The Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, has declared candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP in the just concluded council polls as winners in all the 33 local government areas of the state.

Announcing results of the elections at the commission’s headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan, the Returning Officers from the various local government areas, declared that the PDP candidates defeated candidates of the opposition political parties, including the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Labour Party, LP, Social Democratic Party, SDP, and others to emerge victorious.

In a remark, OYSIEC Chairman, Aare Isiaka Olagunju explained that the commission would work on areas that required improvement for better election management in future.

Aare Olagunju equally said the post-election report would be made public when completed.

He also commended stakeholders in the election process including the Inter-party Advisory Council, IPAC, the National Orientation Agency, NOA, the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency, OYACA for being partners in progress towards the successful conduct of the election.

One of the re-elected PDP candidates and Chairman of Ibadan North East, Mr. Ibrahim Akintayo while reacting to his victory, promised to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people at the grassroots.

The Chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Aare Isiaka Olagunju, SAN, has emerged as the first elected chairman, Yoruba Lawyers Forum.

    Aare Olagunju emerged unopposed to lead the eight member governing council of the Yoruba silks also known as Egbe Amofin Oodua across branches in the South West for the next two years.

     In his acceptance speech, Aare Olagunju pledged to ensure unity among members, empower the young lawyers and uplift the association’s status to become a force to reckon with in the Nigerian Bar.

    Earlier, the outgoing caretaker chairman of the association, Professor Oluwole Akintayo explained that his committee has delivered on its mandate which includes deepen friendship among Yoruba legal practitioners, recommendation of trustees to the general assembly and registration of the association.

    In an interview, some members of the association including the former chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Ibadan Branch, Mr. Ibrahim Lawal, Mr. Adesina Adegbite, SAN and the newly sworn-in vice chairman, Mrs Oluwatoyin Bashorun, SAN said they are hopeful that the new executives would foster unity, use their connections  to improve court facilities across the South West.

  Other members of the newly sworn-in executives of the Yoruba Lawyers Forum are the secretary, Mr. Adetunji Osho, Assistant Secretary, Mr. Ademola Ikujuni, Financial Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Oyadola, the Treasurer, Mr. Rotimi Olorunfemi, the Publicity Secretary, Olayinka Sokoya, the Welfare Secretary, Mr. Paul Akomolafe and the Auditor, Mr. Moshood Abiola.

    Highlights of the event were presentation of commendation certificates to the Electoral Committee headed by Alhaji Tajudeen Oladoja, SAN, caretaker Committee members and outstanding members for their contributions to the development of the association.

The chairmanship candidate of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in Ido local government, Mr. Sherif Adeojo has been declared winner of the 2021 polls.   

 The chairman, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Aare  Isiaka Olagunju made the declaration following presentation of election results by the Returning Officer, Dr Emmanuel Mabayoje from the University of Ibadan, at the commission’s headquarters, Agodi, Ibadan.   

 Dr Mabayoje stated that Mr. Adeojo scored 19, 744, to defeat his close runner up Mr. Semiu Folarin of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP who polled 637.   

 It would be recalled that the chairmanship and councilorship elections into ten wards in Ido local government was rescheduled for yesterday ( Wednesday) due to omission of ZLP logo on ballot papers for the elections.

Arrangements have been concluded for the local government councils election tomorrow in Oyo state.

According to the Chairman, Oyo State Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, Aare Isiaka Olagunju, all sensitive materials have been distributed to all local government.        

He reiterated the commitment of the commission to conduct a credible election for the people of Oyo state.

To ensure adequate preparation, Oyo state government has declared today as public holiday to allow residents travel to their localities for the local government election.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, the state government enjoins residents to go about their duties peacefully and enjoins them to perform their civic responsibility without fear or favour  

Meanwhile, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC has deployed two thousand eight hundred personnel for local government election for the local government elections.

NSCDC commandant, Mr. Iskilu Akinsanya during a security briefing in Ibadan said the corps is fully ready to protect lives and property of the citizens of the state.

Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, has stressed the importance of adequate security in ensuring credible elections.

Chairman, OYSIEC, Aare Isiaka Olagunju stated this during a courtesy visit to the office of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State, Ibadan, to familiarise with the security apparatus ahead of local government election in the state.

While reiterating the commitment of the commission to conduct an election that would be free of voter harassment and intimidation, Aare Olagunju noted that such could not be achieved without the collaboration of security agencies, hence the need for the visit.

Aare Olagunju, added that the commission would not relent in its awareness and advocacy drive on the importance of massive participation of the citizens of Oyo State at the electoral process at the grassroots.

In a remark, the State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Alhaji Iskilu Akinsanya, assured the populace of security of lives and property before, during and after the conduct of local government council polls.

He encouraged the commission to always update the corps about its activities for them to play their role as expected.
