The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II has called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to waste no time in tackling the challenges confronting the country as a man of action that he is known to be.

This is contained in a statement by his Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare to congratulate the new Nigeria’s President And Commander in Chief Of The Armed Forces.

Ooni Ogunwusi tasked the president to engage capable Nigerian youths who have the capacity to take the country to its rightful position within the committee of nations globally.

The monarch stressed the need for president Bola Tinubu to work on uniting Nigerians by taking policies and steps that give all Nigerians sense of belonging wherever they are.

“Mr President, congratulations from The House of Oduduwa to you and your amiable wife who is now the mother of the nation as you have officially taken the mantle of leadership as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“As we celebrate this remarkable day of your inauguration with you, we wish you monumental success in all the policies of your administration so that Nigeria can become great again and maintain her rightful position not only as truly the giant of Africa but also as a leader within the committee of nations globally.

“We trust that your administration will be marked by good governance characterized by transformational economic growth, adequate security, and progress for all Nigerians both at home and in diaspora.

“We also trust that you will leverage your wealth of experience as a man of progressive action in mobilising resources and managing diverse interests to unify Nigeria across political, ethnic and religious lines”. Ooni said.

The Ooni who doubles as Co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) charged president Tinubu to carry the Nigeria traditional institution along, especially in tackling the security challenges in the country.

“The traditional rulers in this country are the closest to the people as there is nobody in Nigeria who is not a subject of a particular traditional ruler, this is why it is important for the government to empower us with more strategic constitutional roles especially in the area of security management and conflict resolutions.” Ooni said.

In working for Africa, the Ooni urged President Tinubu to partner the progressive African leaders and friends of Africa across the globe like President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio LULA da Silva, who recently hosted the Ooni and his team in Brasilia, Brazil for the unveiling Annual African Traditional Religion Day celebrations.

“As truly the giant of Africa, Nigeria must first of all be great for Nigerians under your watch, and Nigeria must provide progressive leadership of unity and peace for the greatness of Africa under your watch. I have interacted with some African presidents who are truly looking up to Nigeria under your watch as the big brother Africa. This of course dominated our discussions during my meeting with President Williams Ruto at the State House in Nairobi, Kenya two months ago.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, Presidential Campaign Council, PCC in Oyo State has given an assurance that Thursday’s presidential rally in Ibadan will hold as scheduled.

The Director General, Oyo APC PCC, Dr Isiaka Kolawole gave the assurance at a news conference held at the party’s campaign office, Mokola, Ibadan.

Dr Kolawole accused some rival political parties in the state of sponsoring protests over the lingering fuel and naira scarcity in a bid to prevent the APC Presidential rally from holding in Oyo State.

He, however, insisted that no amount of sponsored protests would stop the party and its presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu from holding the rally.

Dr Kolawole said adequate security arrangements had been put in place to forestall break down of law and order before, during and after the presidential rally.

The Oyo APC PCC Director General said the party identifies and sympathizes with Nigerians over the non-availability of naira notes, stressing that the idea of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN to redesign some of the naira notes was good, but the process of implementation was faulty.

It would be recalled that the APC Presidential Rally, earlier scheduled to hold last week, had been rescheduled to hold on Thursday 15th February 2023, at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan.

As Tinubu unveils Action Plan

President Muhammadu Buhari will lead Governors, National Working Committee members and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress to the inauguration of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the party on Friday afternoon at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.

At the event which signals the formal launch of the party’s campaign season, the Presidential Candidate of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima will unveil their Action Plan for the transformation of the country.

The 80-page document, containing a multi-sectoral policy options, is tagged “Renewed Hope 2023 – Action Plan for a Better Nigeria.”

According to the document, the former Lagos State governor will prioritise National Security, Economy, Agriculture, Power, Oil and Gas, Transportation and Education, when elected as President Buhari’s successor next February.

Tinubu also outlines policy options for Healthcare, Digital Economy, Women Empowerment, Judicial Reform, Federalism/Decentralisation of Power and Foreign Policy.

He promises huge investment in Sports Entertainment and Culture, Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship, to expand jobs and opportunities for millions of Nigerian youths.

Tinubu also promises to continue and expand the massive Social Investment Programs of the Buhari administration.

In his foreword to the document, Tinubu says that his plans were conceived after travelling the length and breadth of the country and listening to people from different life strata.

Our nation’s history affirms that our people constitute our most valuable treasure. Whether the hardworking farmer, the industrious market woman, the dynamic young entrepreneur or the hopeful child, Nigerian people rank among the best anywhere. They excel in every aspect of human endeavour when given a fair chance.”

Senator Shettima and I have traversed every part of our beloved nation, listening to the concerns of our fellow citizens. Young and old, poor and rich, educated and uneducated, Christian and Muslim; all have expressed their views and concerns. People do not seek superficial answers to hard questions. Nor do they want the broken, unimaginative, failed promises repackaged and fed to them again. They want true and innovative solutions which address the challenging realities of today.”

Our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) was founded on the premise that the people of our beloved country are entitled to the benefits that only progressive good governance can procure.”

According to the APC Presidential candidate, having listened to the yearnings of the people, he is emboldened to change their stories for good the same way he did in Lagos State as governor for eight years while putting together the best team.

When I was governor of Lagos, my team and I developed institutions and policies that changed the face of the state. It became a safe place for its residents and an engine of prosperity for all those willing to work in pursuit of their economic dreams. What my team and I achieved in Lagos, together we all can achieve for Nigeria. Our objective is to foster a new society based on shared prosperity, tolerance, compassion, and the unwavering commitment to treat each citizen with equal respect and due regard.”

Tinubu notes that total transformation of Nigeria can be achieved, building on the foundation laid by the present APC administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

On security which he affirms to be the “bedrock of a prosperous and democratic society”, Tinubu says his administration will make it a fundamental responsibility to protect the lives and property of its citizens by mobilising the country’s national security, military and law enforcement assets to protect all Nigerians from danger and from the fear of danger.

The current government has made important inroads. When it came into office, the Buhari government met situation in which terrorists had planted their flags and claimed Nigerian territory as their own. The Buhari government eliminated these incursions against our national sovereignty, bringing peace to many areas. Thousands of formerly displaced people have returned home to rebuild their lives.”

Recalling meeting a tough security problem when he assumed office as Governor of Lagos State in 1999, Tinubu reveals the herculean task he surmounted.

When I entered office as governor of Lagos, the state was crime-ridden. Safety was uncertain. The population was fearful. With bold, no-nonsense crime prevention reform and creative institution building, we won back our state. It became a safe and secure place to live and to do business. I shall bring the same determined, problem-solving spirit to solving insecurity at the national level.”

Our administration will be committed to permanently securing the safety, freedom and prosperity of all Nigerians.”

To achieve this, Tinubu promises in his Action Plan to further equip the armed forces with more modern hardware and needed technological support.

He also says police will be reformed to fully take responsibility for internal security.

Police reform will be focused on positioning the institution to better deliver on its primary duties of community policing and maintaining law and order through crime fighting and prevention.”

Police personnel will be freed from extraneous duties such as VIP security and guard duties. VIP Security and provision of security for government buildings, installations and other critical assets will be transferred to The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The NSCDC shall be evaluated and reformed to be better integrated with our internal security apparatus.

On the nation’s economy, the APC Presidential Candidate assures Nigerians that his administration will focus on massive and unprecedented 4th industrial revolution, helping the youth to be transformed from job seekers to job providers.

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with some Christian clerics under the aegis of the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria.

At the meeting, Tinubu disclosed that his choice of a former governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima was not a threat to the Christian community.

He added that his decision was based on competence and not religious considerations, adding that only competence can resolve the political and socio-economic challenges bedevilling the nation.

The APC presidential candidate said he has always been a friend of the Christian community and he should be considered based on his track records, plans and agenda for developing Nigeria.

“How will Nigeria develop? How do we banish hunger? How do we improve the insecurity and how do we eliminate killing one another, and shedding of blood of innocent citizens, that is what we must take to the office and not our religion.

“My intention is clear, not religiosity. My intention is to develop this country, to bring prosperity to our country and I have a better qualification, better track records, better exposure, and better vision than any of my mates.

“When the shortlisted names came, I looked at the characters on the list, their background and everything and here is somebody (Kassim Shetimma) who is so brilliant, so committed, who, during the crisis in Borno protected Christians,” he said.

The bishops, however, said the meeting is not an affirmation they’ll endorse APC’s candidate.

Chairman of Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria, Archbishop John Praise, said, “We are not committed to endorsing anybody, but you should ask your conscience and from what you have heard and from the explanation, he (Tinubu) had given to us to make your own judgement of who will better rule and handle the country.”

However, The closed-door meeting between the Presidential Candidate of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria in Abuja came under scrutiny on Thursday night.

The social media pages of the former governor of Lagos State were bombarded with mixed reactions from a cross-section of Nigerians, especially on Facebook and Twitter, hours after exclusive photographs of his rendezvous with the northern clerics in his Abuja campaign office hit the internet.

The development is coming barely three months after the Christian Association of Nigeria dissociated itself from the presence of some alleged bishops and pastors at the unveiling of the vice presidential candidate of the party, Kashim Shettima, saying they were desperados who went there for themselves.

CAN stated that although Tinubu was free to “hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them”, the effort would only add to their many ropes but would not change the need for fairness and justice.

Similarly, on Tuesday, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, made renewed threats to mobilise the northern Christian electorate to vote against Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 poll.

Dogara had predicted that adopting a Muslim-Muslim ticket was a fruitless political effort that was “doomed to end in spectacular failure.”

The ex-speaker made the statement while delivering his keynote address at a summit tagged ‘Meet The Church,’ organised by the Nigeria National Christian Coalition.

Lawal, on the other hand, vowed that the introduction of a same-faith ticket by the APC was a deliberate plan to further create divisions in the north.

The disgruntled former SGF, who spoke during an interview on Arise Television, declared that he was working with about 40 Christian leaders in the north to ensure that the contentious APC ticket failed.

But in Thursday’s meeting, the APC national leader reportedly explained to the PBFNS delegation led by Archbishop John Praise of Dominion Chapel International Church his reason for selecting Shettima to the northern Christian bishops.

Tinubu stated that his selection of Shettima was not a deliberate attempt to spite the Christian community but a choice he had to make to give Nigerians good governance if he got elected.

He stated, “Earlier today at a lively, productive and amiable meeting with a delegation representing the Pentecostal Bishops Forum of Northern Nigeria, we discussed important issues of national significance as well as my determination to deliver unity, harmony and lasting peace to Nigeria.”

The reactions to his social media posts were instantaneous. While some of his followers and party supporters hailed his action, critics trolled and lampooned him for attempting to pull another stunt on the Christian community.

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fired back at critics who accused his team of hiring street urchins and dressing them as Christian clerics during Wednesday’s unveiling of his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima in Abuja.

In a statement through his campaign organization, Tinubu said the event was open to all, including clergymen.

Accusing the opposition of cashing in on the development to stir unnecessary attacks on APC, Director, Media and Communication of the TInubu Campaign Organization TCO, Bayo Onanuga also described as “unwarranted distractions” the viral pictures and videos of some clergymen and women at the unveiling.

Onanuga, said “the event was an open affair, which allowed members of the public to attend, including the clergymen and some others now being derided by hirelings of the opposition”.

Part of the statement reads;

“They are church leaders who genuinely believe that Nigerians must eschew politics of hatred and religious bigotry and rather embrace politics of peace and nation building.

“We therefore deplore the hysterical twisting of the presence of these men and women in cassocks and the false accusation against our candidates, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Shettima.

“We want to say that those clergymen were not fake, not mechanics or yam sellers as the purveyors of hatred have made Nigerians to believe in the social media. They are not big names in Christendom yet, they are gradually building up their missions.

However, The Christian Association of Nigeria on Wednesday dissociated itself from Bishops who attended the unveiling of the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Kashim Shettima, saying they were desperados who went there for themselves.

The organisation said that although the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was free to “hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them”, that effort would only add to their many ropes but would not change the need for fairness and justice.

The Vice President of CAN (19 Northern States and Abuja) and its chairman in Kaduna State, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said this in an interview with journalists in Abuja.

He said, “The people we saw at the unveiling of Shettima paraded as Bishops are people who did not have enough time to learn how to wear Bishop garments. Take a closer look at their photo and you will see another Nollywood movie.

“CAN wonders why the desperation. First, a story was out claiming to have come from the Chairman of CAN Borno state only to be refuted. Secondly, there was another lie that BAT (Bola Ahmed Tinubu) and his running mate were on their way to meet CAN President one night. A meeting that was not true and was on a night that the CAN President was in Alabama USA attending the Baptist World Alliance Conference of which he is the Vice President.

“Another desperation story was that they met Papa Adeboye which the RCCG later refuted. If Christians are not important why the desperation?

“BAT is free to hire mechanics and other artisans and sew clerical garments for them. An effort that will only add to their many ropes when the political exercise is over but will not change the need for fairness and justice that CAN is calling for.

“CAN appreciate that we are in a democracy, no need to do funny and dubious things just to prove a point because it will in the end bounce back. BAT team should simply do what is right and stop the drama.”

A one-time senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ayo Adeseun has said the 2023 general elections should be focused on personalities and not political parties.

He stated this in a chat with Radio Nigeria in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

Senator Adeseun who said political parties were mere labels under which people hid to commit havoc, atrocities, and send people into penury, submitted that it was time more priority was given to personalities with laudable qualities.

“There was a time in Yorubaland when Afenifere was the inward in politics, all manners of crooks hid under the Afenifere banner to milk the resources of our nation. This 2023 election, we are going to vote for people and not for political party labels. You find some people who are terrible in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, some who are worse in the All Progressives Congress, APC and some who are even much worse in other parties formations. So, we will look at people who have track records and have proven themselves to be people-oriented, willing to serve to help our community to develop,” he said.

Senator Adeseun, while reeling out his plans for the 2023 general elections, pledged to support the APC’s Presidential flag bearer, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Chief Adebayo Adelabu of Accord Party as the governorship candidate in Oyo State.

“For the 2023  general elections, I will be supporting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the APC for two reasons. One is the fact that I am a Yoruba man and I think this time, a Yoruba man ought to be given a shot at it because of his contribution to get President Buhari’s administration into place. I also believe Tinubu has a record of picking those who are gifted and capable and he has shown that over and over again. He was Governor of Lagos State for eight years and he turned the state around to the extent that he ran Lagos state without Federal subvention. That tells you that the man is a genius, He also brought out Fasola and imagine what Fasola did in Lagos. One of the hallmarks of a good leader is the ability to identify quality people and put them into appropriate positions. At the state level, I am absolutely convinced that there are some people whom are not worthy of being allowed to sit at the helms of affairs in our state. Having seen all of the people that have been offering themselves for the leadership at the state level, I am absolutely convinced that Chief Adebayo Adelabu is shoulders and heads above any of those other ones who are competing. He has a track of absolute performance at every level of engagement. Penkelemes has proven himself to be capable. He is an investor who has created employment opportunities for the people  of the state.” Adeseun opined.

On the state of the nation, Senator Adeseun decried the spate of insecurity which he noted had affected the national economy.

While blaming leadership at various levels for the decay on the nation’s fabrics, the former senator described the recent attack on the Kuje Correctional Service as barbaric and a bad omen.

A lot of the blame must be placed on the doorstep of our leadership. By leadership, I am also included. None of us can escape taking responsibility. Just a few days ago, some miscreants went to Kuje Prisons and bombed their way into that facility, releasing hundreds of terrible Boko haram suspects, with some of them being convicts. How do you explain that in a nation such as ours? The information we get is that they came in their hundreds with weapons that outmatched that of our security personnel ,which is a sad commentary on all of us.”

“ How could thugs come in such numbers without anybody seeing them or raising alarm. We can’t say a serious nation should find itself in such a quagmire.”

“The leadership has to be up and doing, even the followership ought to be blamed, a hundred men came on either bus or motorcycle and nobody cared to raise an alarm, something is wrong with us also”, the former senator submitted.

On the way out of the security challenges, Senator Adeseun advocated recruitment of more police officers to meet the needs of the public expressing the view that the country was under-policed.

“Nigeria has a population of about two hundred million, you can’t have a police force of five hundred thousand to police that number, coupled with the fact that some were attached to VIPs while some others are assigned to guard public facilities. Those who are left are around two hundred and fifty thousand, there is the need to increase the personnel components and they must be properly equipped and remunerated to be able to deliver their duties“. He added

Senator Adeseun urged authorities to be holistic in assessing the nation’s situation and put the necessary machineries in place, adding that results may not come immediately.

Asiwaju Tinubu also visited the palaces of the Olubadan of Ibadan and Soun of Ogbomoso where he sympathised with the families of the late monarchs.

He also visited the Randa residence of the former governor, late Adebayo Alao-Akala.

A federal lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller, has debunked the news going viral that he is against the choice of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the presidential candidate in 2023 general elections.

Hon. Peller made this clarification via his social media platforms, where he explained that the report being spread by bloggers is a misinterpretation of what he actually said during an interview he granted last month.

He said:

“My attention has been drawn to the news on blogs quoting me to have said that the APC Leader “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be anointed as President”.

“Sadly, it is a misrepresentation of what I said. To set the record straight, I have nothing against our leader nor his presidential ambition. I have enjoyed a father and son relationship with him for years, and it remains so.

“I commented on the age long political style of forcing candidates down the throat of the citizens, without thinking of the principles of equity, equality and fairness.

“I stated that the rest of the world is leaving Nigeria behind in terms of rapid growth and development.
And only through strong institutions, can we make visible progress in the country, especially in our electioneering process.

“The next general election is a reset period for our dear country. We must get it right! Our collective decision must be based on promoting peace and unity.

“Most importantly, I urge the media practitioners, who are regarded as the fourth estate of the realm, to use their powerful instruments to promote love, peace and unity rather than stir up disunity, disaffection and unnecessary conflicts.”

Liberian President, George Weah, a Professor of International Political Economy at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, Dani Rodrik, and Mohamed Yahaya of the United Nations Development Programme are some of the confirmed speakers at the 12th Annual Bola Tinubu Colloquium.

A statement issued by the organising committee said the event taking place virtually on Monday, 29 March 2021 was to celebrate the birthday of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was a former Lagos State Governor and a national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

According to the statement, this year, the Bola Tinubu Colloquium will focus on peace-building and national cohesion as a tool for growth and prosperity in Nigeria.

“The theme interrogates these issues in the light of contemporary incidents and commentaries in the public space with ethnic and religious dimensions.

“Our objective is to explore the implications of violent conflicts and innovative strategies for sustaining peace in a heterogeneous society with multi-ethnic groups, such as Nigeria,” the organisers said.

Dani Rodrik is the Ford Foundation Professor of International Political Economy at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

He is currently President-Elect of the International Economic Association and Co-Director of Economics for Inclusive Prosperity.

The professor will deliver the keynote address titled: “Where Can Growth Go? The Social Conflict Push.”

He will speak along the line of his thoughts as promoted in his work, “Where did all the Growth Go? External Shocks, Social Conflict, and Growth Collapses.”

Also, President George Weah, will also be speaking on the tenuous nature of rebuilding a country after brutal civil wars, emphasising the importance of national reconciliation, trust-building for the forging of national cohesion and unity well as bringing a country back from the brink.
