicles in flagrant disregard of traffic regulations.
He said that the police would adopt a zero-tolerance approach toward violators, adding that Vehicles found operating without proper registration or documents would be impounded, and offenders would be equally prosecuted.
Noting that the crackdown was part of a broader effort to ensure safety and curb criminal activities in Ogun State, Mr Ogunlowo urged residents to adhere strictly to traffic laws and cooperate with the authorities to foster a secure environment.
