Child Rights Group Partners Delta Govt. on Checking Abuse

The Delta State Child’s Rights Implementation Committee says the body will partner with the state government and relevant stakeholders towards achieving its mandate of promoting the enforcement of laws aimed at protecting children and adolescents from violence and abuse.

This was part of resolutions reached in Asaba, the state capital follow a meeting of members of the committee, which include representatives of the clergy, the media, and the ministries of justice, health and education.

The Chairman of the Committee and Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Women Affairs Mrs. Kevwe Agas, noted the Child’s Right Advocacy committee will also solicit the support of traditional institutions to strengthen the protection of children at the community level.

The Chairman announced that plans have been perfected to replicate the Child Rights Implementation Committee in all twenty five local government areas of the state.

Members of the Child’s Rights Implementation Committee also decried the rise in moral decadence among children in some basic schools, stressing the group will embark on sensitization visit to schools aimed at reversing the trend.

Report Incident of Abuse, NSCDC Tells Children

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Osun State Command, has advised students, particularly females, to always expose anybody that abuses them.

The Zonal Commander in charge of Zone J, Assistant Commandant General, Fasiu Adeyinka, gave the advice in Osogbo at the first anniversary of the Special Female Squad of NSCDC.

Represented by the Deputy Commandant of Corps, Sanusi Saliu, Mr Adeyinka noted that it was imperative for all to fight both external and internal forces that threaten the peaceful atmosphere in schools across the country.

Mr Adeyinka, who lauded the Commandant General for deeming it fit to establish the squad, described him as a true father who felt there was a need to put an end to kidnapping and banditry activities within and around schools across the country.

The State Commandant, Mr Sunday Agboola, represented by his second-in-command, Deputy Commandant of Corps, Adeoti Joseph, also commended the CG for the initiative, describing him as a visionary leader and a lover of children.

Noting that children are leaders of tomorrow, Mr Agboola said it was expedient to protect them from both internal and external attacks.

He said the establishment of the Special Female Squad was never by accident, saying that God knows the trained female officers have a special assignment in the development of the country. 

In a lecture entitled, ‘Effects of Safe School on Gender-Base Violence, a Stakeholder Lola Way’, observed that a nation cannot experience peace if the rights of the female gender are wantonly abuse.

She called on children to break the silence when they are being violated, saying when you see something, say something and do something.

Medical Expert Raises Alarm Over Abuse Of Earpiece, Headsets, Ear-pods

A medical expert, Dr Oladipupo Olaleye has decried the increasing rate of Nigerians using earpieces, headsets and ear-pod, describing the act as injurious to the ear.

Dr Olaleye made this known during a motorcade sensitization campaign for students of the Polytechnic Ibadan.

He said people who are often exposed to loud sounds are liable to suffer permanent hearing loss and other hearing impairment if not immediately checked.

The medical experts explained that the aim of the campaign was to raise awareness on the dangers associated with oneself to loud sounds which he said was more common among the youth.

Dr Olaleye also appealed to Nigerians to always monitor sound levels and reduce the time spent around noisy environments.

He said “It is possible to have a good hearing across the life course through ear and hearing care, many common causes of hearing loss can be prevented if people heed to advice”

He however cautioned against youths’ attitudes to increasing the volume in cars and clubs, saying such action is dangerous.
