The former governor of Osun State and Ex-National Chairman, All Progressives Congress, Chief Adebisi Akande has advocated the development of intensive science-based technology in Nigeria’s educational institutions towards improving the nation’s economy.

Chief Akande made the call shortly after receiving Honourary doctorate degree award in Public Administration conferred on him by Ekiti State University, Ado -Ekiti alongside the speaker, Osun state House of Assembly, Mr Timothy Owoeye who was also conferred with an award of recognition.

The elder statesman who is also Asiwaju of Ila Orangun submitted that the curriculum of the country’s learning institutions should be designed in a way that would provide employment opportunities for the undergraduates and as well as make them self-reliant.

The Asiwaju of Ila Orangun pointed out that the lack of science-based technology could not guarantee abundance and the needed development.

In a remark, the Vice-Chancellor, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, Professor Edward Olanipekun said the award was in recognition of their outstanding and unique contributions to society, Osun state and the Nation as a whole.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola was represented at the event by his Deputy, Mr Benedict Alabi, while the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Wole Oyebamiji and other State Executive members graced the convocation and conferment of the award ceremony.

The first interim chairman of the All Progressive Congress, Chief Adebisi Akande says the membership re-validation exercise of the party is a waste of meagerS resources of APC.

Speaking in his ward at his Ila-Orangun country home, Osun State where he re-validated his membership of the All Progressive Congress, Chief Akande said that exercise was unnecessary.

He argued that since no population census was repeated within less than a decade and voters not re-registered at every election, the present APC membership registration within less than a decade after the original register was an indefensible development.

The APC leader noted that the party, having a well-computerized register for an average of 100 leaders of similar ideological orientation per each of the more than 120000 polling units across Nigeria, might be lacking comprehension and matrix of the modern-day technology.

The former governor also described the idea of appointing a caretaker committee to lead a political party as another abnormality.

The former APC chairman advised Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker Executive Committee of the ruling party to resist the temptation of staying longer in office than necessary.

Chief Akande’s revalidation exercise followed that of President Muhammadu Buhari done last week, as the second member of the party in Nigeria and first in the Southwest to be so revalidated.

Chief Akande expressed gratitude to the leadership of APC for their choice to do the revalidation exercise for him after President Muhammadu Buhari.

In the address, the Osun State Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola said the exercise was not about faction, but the need to revalidate and register new members.

In an interview with newsmen, the Southwest Chairman of APC Registration Committee, Senator Shuaibu Lawali, explained that the advantage of registration of members in any political party was to have a credible membership register, saying, membership registration is the most valuable asset of a political party.

Subsequently, the Southwest Registration Committee followed Governor Adegboyega Oyetola to his hometown, Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area for his membership revalidation.
