Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 32 year old fashion designer, Omowumi Oyapitan, for allegedly killing a 30 year old Mohammed Ahmed in Ota area of the state.

The suspect was arrested after the policeman attached to Onipanu divisional headquarters received a distress call from the managing director of an Inn in the area, Stephen Udo that the suspect had allegedly stabbed the deceased to death during an argument.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement in Abeokuta.

Mr Oyeyemi said the suspect was trying to intervene in a case involving the victim and a boy she claimed to know over the money the deceased had allegedly stolen from his place of work.

He noted that the deceased was not pleased with the suspect’s intervention and gave her a fist blow in the mouth and in retaliation, she broke a bottle and used it to stab the deceased on his neck. 

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to homicide section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

Donna Karan was born Donna Ivy Faske on October 2, 1948, in Forest Hills, New York.

Karan, who grew up in Hewlett, Long Island, was immersed in the world of fashion from an early age.

Her mother worked as a model while her stepfather made a living as a suit designer.

Karan’s family’s influence was apparent in her early life because by the age of 14, she had dropped out of school and begun selling clothing at a local boutique.

In 1968, Karan was accepted into the highly respected Parsons School of Design in New York City and while in school, Karan landed a prestigious summer job working for designer Anne Klein.

Her work there proved so impressive that within two years she was named associate designer.

By the age of 26, Karan, who was by then married to her first husband, Mark Karan, was named head designer.

One of the most influential fashion designers in the world, Donna Karan has left a lasting impact on the world of clothing, bringing uptown New York chic into the mainstream.

In 2004, she was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.

Karan published her autobiography “The Journey of a Woman” in 2004.

In 2015, she stepped down as the head of her own label to devote her time to Urban Zen, a lifestyle brand she launched in 2007.
