The Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare has visited the Indoor Sports Hall of the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba to cheer athletes who are currently participating in the table tennis events of the National Sports Festival, NSF, Delta 2022.

The minister was among the fans and para-athletes, expressing his excitement at seeing the level at which the players were exhibiting their talents in Table Tennis.

While speaking to newsmen, Mr Dare said he never hid his undying passion for the Paralympians knowing fully well that they had won so many laurels for the country and there was no better way to motivate them than to be seen in their midst.

The minister watched the games between Ogun and Kwara (female doubles), Nasarawa and Ondo (female), Delta and Kwara(male) and a number of other Table Tennis games.

As the National Sports Festival, NSF, tagged Delta 2022, enters “Day 3”, Oyo State athletes have so far won a total of eight medals in Taekwondo, Cycling, and Para-Powerlifting and expectations are high for more medals across the game centres.

The state contingent had a brilliant start with two Silver medals in a cycling event before the official opening ceremony.

In Cycling (mixed relay event), Durogbade Adejoke, Yekeen Tawakalit, Alabi Yemisi, Ibrahim Ramat, Ajibade Quadri, Adeyemi Oduayo and Shofolahan Abiodun all settled for a silver medal.

Also in a cycling team event, Team Oyo led by Durogbade Adejoke alongside her teammates, Yekeen Tawakalit, Ibrahim Ramat and Ajibade Quadri all grabbed a Silver medal.

In Cycling, (1000m sprint), Durogbade Adejoke and Yekeen Tawakalit (1000m/5000m) both won silver and bronze medals respectively.

Meanwhile, the quartet of Fatima Kazeem, Halimotu Hussein, Rashidat Yussuf and Sadia Akeem won a silver medal in the Table Tennis female team event while their male counterpart lost to Team Edo.

Team Oyo camp came alive this morning after Haruna Akamsoko was declared winner in Taekwondo.

Team Oyo in Para-Powerlifting saw Dauda Ibrahim passing his first three stages, 160kg, 165kg and 168kg and was announced to have won Silver behind Team Delta.

Governor Oyoof Oyo state has predicted that Team Oyo will win one hundred gold medals at the next national Sports Festival in Delta state.

Governor Makinde made this known in Ibadan at the closing ceremony of Oyo state Junior Golf Clinic.

The Governor expressed joy at the sixth position of Team Oyo at the just concluded sports festival in Edo State.

He said the contractor handling the swimming pool at Lekan Salami stadium, Adamasingba, had been directed to construct an Olympic standard pool, to enable Oyo state Swimmers to compete favourably at the next sports festival.

Governor Makinde assured that the state would continue to organise sports programmes to discover talents, adding that thirty percent slots would be given to less privileged children in subsequent editions.

Earlier, the state commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Seun Fakorede had assured of more sports programmes to engage the teeming youths in the state.

The organizer of the Golf Clinic, who is also the Special Assistant on Sports to Governor Seyi Makinde, Mr. Tobi Oyewumi said the Golf Clinic was held to broaden the horizon of young talents and discover new ones.

Winners in various categories at the one week programme went home with prizes.
