Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has described the death of a former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Christopher Alao-Akala, as a rude shock.

This is contained in a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ismail Omipidan.

Governor Oyetola said he was pained and saddened by the sudden demise of the Oyo political leader and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

He said Alao-Akala’s death was a personal loss because the deceased was “a good friend of Osun State who was always ready to identify with his government and celebrate its humble accomplishments and achievements.”

He recalled the laudable role Otunba Alao-Akala played during the resolution of the age-long crisis between Oyo and Osun states over the joint ownership of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, and gracing the state’s 30th-anniversary banquet and awards last year.

The governor commiserated with his Oyo State counterpart, Engineer Seyi Makinde, over the demise of his predecessor.

He also condoled with Chief Akala’s family, his political associates, government and people of Oyo State over the unfortunate incident.

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has assented to the bill banning the practice of open grazing in the state.

This was confirmed by the Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to the Governor, Mr. Ismail Omipidan while addressing journalists in his office.

Mr. Omipidan said government had notified the security agencies that would enforce the law in every part of the state, hence it is a crime to practice open grazing in Osun state.

He noted that Osun State was one of the most peaceful states in the country, with fewer challenges of herders invading people’s farm to destroy the crop or attacking farmers because there was in place Committee on Peaceful Co-Existence between Fulani/Bororo and Crop Farmers to foster peace between these communities.

The governor’s spokesperson said before enacting the law, government had summoned stakeholder meeting to deliberate on the matter and had enlightened the herders in the state on the benefit of embracing ranching system.

Radio Nigeria recalls that the Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, had on August 12th, 2021 passed the bill to regulate animal grazing and establishments of cattle ranches and other related matters.

Oyo State governments says there is no truth in the rumours going round that the Governor Seyi Makinde’s convoy was involved in the accident that led to the death of a girl in Ogbomoso during the local government election campaign in Ogbomoso.

Chief Press Secretary, CPS to the governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa who expressed the governor’s condolence to the family of the deceased child, said contrary to the unverified news story alleging the killing of the child by a vehicle in the convoy of the Oyo State governor, the girl was killed by a Toyota Matrix Car.

According to the governor’s aide, the vehicle was said to have lost control after its front tyres burst while in motion, close to the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally.

The CPS said the governor’s convoy had arrived at the Oja-gbo Town Hall venue of the rally, with the governor and his entourage settled in, adding that it was while the programme was ongoing that some residents stormed the venue of the event with the corpse of the child.

He maintained that it is common knowledge that Toyota Matrix vehicles are not part of any governor’s convoy in Nigeria.

The statement enjoins the people of Ogbomoso to remain calm and rest assured that the government would get to the root of this matter.

The governor’s aide warned against false and sensational journalism, stating that though Governor Makinde commiserated with the family of the deceased, because he values all lives and would never want any life lost under any circumstance, negative elements in the society should not smear him with falsehood over the death of the child.

The Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, has declared that the state is not about to deviate from the provisions of its anti-open grazing law contrary to insinuations in a section of the media.

A statement by Mr Adisa says a section of Nigerians misinterpreted Governor Makinde’s submission on the implementation of the National Livestock Transformation Plan, NLTP, in the state.

According to him, the governor only announced the desire to implement aspects of the NLTP that are compliant with the anti-open grazing law of the state assented on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

He said: “For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Makinde’s reference to Oyo State’s desire to implement the NLTP refers mainly to aspects of the plan that are compliant with the anti-open grazing law of the State.

“Section 6(1-7) of the law provides the processes by which a livestock owner shall secure land for a ranch, while sections 7(1-4) stipulates the approval process by which a herder or livestock owner can secure a permit to operate the ranch.”

“The law stipulates that a livestock owner shall apply in writing to the landowner or the family in possession of the land meant for ranching; the family shall forward the application to the Ministry of Agriculture, which will forward the same to the Ministry of Environment to conduct Environmental Impact Assessment.”

“A report of the EIA will be forwarded to the Governor, who may grant the approval if he (finds) the report suitable.”

“The Oyo State’s anti-open grazing provides punishments for open grazing and child herding, while it also provides that ranch owners must mandatorily fence their ranches.”

Mr Adisa added that Governor Makinde had while hosting his Kwara State counterpart, Governor Abdulrasaq Abdulrahman, made it clear that the Oyo State Government would only take advantage of “lateral learnings” in the livestock programme being implemented in Kwara State with a view to collaborating on security and the economic aspects. The Chief Press Secretary, CPS, to Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Mr Taiwo Adisa has warned opposition elements in the state to stop playing politics with the insecurity situation in Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun areas of the state.

A statement by the governor’s aide says that most of the comments attributed to opposition elements on the security situation in the state missed the point due to pettiness, contempt and clear attempt to play to the gallery.

According to him, if opposition elements were true lovers of the state, they should have used the occasion to demonstrate patriotism by empathising with the people of the state and coming up with their own ideas on how to address the situation.

Mr Adisa said Governor Makinde had, at the height of the insecurity in Ibarapa, deployed Operation Burst, a state-backed security outfit comprising the Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Police to Ibarapa in large numbers.

The governor had also caused to be deployed, men and officers of MOPOL 72, located strategically in Ago-Are in Oke-Ogun axis.

He added that the government followed-up that deployment with the mass deployment of the men of the Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, to Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun axes to quench the rising insecurity.

Mr Adisa maintained that the mass deployment of security operatives to the area had begun to yield positive results in the last few weeks, stating that on January 9, the Amotekun Corps worked with Vigilante Group of Nigeria, local hunters, and Miyetti Allah Vigilantes to comb forests straddling four local governments in Ibarapa and Iwajowa Local Government Areas of Oke-Ogun.

“For the avoidance of doubt, before those fanning the embers of ethnic crisis and their Hosanna crowd went to town with their showmanship gimmicks, the government had made serious efforts to tame the insecurity situation in Ibarapa.”

“Apart from initiating several peace meetings between Yoruba and Fulani residents of the axes, the government took steps to deploy a heavy security presence to Ibarapa and at a point, even backed a community-based effort to rid the forests of kidnappers and bandits.”

“It would be recalled that the government had backed a similar approach in Kisi, Igbeti and Igboho axes of the state and was able to achieve a great success without necessarily making noise in the media about it.”

Efforts by the Oyo State government to contain and control the COVID-19 pandemic from spreading in the state has received major boosts as well-meaning individuals from within and outside the state joined the fight against the virus through financial donations.

This followed the setting up accounts named Oyo State COVID-19 Endowment Fund in three banks.

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa notes that the government believes that the setting up of the accounts would allow members of the public interested in supporting the efforts of the Oyo State government to readily make donations.

According to the statement, the state’s Commissioner for Finance, Mr Akinola Ojo, gave the nod for the operation of the accounts, which will remain the only avenue by which financial contributions can be made to the state.

The statement also indicated that those seeking to support the state with material donations could make further enquiries by calling 07055522222 and 09041474990.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Lateef Fagbemi and the chairman of the Ilaji Hotels and Sports Resort, Chief Dotun Sanusi, who kickstarted the donations gave 10 million and 5 million Naira respectively.

The Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, says that the mandate of the people of Oyo State given to him through the March 9 governorship election remains intact following the ruling of the Court of Appeal in Ibadan.

A statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, declares that the mandate given to Governor Makinde by the people of Oyo State cannot be taken through the backdoor.

According to the statement, Governor Makinde said there was no ambiguity as to the state of things in our pacesetter state as far as the election of March 9, 2019, is concerned maintaining that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the election.

The statement notes that the victory was reaffirmed by a ruling of the Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting in Ibadan, the state capital.

The statement states that the Court refused to nullify the election, it refused to order a fresh election and it also refused to order the retrial of the petition.

“With the above being the reality of the outcome of the Appeal Court ruling, the election of Engineer Seyi Makinde as the Governor of Oyo State has just been reaffirmed.

There is nothing in the Appeal Court’s ruling that affects the returns made by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and there is nothing that tampers with the mandate freely given to Engineer Seyi Makinde by the people of Oyo State.”

Governor Makinde urged the good people of Oyo State to remain calm and refuse to be provoked by agents of disruption who are seeking to upturn the truth, which remains constant against all odds.

Governor Makinde insisted that positive governance and unprecedented development would continue to be the portion of the people of Oyo state through his tenure.
