Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, has advised corps members to be self-reliant and proactive in wealth creation.

The governor gave the advice at the swearing-in ceremony of 2025 Batch C corps members held at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin

Governor Makinde, who spoke through the Director of Youth Development, Ministry of youth and Sports, Alhaja Kudirat Mustapha, noted that the current economic challenges of the country required innovators to upturn situation.

He charged them to embrace the values of integrity, hard work, respect for cultural diversity, and peaceful coexistence throughout their one year mandatory service in the state.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the Oyo State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Peters Kayode charged the corps members to take the orientation course seriously so as to be better equipped for the one year mandatory national service.

Three thousand five hundred and ninety-eight corps members took the oat of allegiance administered by the Chief Justice of Oyo state, Justice Iyabo Yerima, represented by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi.

The Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has lauded the achievement of the retiring Commissioner of Police, CP, Ayodele Sonubi, for his dedication and diligence.

Appreciating The CP, Governor Makinde presented a brand new Toyota Land Cruiser Prado to Mr Sonubi at the Eleyele Police Command in Ibadan.

Gov Makinde who spoke through his Executive Assistant on Security, Mr Sunday Odukoya reiterated that there is always reward for diligence.

Appreciating the gift, Mr Sonubi described the gift as a big honour. He also seized the opportunity to acknowledge the support of the governor towards security agencies in the state.

The retiring CP noted that resources given them had assisted greatly in combating crime.

During his tenure, CP Sonubi achieved notable successes, including many arrests and recovery of vehicles, firearms, and ammunition.

Mr Sonubi who assumed duty as the commissioner of police in oyo state on June 16, 2024 will be retiring this month.

Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has felicitated the governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri, on his re-election as the governor of the state, describing the victory as heart-warming for all members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Governor Makinde stated this following the announcement of Governor Diri as the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in Bayelsa State.

The governor congratulated his colleague, Diri, the PDP family in Bayelsa and the people of the state, adding that the governor would be able to consolidate on the good development his administration had put in place in the state since he first assumed office almost four years ago.

Governor Makinde equally commended the Bayelsa electorate on their peaceful conduct before, during and after the poll.

He said: “I congratulate my brother and governor of Bayelsa State, His Excellency, Governor Duoye Diri, on his re-election as governor of the state for another term of four years.

“This victory is heart-warming for us in the PDP and it is a testament to the fact that our party remains a credible platform with people-oriented leaders, who always put their people first.

“I commend the great people of Bayelsa State for retaining Bayelsa in the PDP by re-electing Governor Diri and also for their peaceful conduct before, during and after the poll.”

Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State Senator Teslim Folarin has congratulated governor Seyi Makinde on his victory at the 2023 governorship election.

In a statement by Senator Folarin, he appreciated members of the APC, friends and political allies for their support

Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde has done a minor reshuffling of his cabinet, assigning new portfolios to two Commissioners.

The reshuffling was announced at the Executive Council meeting at the Executive Chamber of the Governor’s Office, in Ibadan.

A statement by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun indicated that the Governor directed Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye to henceforth head the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Hon. Bayo Lawal will be in charge of the Ministry of Trades, Industry, Investment and Cooperatives.

In attendance at the meeting was the Deputy Govenor of Oyo State, Barr. Bayo Lawal, which is his first executive council meeting after he was sworn in as the Deputy Governor of Oyo State.

Also in attendance were the Secretary to the State Government, Olubamiwo Adeosun; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Segun Ogunwuyi and others.

The Oyo State Government, on Wednesday, inaugurated a Joint State Revenue Committee, that will see to the smooth running of Revenue collection in the State.

In his speech during the inauguration, the Executive Chairman, Oyo State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Adebowale Awakan explained that the committee was inaugurated to ensure that the State Revenue Service and the Local Government are on the same page on Revenue collection and to make sure the people of the State do not encounter pressure in paying taxes and other levies.

According to the Chairman “Convenience of payment is one of the canons of taxation”, so, every taxpayer should pay as at when due in a way that will not exact any pressure on them.

He also stated that the committee will sensitize and give the consultants appointed the necessary guidelines and assistance in the discharge of their duty.

Mr Awakan said, ‘’this Committee is a platform for interaction among the operational arms of the Revenue Administration in the State.  Consultants should therefore be mindful of the need to relate and cooperate with their principals and other stakeholders.  The support of the management of OYSIRS, the Executive Chairmen of our various Local Government councils and that of the Headquarters of the Federal Road Safety Corp would inevitably be needed in the execution of resolution.

“The Revenue collected by the Federal Government is different from the State Government and State Revenue is different from Local Governments.  We don’t want multiplicity of taxes and as His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde directed that the tax rate should not be increased to avoid pressure on the people but rather enlarge the tax net for revenue increment.

‘’The statutory assignment of the Committee is to implement the decision of the Joint Tax Board; advice the Joint Tax Board, the state and the Local Government on Revenue matters; harmonize tax administration in the state; enlighten members of the public generally on State and Local Government Revenue matters and carry out other functions as may be assigned to it by the Joint Tax Board.

“Moreover, the Revenue Committee will extend their tentacles to all areas where Revenue is expected to be generated so that the government will have enough to fund its projects and other assignments.

 “On that note, I hereby pronounce the Joint State Revenue Committee inaugurated’’, the Chairman, OYSIRS said.

The newly-inaugurated committee is headed by the Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service; while the Chairman of each Local Government Revenue Committee is also a member; a representative of the bureau on Local Government affair not below the rank of Director; a representative of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission as an observer; the Legal Adviser to the State Internal Revenue and the Secretary to the Committee who shall be a staff of the State Internal Revenue Service.

The inauguration which took place in the conference room of the Ministry of Finance, Secretariat, Ibadan, also had in attendance some Local Government Chairmen, the State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Uche Chukwura and her entourage, OYSIRS Directors, a representative from the Ministry of Justice, Mrs Omoyiwola Ajala and representatives from Local Governments.

The Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the sum of #294.7 as the 2022 Appropriation Bill into law.

This followed the third reading of the Oyo State Appropriation and Finance Bill 2020 at plenary presided over by the Speaker, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin.

According to the reports presented by the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Akeem Mustapha, the sum of #139.5 (one hundred and thirty-nine point five billon naira was approved for recurrent expenditure while #155.1 (one hundred and fifty-five point one billion naira was approved for capital expenditure.

The state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde had on 29 September, 2021 presented a budget of N294.5 billion to the State House of Assembly for the 2022 fiscal year, indicating that the budget passed by the House of Assembly was jacked up by over #188 million naira.

Speaker of the House, Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin said the lawmakers made frantic effort at ensuring that the budget review was done in line with the reality of the state revenue base.

Mr Ogundoyin assured members of the public that the state’s legislative arm of government should be held responsible should the budget is not used for what it is supposed, which is for the growth and development of the state.
