  • INEC Seeks Support of Religious Leaders for Ekiti Election

    Ahead the governorship poll in Ekiti comes June the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, wants religious leaders to educate their followers on the imperative of collecting Permanent Voter Card, PVC.

    The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, for INEC, Dr. Adeniran Tella gave the advice in Ado Ekiti during an interactive session with religious leaders and faith based groups.

    Dr. Tella explained that were avenues to collect their Christian and Islamic leaders could use to convince adherent of the two faiths to collect PVC and vote for the candidate of their choice.

    The Ekiti REC also urged religious leaders to use their strength to sensitize their members to be orderly during the election.

    In their responses, the incoming state Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Reverend Emmanuel Aribasoye and leader of the Muslim Students Association, Amiru Nurudeen lbrahim assured the electoral body of more supports, especially in the areas of mobilization and prayers for smooth conduct of the election.

  • Bullet Hits Corps Member during Ekiti Election

    The National Youth Service Corps announce that a Corps Member who was part of the adhoc staff for the bye-election in Ekiti State sustained gunshot wound from hoodlums who attacked the polling unit.

    In a statement, the Director Press and Public Relations, Mrs. Adenike Adeyemi, explained that the Corps Member is in stable condition and responding to treatment, while others have all returned home safely.

    She reiterated that Corps Members are a political and neutral, and must be protected by all and sundry.

    Inthe meantime, the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has condemned, in strong terms, the violence that marred Saturday’s bye-election in Ekiti East Constituency 1 of the State House Assembly.

    According to the statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, the Governor said all those involved in the dastardly act would not go unpunished.

    The Governor directed the State Commissioner of Police, Babatunde Mobayo, to ensure that the political thugs were arrested and prosecuted regardless of their party affiliation.

    The Governor also commiserated with the families of those reported to have been killed during the crisis as well as those who sustained injuries.
