Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has reaffirmed the importance of national unity, emphasizing that Nigeria’s indivisibility is non-negotiable.

Speaking at the Special Parade and Wreath Laying Ceremony to mark the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, held at the Arcade Ground, Governor’s Office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the governor called on citizens to join hands with all levels of government to safeguard the nation’s integrity.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the significance of the annual event as a solemn occasion to honour the sacrifices of the nation’s military personnel who laid down their lives to protect Nigeria from internal and external threats.

He expressed optimism about the country’s potential to achieve greatness once again, urging Nigerians to prioritize the commemoration of these heroes in their daily lives.

“It is crucial to ensure that Nigeria remains united and indivisible. This is one of the most meaningful ways to honour the sacrifices of those who fought for our nation,” the governor stated.

Governor Abiodun stressed the need to remember the sacrifices of the fallen heroes beyond the annual celebration on January 15.

The ceremony featured the symbolic release of doves, symbolizing peace, and the laying of wreaths by Governor Abiodun, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, the Chief Judge of Ogun State, Hon. Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, as well as traditional rulers, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, the Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, the Commandant of the 35 Artillery Brigade, representatives from the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, and the widow of one of the fallen heroes.

The event served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces and the collective responsibility of all Nigerians to uphold the unity and peace of the nation.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has vowed to take all necessary steps to eliminate crime in the society.

Governor Oyebanji who made the pledge during the Grand Finale of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, urged officers of the Nigerian military to uphold the national flag with integrity and honour.

Commending the Nigerian military and other security agencies for maintaining peace in the state, the governor cautioned citizens against actions that could foster division among the country’s ethnic groups.

In an interview, the Acting Chairman of the Ekiti State Legion, Colonel Aderotimi Ajayi, expressed gratitude to the Ekiti State government for supporting retired soldiers and the families of fallen heroes.

Colonel Ajayi also encouraged well-off individuals to assist the children and widows of the fallen heroes.

The event included a special prayer for peace, progress, and economic development in Ekiti and Nigeria.

Gun salutes, a two-minute silence and the laying of wreaths honoured the fallen heroes for their selfless service in keeping Nigeria united.

Dignitaries at the 2021 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day in Ogun State want Nigerians to continue to nurture peaceful co-existence and support the military in the effort to enhance the nation.

The special parade and laying of wreath was attended by current and former government functionaries, retired and serving military personnel and families of fallen heroes.
