Oyo Govt. Tells Social Investment Programme Coordinators to Steer Clear of Extortion

Oyo State Government has warned coordinators of the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programme to steer clear of extortion.

The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Fausat Sanni, gave the warning in Ibadan during a one-day sensitisation training for selected Grievance Redress Management Officers (GRMO) from14 local government areas in the state.

 Alhaja Sanni noted that conflict constantly occurs and could jeopardise the success of the programme if urgent action was not taken.

She said the GRM officers would deal with grievances at grassroots to avoid being escalated or become a stumbling block to the success of the programme within 21 days.

The commissioner noted that GRM would resolve conflicts arising from payment related issues, enrollment of beneficiaries, staff misconduct, programme activities, and overall implementation of the programme.

Earlier, the Head of Unit, State Cash Transfer, Mr Ezekiel Oladipo, said the officers were expected to handle grievances maturely to the success of the programme.

Mr Oladipo, who warned the officers against bribery, urged them to be committed, responsible and diligent in the discharge of their duties.

Federal Government has approved the creation of Grievance Response Management Unit in states to address and manage conflicts that might arise in the course of the programme.

The creation of the GRM units will ensure conflict-free delivery of service between the staff and beneficiaries of the programme.

Covid-19: Palliatives for the indigent almost ready – Makinde

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has said that some commissioners in his cabinet are presently working on palliatives for the indigents and the most vulnerable in the state to reduce the effect of Covid-19.

Governor Makinde who stated this during a phone-in segment of a radio programme in Ibadan said the stimulus package is aimed at alleviating the suffering of the less-privileged in the society in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The governor who noted that the economic stimulus was delayed due to lack of relevant data, disclosed that he has directed those in charge of the package to be transparent and accountable.

Governor Makinde, however, appealed to the resident of Oyo state to support the government in its fight against the coronavirus.

He said markets in Oyo state would be reopened and the dusk to dawn curfew be called off as soon as the government receive a favourable report from the state Covid-19 Task Force.

The commissioners working on the palliatives are state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Alhaja Fausat Sanni, her counterpart in the Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Mrs Funmi Orisadeyi and that of Special Duties, Mr Bayo Lawal.
