Sunshine Stars Football Club of Ondo players and other crew members survived an attack by gunmen yesterday.

The team was reportedly attacked along the Ore-Benin Expressway on their way to trade tackles with Bendel Insurance FC of Benin in a match day 13 encounter.

The team manager and the Ball boy attached to the team were reportedly seriously hit by the gunmen while other players sustained various degrees of injuries.

Speaking in a phone call with sports correspondent Isaac Afolabi, Media Officer Sunshine Stars FC Micheal Akintunde described the attack as a shock and a direct attack on the Akure-based team.

He however disclosed that the victims were currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.

A 40-Year-old man has been shot dead at his residence in Benin city Edo state by some suspected unknown gunmen believed to be assassins.

The assailants killed the deceased, identified as Mr Odion Ehiorobo, in his house around Peanut Road on Sapele Road in Benin city., Edo state.

The gunman scaled the fence into the compound and gained access into the apartment by forcing the door open

An eleven-year-old boy has been arrested by the police in Edo State for allegedly joining the gang of hoodlums that attacked Oba Market Police Station in Benin City where guns and police uniforms were carted away.

The young boy was said to have worn the uniform of a police sergeant moment after the police station’s attack at Evbuotubu area of Benin City.  

The young culprit allegedly declared himself as the Inspector General of Police and was bragging all about in Benin metropolis with the police uniforms while most of his peers were hailing and clapping for him.

 He was subsequently arrested and would be arraigned in a juvenile court soon.

Five AK 47 rifles belonging to the Nigerian Police that were carted away during the attack of some police stations by #ENDSARS protesters in Benin City have been recovered by the police in Edo.

Crime correspondent Festus Alenkhe reports that the police rifles were recovered by an undercover police men who are now in most parts of Benin City.

The policemen are currently searching for the various identified  attackers of their facilities and those who escaped from Oko and Benin Sapele road correctional facilities (Prisons).

10 of the inmates who escaped from the prisons have been rearrested by the police. Out of the 10, four of them had gone to snatch a car from its owner at gun point along TV road in Benin City.

One of them went to Ukhumwun community in Ugbowo,Benin city where he allegedly killed a middle age man who came to give evidence against him in court.

Seventeen persons have been arraigned in Criminal Court One in Benin city by men of the Edo State Command of the Nigeria Police for allegedly attacking some personnel who were on lawful duties in Benin city.

Police said the operatives, who were on a routine patrol around the Aduwawa end of the Benin-Auchi road in Benin city on 24 September, 2020 accosted a Toyota car whose occupants were suspected.

The car was pulled over for routine search. Some items suspected to be canabis popularly called “Indian Hemp” were recovered, a situation which forced the policemen to embark on a thorough search.

As the car and the occupants were to be taking to the State Police headquarters for further Investigation, one of the suspects then put a call across to some persons suspected to be members of a secret cult group.

The alleged cult members who arrived in a commando style, attacked the policemen using various hard objects. The calmness of the policemen saved the day ås they refused to use their firearms despite repeated attempts to snatch their guns.

But the police were quick to arrest a leader of the attackers who then took the policemen to arrest other members of the gang. They were all subsequently charged to a high court in Benin city.

The trial Judge , Hon. Justice Efe Ikpomwonba however granted the accused persons bail and adjourn the case to 15 October, 2020.

Contacted, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer SP Chidi Nwabuzor said, the police legal Department would diligently ensure the prosecution of the 17 accused persons.

He urged the police operatives in the State to go about their lawful duties by ensuring that Edo State remain safe at all times.
