Research and proper scripting have been identified as key factors needed for quality presentation by media professionals.

Zonal Director Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan, Mrs Bolatito Joseph stated this at a workshop organized by Bowen Radio Station of Bowen University Osun State to train presenters on how to improve on the job.

Mrs Joseph identified interpersonal skills as the requirement for presenters before going on air so as not to prevent unnecessary embarrassment.

The Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, who was represented by Director, Quality Assurance, a professor of English, Grace Olutayo pointed out that creativity in presentation adds colour when used by on-air personalities.

Earlier, Head Directorate of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Bowen University Mr Toba Daramola said the programme was put together as a way of training the new generation of programme presenters on the rudiment of broadcasting.

Chairman on the occasion, who is also an ace broadcaster, Mr Feyi Ogunduyile urged journalists to be alert and well equipped, especially as the 2023 general elections approach.

The Vice-Chancellor of BOWEN University, Iwo, Osun State, Professor Joshua Ogunwole says healthy competition among students of higher institutions in the state will promote excellence and further build the capacity of young people.

Professor Ogunwole stated this while receiving a 400 level medical student of the University, Mr. Victor Adeyemo, who emerged the overall winner of the 2021 Nigeria Independence Anniversary Essay competition sponsored by the Osun State government.

Presenting the winner to the University community at a reception held at the Timothy Olagbemiro Library on the school campus, the Vice-Chancellor said the emergence of Victor Adeyemo as the overall winner in the state-sponsored essay competition was another accomplishment of the vision of the institution to produce solution providers who would solve the inevitable challenges facing mankind.

Professor Ogunwole added that the university, a faith-based institution, remains committed to using 21st Century technology-driven and Holy Spirit-inspired approaches to building young persons who would positively influence society.

The BOWEN VC appreciated Governor Gboyega Oyetola for promoting excellence in education, through such healthy competition to motivate young people in attaining breakthroughs through hard work in academics and decent living, without indulging in cheating and other social vices.

He pledged the institution’s support for such initiatives by the Osun State government which he maintained would bring the best out of students and promote healthy competition among higher citadels of learning in the state, both public and private.

Announcing a cash donation of one hundred and fifty thousand naira to the overall winner, Professor Ogunwole described Victor Adeyemo as a worthy ambassador who deserved to be celebrated.

He charged other students to be serious with their academics and in other capacities that could add value to them and society, saying such effort would never go unappreciated.

Responding, the overall winner of the Osun 2021 Independence Essay Competition, Mr. Victor Adeyemo said he initially avoided participation due to his examination, but for the encouragement of the university authorities.

Mr. Adeyemo who was full of appreciation to the Osun State Government, the school’s Vice-Chancellor and management remarked that BOWEN University had inculcated in him the virtues of integrity, hard work, and diligence.

The high point of the event was the decoration of the winner with the University’s pin and the presentation of gift items by the management.

Osun State Governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola says building a sustainably prosperous state requires strategic investment in young people in a manner that prepares them for the reality of the keenly competitive global knowledge economy.

He stated this at the Grand Finale of the second edition of the “Osun Independence Essay Competition”, organized by the Osun State Government to commemorate the 61st Independence Anniversary of the country.

Mr. Oyetola described the concern as the motivation behind organising the Independence Day Essay Competition by the Osun State Government.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr. Benedict Alabi, the governor charged young persons to always be competition-ready and be imaginative as active producers of relevant ideas for nation-building.

Governor Oyetola maintained that the goal of a functional education was the deliberate training of the mind to acquire the requisite capacity to provide workable solutions to societal challenges.

In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Regional Integration and Special Duties, Mr. Lekan Badmus appreciated the state governor for approving the 2021 Osun State Essay Competition among students of secondary and tertiary schools as part of the activities lined up to mark the 61st year of Independence of Nigeria.

Mr. Badmus told the gathering that the essay committee comprised of interdisciplinary professionals received 700 entries of students from 34 schools of both private and public higher institutions across the country. 

He explained that the competition was a paradigm shift from the traditional Independence March-Past to promote the reading and writing culture among students which is capable of encouraging healthy rivalry as well as intellectual competition in secondary and tertiary institutions. 

In a keynote address, the Chairman of the event, the former Chief of Policy and Plans of the Nigerian Army, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun (rtd), gave kudos to the Osun State government for the initiative in a world where negative activities had become the norm.

General Adeosun charged participants and the teeming youth population of the state not to relent in their efforts in contributing their quota to the development of the society, adding that education, security, and other developmental needs of the nation, are a collective responsibility.

He recommended the teaching of family values and ideals as key to rebuilding the weak security architecture of the nation, maintaining that security is not only a top-down affair but also has a bottom-up dimension that requires citizens’ vigilance and responsibility.

Miss Abisola Faith Adegboyega from Fakunle Comprehensive High School, Osogbo, emerged as the winner in the secondary school category, while Mr. Victor Ayodeji Adeyemo, a medical student from Bowen University won the tertiary institution category.

The winners for the tertiary category, aside from cash prizes, also went home with a Toyota Corolla car.

The Vice-Chancellor, Bowen University, Iwo, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, has advocated improved synergy among public and private universities in Nigeria to record breakthroughs in research. 

He maintained that the best way to get a good result in research is to encourage those that have ideas work together. 

Professor Ogunwole spoke on the university Campus in Iwo, while addressing members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Osun state. 

The don stressed that Nigeria must create a research-friendly structure and imbibe the culture of celebrating research breakthroughs and researchers, while putting such output into use on a national level.

Speaking on contemporary teaching and learning activities in Nigeria Higher Institutions, he pointed out that the societal reality of the present generation had changed the nature of parenting and made children independent learners, hence school curriculum should be designed in such a way that students could learn independently with less pressure of supervision.

The Bowen University Vice Chancellor who said the institution pioneered online classes in Nigeria, called on education planners in the country to design a framework for e-learning to make it part of the country’s educational system.

Responding to questions on national issues, Professor Ogunwale who berated the sharp divisions among Nigerians, noted that the development was a strange phenomenon, whose root causes must be honestly investigated and dealt with, saying that all ethnic groups in Nigeria need one another.

Students have been challenged to be up and doing in their studies to make them employers of labour in the future.

Vice Chancellor, Bowen University, Professor Joshua Ogunwole made the call at the 14th convocation of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State.

Professor Ogunwole who noted that fifty three students out of overall eight hundred and sixty-eight students bagged first class in various disciplines said, the feat was achievable through the schools discipline and dedication of their students to their academics.

In a convocation lecture, president, African Development Bank, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina stressed the need for the nation to focus more on entrepreneurial education for enhanced national economy.

The convocation ceremony also featured commissioning of hostel facility.

Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, is to kick start deployment of a super
dual equatorial radar network system to aid the study of atmospheric
physics and monitor equator.

Vice Chancellor Bowen University, Professor Joshua Ogunwole who
disclosed this at the press conference for the 14th convocation of the
institution said the ten million U.S dollars project, when flagged
off would be the first in Africa.

The Vice Chancellor while explaining that Bowen University had established collaboration with the University of Virginia, United States of America and National Space Research and Development Agency on the project, hinted that the partnership would further enhance research in space science across the world.

Professor Ogunwole explained that the program would help in solving hitches associated with telephone network across the country.

Professor Ogunwole noted that Bowen University had changed its business model from the faculty model to modified collegiate system  to ensure that
learning was accessible to students.

The Vice Chancellor while highlighting activities of the 14th convocation which will be climax on Saturday said an honour of Doctor of Entrepreneurship would be conferred on the president of African Development Bank, AfDB, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina.
