…Demand N100m ransom

Six weeks after the abduction of Anglican Bishop, his wife and driver in Oyo State, a farm supervisor at late former Governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala has also been kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen.

Recall that the Anglican Bishop of Jebba Diocese in Kwara State, Rev. Oluwaseun Aderogba alongside his wife and driver were abducted on the new Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway on June 13, 2022.

Investigation revealed that the abductee, simply identified as Christopher Bakare was kidnapped on Saturday evening at TDB farms situated at JaVa

The kidnappers are said to have reached out to both the families of the victim and the owner of the farm for a ransom of N100m.

“Yes, they are Fulani herdsmen quite alright but they speak a smattering of Yoruba.

“The victim was kidnapped on the farm amid a staccato of gunshots. We have been trying to negotiate with them even though the police had been informed.” One of the impeccable families’ sources confirmed.

All efforts to get reactions from the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Adewale Osifeso were not successful as he was not picking up his calls and reply messages sent to him on WhatsApp. When contacted also, the state Commandant of Western Nigeria Security Network, WNSN, codenamed Amotekun, Colonel Olayinka Olayanju, retd, said he was not aware of the incident.

President Muhammadu Buhari has described the late Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala as a man who did things differently while in office.

The President stated this in a message through the Vice President, Professor Yemi  Osinbajo to the Funeral and Thanksgiving service held in honour of Alao-Akala in Ogbomoso.

President Buhari who also condoled with the entire Ogbomoso land and immediate family of the deceased, described Alao- Akala as a veteran in the field of politics.

Also eulogising the virtues of the late governor, Oyo state Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde promised to adequately immortalize the late Adebayo Alao-Akala.

Governor Makinde who recalled the cordial relationship that existed between him and the late Akala said the deceased was a political mentor to him.

In a remark for the bereaved family, son of the deceased, Olamiju Alao- Akala expressed gratitude to all that graced the occasion.

The event, which attracted people from all walks of life including Governors, former Governors, captains of industries, politicians and traditional rulers featured various song renditions.

Interdenominational service in honour of the former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Alao-Akala is ongoing at the Beulah Baptist Conference Centre, Ogbomoso.

The remains of Adebayo Alao-Akala, in a silver-plated casket, had been moved into the auditorium in a motorcade, while security has been beefed up across Ogbomoso to maintain law and order.

In a sermon, President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend Dr Israel Akanji stressed the need for people to love one another as exemplified by Jesus Christ.

Ministering on the topic, ‘Inheriting Eternal life’ , the cleric said it was essential for all mankind to show mercy and compassion in their daily lives.

Revered Akanji reminded the congregation that death is the end of all mankind.

In attendance at the service are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, Minister of Youths and sports Sunday Dare, traditional rulers, captains of industries and many other dignitaries.

The remains of Adebayo Alao-Akala is expected to be committed to mother earth at his Ogbomoso home after the funeral service.

All is now set for the interdenominational funeral and thanksgiving service in honour of former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala in Ogbomoso.

 According to our correspondent, the remains of Alao- Akala was moved in a motorcade ridden by horse across Ogbomoso as people in their hundreds struggle to have a glimpse of the remains of him.

The conference auditorium of Beulah Baptist Church, Ogbomoso, venue of the event is already a beehive of activities as people troop in en mass.

Among the dignitaries expected at the event are the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and State Governors, as sighted on tagged Seats reserved for expected guests to avoid confusion.

There has also been watertight security around Ogbomoso as security men have been placed at strategic locations to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, some shops are not opened for businesses as residents pay their last respect to a political icon.

Friends and relatives are dressed in white and blue ankara attires.

Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala died on the 12th of January this year, at the age of Seventy one.

He is expected to be committed to mother earth at his Randa home, Ogbomoso.
