Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has eulogised the former governor of the state, late Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala for his contributions to the development of the state.

Governor Makinde spoke through his deputy, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan at the House of Chiefs, Parliament Building, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan during the Lying-In-State in honour of the deceased.

He lauded the contributions of late Alao-Akala to the development of the state and the political arena.

Governor Makinde also stated that the state government would continue to support the family he left behind especially at this trying period.

In a personal remark, the Deputy Governor, Engineer Olaniyan while describing late Alao-Akala as a person with a large heart said he ruled the state with absolute fear of God and served the state meritoriously to the best of his capacity. 

“One of the unique attributes of him is that he kept with every agreement, his great attributes indeed, he never shifted goal post when the game has started,” he stated.

Also, the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Mr Adebo Ogundoyin described the late Alao-Akala as a thoroughbred politician, a team leader, a community man, and a grassroots mobilizer in all ramifications.

He said” Our late governor was no doubt a great leader. His benevolence, love for the people coupled with his all-inclusive and encompassing political ideology gave him large followership and undoubtedly made him one of the most accessible, approachable and celebrated political leaders in Oyo State”.

“Late Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala unequivocally etched his name in gold and made indelible marks as the Governor of Oyo State between 2007 and 2011, he was the people’s Governor and Oyato Governor,” He said.

Top government functionaries in Oyo State, friends, families and political associates across party lines attended the lying-in-state organized by the government of Oyo state.

As Nigerians mourn the demise of a former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, Alhaji Lam Adesina have described the incident as a great loss to many people.

The Lam-Adesina family in a statement released by the eldest son of the former governor of Oyo State, Dr Ayobami Wasiu Lam-Adesina, indicates that the sudden death of the political guru has created a great vacuum in the political history of the state and Nigeria as a whole.

The statement describes Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala as a great man that goes to any length to ensure everyone around him smiles.

The statement further expresses the family’s condolences to the people of Oyo State and Nigeria. 

The Lam-Adesina family also prays to Almighty God to grant the deceased a peaceful rest.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has described the death of a former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, as a great loss to his family, the people of Oyo State, particularly sons and daughters of Ogbomoso and Nigeria as a whole.

Governor Sanwo-Olu also commiserated with Oyo State Governor, Mr Seyi Makinde, as well as leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, both at the state and national level over the demise of the party’s apex leader in Oyo State.

In a statement, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that Otunba Alao-Akala’s shocking demise had opened a deep sore in the hearts of the people of Oyo State and Nigerians, who looked up to him as a rallying point and a political stabilizer.

The Governor also sympathized with the Alao-Akala’s family and urged them to take heart, noting that the former Governor’s service to the people of Ogbomoso, Oyo State and Nigeria as a whole would remain his enduring legacy.

He said: “On behalf of the government and people of Lagos, I commiserate with my brother, the Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, sons and daughters of Ogbomoso, people of Oyo State, the deceased family, friends and political associates on the death of Otunba Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala.

“The passage of Otunba Alao-Akala hurts me because of the critical role he is playing in Oyo APC before his demise. My heart was filled with grief when I was informed about his death.

“Otunba Alao-Akala was more than a politician. He was a man of many parts, whose managerial skills and experience are required at this critical period in our national life, especially in our party, APC ahead of the 2023 general elections.

“He served Oyo State passionately first as a Deputy Governor and later as Governor. He did his best in contributing his quota to the growth and development of Ogbomoso as council chairman as well as Oyo State as a Governor. He also made his mark in the Nigerian Police where he retired as Assistant Commissioner of Police in 1995 before venturing into politics.”

“I pray that Almighty God be pleased with the soul of Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala and grant the family and the people of Ogbomoso and Oyo State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.” Omolara Omosanya

The Osi Basorun of Ibadanland and former Commissioner of Health in Oyo State, Dr Azeez Adeduntan has mourned the death of former Oyo State governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala. 

In a condolence message in Ibadan, Dr Adeduntan commiserated with the family of the deceased,  indigenes of Ogbomoso land and people of Oyo State over the demise of the great icon.

Oyo State 2023 Governorship hopeful lauded the giant stride of Chief Alao-Akala o the development of Oyo State, All Progressives Congress, APC and Nigeria in general. 

“I commiserate with the family of the former governor, who served the state, our party, All Progressives Congress, APC and the nation with steadfastness and consistency in his political views, and worked assiduously for the progress of the party”. “As the APC chieftain bowed out, he left the world at a crucial moment when the party and the country needed his counsel to heal and grow, adding that his absence will be sorely felt by all associates, particularly in the APC.”

The international cardiovascular surgeon prayed to the Almighty God to comfort the family of the former governor and grant him a peaceful rest.

Dr Adeduntan emphasized that power, life and death belong to Almighty God urging people, especially politicians to factor death into the equation of their daily lives. 

“We came empty-handed and we will leave empty-handed. Amassing dubious wealth and evil deals are worthless for all of us without exceptions”.
