Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke has urged Nigerians to be committed to the values of patriotism, loyalty and sacrifice for which the Nigerian Armed Forces are known. 

Governor Adeleke made the call at the grand finale and laying of wreath at the Military Cenotaph for the 2025 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration in Osogbo.

He stressed the need for continued support for the armed forces and work towards a more peaceful and secure Nigeria.

While commending the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes in defending the nation’s sovereign integrity, peace and unity, the governor said he would continue to support the armed forces to enable them to perform their duties of protecting the territorial integrity of the nation and state.

He said Nigerians owed families of gallant fallen heroes a duty of care, support and prayers at all times to ameliorate their pain and loss.

The governor called on public and private organizations to expand their support for the military stressing that in the face of conflict and economic depression, the nation’s security should remain a priority.

Governor Adeleke assured the legionnaires and veterans of the government’s readiness to attend to their demands which had been presented before him.

At the event, prayers were offered for the repose of the souls of departed soldiers and a 21-gun salute in their honour.

The grand finale of the 2025 Armed Forces and Remembrance Day celebration which had in attendance dignitaries from government and the security agencies featured the laying of the wreath and a special parade in honour of the departed heroes.

As the nation remembers the fallen heroes, the Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Oyo State Command, Mr Micheal Adaralewa has called on well-meaning Nigerians to always support the families left behind by the departed souls.

Mr Adaralewa stated this when he received Armed Forces Remembrance Planning Committee from the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Director of Social Welfare and Social Inclusion Oyo State.

He said, though, the government was doing its best to support the ex-servicemen and the families of fallen heroes but the public could also render assistance to them to live a good life.

The NSCDC boss, therefore, commended the committee for a job well done.

Earlier, the chairman of the committee, Mr Ayoade Adetayo from the Ministry of Women Affairs and Director of Social Welfare and Social Inclusion Oyo State commended the NSCDC for playing a vital role in the internal security of the state and also applauded the Command’s response to emergency calls in the state.

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the families of the fallen heroes that the government will not jettison its plans to improve their standard of living as a matter of top national priority.

President Buhari made the statement at this year’s Armed forces Remembrance Day Celebration Jummah prayer held at the National Mosque Abuja.

Represented by the Minister of Defence Maj. Gen. Salihi Magashi, the president said the government is appreciative of the sacrifices of the serving, retired and unknown soldiers who paid the supreme price towards safeguarding the Nation’s territorial integrity.

He described the annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration of which special Jumat service represents a significant segment as a token of expression of love and appreciation for their gallantry and a platform to besiege Almighty Allah to uphold the families they left behind and to pray for the repose of their souls.

President Buhari assured Nigerians that the counter-terrorism, anti-banditry, and other military operations in parts of the country aimed at restoring peace are well on course with a greater commitment on the parts of the Fighting troops to achieve the end state of wiping out the criminal elements threatening national survival and stability.

The special prayer was attended by serving top Military hierarchies and members of the diplomatic communities.
