Long queues are gradually reducing from filling stations within Ado Ekiti metropolis.

Radio Nigeria reporter gathered that users of the product are now patronizing Petrol stations where fuel is being dispensed at the rate of 162 naira to 165 naira per litre.

It was also gathered that, some filling stations still selling the product above 200 naira per litre but consumers failed to patronize them.

Meanwhile, a cross section of residents of Ado Ekiti has appealed to the Task Force on petroleum products to move round the state capital and shut any filling station caught selling above the approved pump price of 162 naira per litre.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria, Mr Ade Olaiya and Mrs Bose Ajayi wondered why Task Force refused to close any filling station contravening Government directives on pump price, alleging that they may have been bribed to kick against the right thing.

The Ekiti State Petroleum Regulatory Task Force Agency has sealed ten petrol stations in Ado Ekiti for engaging in wholesome practises and failure to pay their taxes.

A member of the agency, Mr Akindele Ogungbuyi led the task force on a visit to the affected filling stations within the state capital.

He explained that the erring petrol stations were shut for allegedly engaging in sharp practices such as, under dispensing and adjustment of pump above the newly approved pump price of 170 naira per litre.

Mr Ogungbuyi stated that the agency had on several occasions warned the petrol stations against sharp practices but they failed to desist from such act.

He however cautioned the sealed filling stations against the reopening of their establishments without paying their fines.

The task force team leader said the agency would extend its monitoring to filling stations in other towns to check their illegal activities.

Filling stations in Ibadan metropolis have not complied with the federal government’s directive to reduce the pump price of petroleum from one hundred and twenty-five naira to one hundred and twenty-three naira fifty kobo.

The new price which was announced last night was to commence today 1st of April.

Our correspondent who monitored the situation in Ibadan observed that most filling stations were still selling at one hundred and twenty-five naira.

Some motorists and commercial drivers who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed displeasure that both major and independent marketers failed to comply with the new directive.

They, however, lauded the federal government for the initiative noting that the price might still come down.

A manager of one of the major marketers who did not want his name mentioned said they were waiting for the directive from their head office.

It would be recalled that on the eighteenth of last month, the federal government announced the reduction in Petroleum Motor Spirit, PMS, from one hundred and forty-five naira to one hundred and twenty-five naira for the month of March due to a fall in the price of oil in the international market.
