The Acting Customs Area Controller, Ogun I Area Command, Mr Oladapo Afeni, has extended Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslim faithful and urged citizens, especially those in border communities, to support security agencies in safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

In a message marking the celebration, Mr Afeni described Eid-el-Fitr as a time for national reflection following the completion of Ramadan, a period marked by fasting, prayers, self-discipline, and spiritual renewal.

He noted that the values of sacrifice, compassion, tolerance, and generosity promoted during Ramadan are essential for strengthening national unity and fostering peaceful coexistence.

The Acting Comptroller emphasized the need for continued vigilance and public cooperation to prevent the illegal movement of arms and other contraband across the nation’s borders.

He stressed that national security is a shared responsibility, calling for sustained collaboration between security agencies and residents of border communities to enhance surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Mr Afeni also prayed that the Eid celebration would usher in renewed hope, good health, and prosperity for Nigerians, urging citizens to remain committed to peace, stability, and national development.

The Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdulganiyy Agbotomokekere, has urged Muslims to sustain the good deeds and virtues practiced during the holy month of Ramadan.

Delivering his Eid-el-Fitr sermon at the Ibadan Central Eid prayer ground, Agodi, the cleric called on the faithful to continue to uphold righteousness and promote peaceful coexistence, irrespective of religious differences.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere emphasized the need for unity among residents, noting that harmony and mutual understanding remain essential for societal progress.

Also speaking after the Eid prayer, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, urged Muslims to imbibe humility, kindness, and forgiveness to sustain the values of sacrifice, discipline, and compassion learned during Ramadan.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Bayo Lawal, the governor encouraged Muslim faithful to internalize the lessons of Ramadan and reflect them in their daily lives.

Governor Makinde noted that the past year had witnessed significant development across the state, particularly in the areas of stability, unity, and peace, and appreciated residents for their continued peaceful coexistence.

The Ayedero of Yorubaland, Chief Shina Peller, has called for national rebirth, describing Nigeria as being at a pivotal point where the collective character of its citizens will shape the nation’s future.

In his Eid-el-Fitr message to the Muslim Ummah and the general public, Chief Peller described the 2026 Ramadan as a period of deep spiritual reflection, discipline, and renewed commitment to faith and humanity.

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has congratulated Muslim faithful in the state on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke urged Muslims to uphold the values of faith, unity, and compassion.

He commended the faithful for their devotion and discipline during the fasting period, describing Ramadan as a season that reflects not only abstinence but also commitment to social justice, charity, and community service.

Highlighting the significance of the holy month, Governor Adeleke encouraged Muslims to sustain its lessons beyond Ramadan and continue to promote peace and social cohesion across communities.

The governor assured the Muslim community of his administration’s commitment to protecting their rights, supporting religious institutions, and ensuring inclusive governance and development.

As the 2026 Ramadan season ends, Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has felicitated Muslims as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitr in Oyo State and across Nigeria.

Governor Makinde commended the faithful for their sacrifice, perseverance, and devotion throughout the 30-day fasting period.

He urged Muslims to use the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr to seek God’s guidance and offer prayers for the leadership of Oyo State and the country at large.

The governor also called on residents to remain vigilant during the festivities, advising them to stay alert and report any suspicious movements or activities to relevant security agencies.

The Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) has called on Muslims to sustain the spirit of devotion and righteousness beyond the holy month of Ramadan.

In a statement jointly signed by its President, Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, and Executive Secretary, Professor Wole Abbas, to mark the Eid-el-Fitr celebration, the group said the end of fasting should not signal the end of the spiritual and moral transformation attained during Ramadan.

MUSWEN stressed that the virtues of discipline, self-denial, generosity, and increased devotion observed during the fasting period should serve as a lifelong guide for every believer.

Reflecting on the state of the nation, the body urged Muslims to continue offering prayers for peace, security, and economic prosperity in Nigeria.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, let us remember that the God we served during Ramadan remains ever ready to reward our deeds throughout the year,” the statement read.

The group also prayed that Almighty Allah accepts the fasting and supplications of the Ummah and grants the nation enduring peace and stability.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, has deployed over two thousand personnel across the state to ensure a peaceful Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

The State Commandant, Dr. Augustine Padonu stated this while addressing officers ahead of the operation, noting that the personnel have been strategically positioned at Eid prayer grounds, markets, motor parks, recreation centres, major highways and other public places.

He explained that the deployment is part of a comprehensive security arrangement aimed at safeguarding lives and property before, during and after the festivities.

The Commandant also said, specialised units, including surveillance teams, intelligence officers, the counter-terrorism unit and emergency response teams, have been placed on high alert to tackle any security threat.

He gave assurance that the Corps would collaborate with other security agencies to maintain law and order, protect critical national assets and infrastructure.

While congratulating Muslim faithful on the successful completion of Ramadan, Commandant Padonu warned criminal elements to stay away from the state, stressing that the command is fully prepared to deal decisively with anyone who attempts to disrupt the peace.

The Federal Government has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to mark the celebration of Eid-el-Fitri.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the government in a statement issued on Tuesday.

In a message conveyed through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, the minister congratulated Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

The Minister urged Muslims to uphold the values of love, generosity, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice, which are central to the holy month.

Tunji-Ojo also called on Nigerians to use the festive period to pray for peace, unity, and the continued prosperity of the country.

He further encouraged citizens to celebrate responsibly and extend kindness to the less privileged, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to national unity and peaceful coexistence.

The Federal Government has extended the public holiday for the Eid-El-Fitr celebration to Thursday.

On Sunday, it declared a two-day holiday, Tuesday and Wednesday for the festivities.

However, the crescent was not sighted in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, meaning the Eid celebration will take place on Wednesday.

This prompted the Federal Government to add an extra day to the already-declared public holiday.

“The Federal Government has approved Thursday 11th April 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr,” the Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary Aishetu Gogo Ndayako said in an early Tuesday statement.

“The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo while congratulating the Muslim Ummah for a successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation reiterates President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR firm commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all to thrive.”

Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has tasked politicians seeking redress in courts to accept the outcomes in good faith.

Abubakar, who made the assertion in his Eid-el-Fitr massage to Nigerians on Friday in Sokoto State said: ”The elections had come and gone, people should go ahead with their routine activities peacefully.

“Politicians seeking redress in courts should take the outcomes in good faith and support whoever emerges for the sustenance of peace, unity and development.”

The sultan appreciated the Almighty Allah for the successful completion of Ramadan fasting by the Muslim Ummah across the country.

As mankind, we always appreciate the Almighty Allah for the gift of life and good health to be among those that will celebrate this great day.

“During the period of Ramadan, we have learned a lot from our scholars, we should continue to sustain those lessons to be part of life.

“Our generosity to the less privileged among us should be maintained in order to enhance our relationship and sustain our love for one another,” he urged.

Abubakar felicitated all the Muslims across the country and prayed for the elected leaders to succeed in delivering their campaign promises to the citizens.

He prayed for the sustenance of peace, unity and peaceful coexistence, while urging leaders to fear Allah in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly, OSHA, Mr. Timothy Owoeye, has congratulated Muslims across the state and Nigeria over the successful completion of Ramadan.

Mr. Owoeye in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Kunle Alabi urged them to continue with the significance of the Holy month which teaches them to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less privileged in society. 

He urged Muslims and Nigerians to use the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitr to pray for peace and prosperity in the country.

Mr. Owoeye emphasized the need for Nigerians to sustain the peace, progress, and stability of the state and nation to pave way for another phase of the transition of power from one president to another.

The speaker said, “Having observed strictly the injunctions of Almighty Allah through fasting and prayers and by offering Zakat, the lessons learned during the period should not be lost, rather they should be part of the daily lives of the true Muslim in his dealings with fellow Muslims and people of other faith”.

“Let us remain strong in our hope that Nigeria will become what we fervently pray for it to be positively, a nation that fills its citizens with happiness and pride”.

“Every true Muslim feels the joy of the month by participating in the Ramadan fast, which is a key obligation in Islam. May Almighty Allah, therefore, reward us for the spiritual exercise and grant our wishes for families and dear country”.

Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria, MMPN has felicitated with Muslims on the successful completion of this year’s 30-day Ramadan fast and urged them to let the lessons learnt during the period continue to reflect in them.

In an Eid-el Fitr message by the National President of the association, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun said the lessons of self restraint, sacrifice, charity, fear of Allah, devotion and love of mankind imbibed during the period must continue all year round.

On the economy, MMPN implored the Federal government to cushion the effects of inflation on the citizenry with an aggressive policy aimed at relieving Nigerians from the present economic crunch.

As the nation is on the march to full political activities, the Association appealed to all stakeholders to play the game with fear of Allah and be fair to all concerned with the hope that all shall give account of their deeds on the day of reckoning.

The statement implored Muslims to exercise their rights to contest for elective positions and also participate actively in the electoral process by obtaining their Permanent Voters Card and cast their votes to the candidate of their choice.

The Association for the umpteenth time restated its call for the provision of adequate security in the country.
“The rate of insecurity in the country is alarming and disturbing and it seems no no person is safe. The Federal Government is hereby enjoined to intensify efforts in this direction as it is affecting all facets of activities in the country”.

On ASUU and Federal Government face off, the MMPN appealed to them to find lasting solution to the incessant strikes disrupting the academic calendar with its attendant effects on Nigerian students and the educational sector in the country.

MMPN noted that prayer is the sword of believers, hence Muslims should use this festive period to continue to pray fervently to Allah, for peace, security and well-being of Nigerians and the country as against cursing the leaders.

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has felicitated the Muslim Ummah in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of the Eid-el-Fitri festivity, calling on them to sustain prayers for the state and its leaders.


The governor who congratulated Muslim faithful on witnessing the end of the Ramadan, prayed that Allah would accept their worship and keep them all alive and healthy to witness the next Ramadan.


A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying that though the Ramadan season is over, Muslim faithful must continue to practise the lessons that the Holy Month taught us all by remaining close to Allah and denying the self in submission to His will.


The governor equally called on residents of the state to continue to pray for his government and to support its programmes and policies, which are geared towards repositioning the state.


He said:“I also want to charge them that though the Ramadan is over, their commitment to the ideals of prayers, selflessness and service should not wane as these are values that can make our society a better place.


“Please, do not relent in your prayers for Oyo State and its leadership and your support for our administration. “We believe that it is in doing these that we all can derive joy and bring about a better Oyo State.”

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has ordered heavy nationwide deployment of Police officers, especially intelligence operatives, traffic officers and other operational assets of the Force for adequate security ahead of the  Eid-el-Fitr celebration and beyond.

The IGP equally ordered that adequate priority be accorded to Eid prayer grounds, highways, recreational centres, financial institutions especially ATM and POS points, to safeguard religious celebrations and financial transactions during the festive period.

The IGP’s order to Strategic Police Managers at various levels is predicated on the need to maintain a more secured public and social space for the celebration. He further directed that all men deployed must be properly briefed and adequately supervised to ensure they maintained high level of proactiveness, visibility patrols and professionalism in the discharge of policing services to all and sundry.
 
The IGP equally tasked all Commissioners of Police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to ensure that crime and criminality was put in check and brought to its lowest ebb for a hitch free celebration.

The Inspector-General of Police, on behalf of the Force Management Team, and the entire workforce of the Nigeria Police Force, felicitated with all Muslim faithful in the country as they join the global Muslim Ummah to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

He admonishes them to practicalise the values of empathy, faith, charity and other salient teachings of Ramadan in their relationship with other members of the society.

In a bid to control the spread of COVID-19 in Ogun state, Muslim faithful were unable to gather at the Eid ground yesterday to perform the usual two Rakah prayer.

The roads in Abeokuta the Ogun state capital were deserted with the presence of security men and women enforcing the lockdown.

Only few vehicles on essential duties were seen on the roads while residents stayed in their various houses.

It is also expected that the residents perform their religious activities individually as part of the measures to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the state.
