The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr Oluwadare Kehinde has urged athletes representing Ogun State at the ongoing National Sport Festival in Edo state to strive for excellence in the competition which the state is known for.

Dr Kehinde gave the charge during his visit to the Camp of the Ogun State Contingents at the Aminu Kano Hall of the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State.

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports reminded the athletes that the present administration had sponsor them to the Festival in spite of the economy of the State and other matters demanding for Government’s attention.

Dr Kehinde who pointed out that winning laurels for the state was the only way to reciprocate the government’s gesture announced that there would be rewards and encouragement for athletes to thrive for medals in their various sporting activities.

He noted that government had released fund to cater for their welfare during the festival and that all inadequacies currently being experienced would be improved upon.

While appreciating the Commissioner for the Visit, the Paralympic Athletes appealed to the State Government to look into the issues of their Contracts noting that it would motivate them.

The Delta State Sports Commission has directed athletes and officials of Team Delta to undergo COVID-19 vaccination, ahead of the forthcoming Edo 2021, National Sports Festival, NSF.


The Director General of Delta State Sports Commission, Mr. Chris Anazia, made this known in Asaba, while addressing participants at the COVID-19 Vaccination Point at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in the state capital.


Mr. Anazia remarked that the ongoing vaccination campaign was in line with the federal government COVID-19 protocol, saying it was essential for athletes and coaches representing Delta state at the games to key into the safety guidelines.


Some of the participating athletes reacted to the vaccination campaign after taking their first jab of the injection, by expressing their appreciation to government for taking their safety serious.


Our correspondent reports that the Stephen Keshi Stadium was a beehive of activities by athletes in preparation for the festivities in Benin City next month.
