Federal Government has given a nod to three more foreign airlines to resume flights into Nigeria.

The Airlines are Air France, KLM and Lufthansa German Airline.

Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika who disclosed this today says the airlines can resume flight services between Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt to Lagos.

The three airlines had earlier been ban from coming into Nigeria at the reopening of the Nigerian Airspace to international operations as Nigerians were not allowed access into these countries due to the spike then of the Covid-19.

Approval has also been given Qatar airways to start operations into the Abuja Airport.

In granting the approvals, Senator Sirika emphasised the need for airlines operating in the country to employ international best practices in handling Nigerian passengers, as government will not tolerate any form of maltreatment of its citizens by any airline.

Senator Sirika also announced that the Ministry is working with the Ministry of Health, CACOVID and the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 to open Kano, Port-Harcourt and possibly Enugu airports before the end of the year.

The International Airports that are yet to be cleared to resume operations are Port Harcourt Airport, Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport and  Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu.

According to the Aviation Minister, all hands are on deck to ensure that all logistic and policy necessities will soon be in place in order to address the difficulties encountered by international travellers, especially with the impending yuletide season.

He expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of Aviation stakeholders in ensuring the smooth reopening of the nation’s airspace.

The organized private sector under the umbrella of Coalition against COVID-19 in Nigeria, CACOVID has donated mobile x-ray machine, portable ultrasound, oxygen concentrator and other essential medical equipment to Oyo state government for smooth take off of the coronavirus isolation and treatment center in Saki.

Donating the items, the Group Head, South West, Public Sector Group, Dr. Timothy Arowogun, shortly after the delivery of the medical equipment at Jericho specialist hospital, Ibadan said the gesture was part of private sector contribution towards eliminating COVID-19 in the state.

Dr. Arowogun noted that the equipment would be transferred to infectious disease center in Saki, which is currently undergoing a total renovation.

Dr, Arowogun who said that the group would also donate food items to the state government to give to vulnerable group as palliatives, urged the public to take to precautions against the virus.

Speaking on behalf of Oyo state COVID-19 Task Force, Professor Temitope Alonge appreciated the body, stressing that the equipment were key components required for proper management of patients in a severe isolation and treatment center.

Other equipment donated by CACOVID includes nebulizer, stretcher, apron, biosafety cabinet, kidney disk baby cot, amongst others.
