‎Ekiti State has recorded its first rainfall of the year 2026.

‎The rain, which lasted for about an hour, was witnessed in towns such as Ifaki and Aramoko Ekiti, while light showers were also recorded in Ado Ekiti, Iworoko Ekiti and some other parts of the state.

‎Some residents who spoke on the development described the early rainfall as a positive sign, expressing optimism that the new year would be prosperous.

‎Others said the rain brought relief from the intense heat currently being experienced across the state.

‎Residents, however, expressed hope that the rainfall would continue in the coming weeks to support farming activities and improve agricultural productivity across Ekiti State.

Oyo State has joined its neighbouring states like Lagos, Ekiti and Ogun in witnessing the first rain of 2025.

Rain was witnessed in some parts of the State Capital, Ibadan, such as Ayegun Oleyo, Odo Ona Elewe, Oluyole, Apata, Idi-Ishin, Jericho, Mokola, Dugbe, Oje, Agodi gate, Iyana church, Olodo, Amuloko, and its environs.

The rain which started around half past four in the morning was heavy in some areas and light in other places and lasted between ten to thirty minutes.

Residents who spoke with Radio Nigeria expressed relief and believed that the rain would reduce the current heat and dust.

One of the residents of Ayegun Oleyo, and Odo Ona Elewe, Mr Ademola Daniel noted that the rain would significantly reduce dust emanating from the ongoing road rehabilitation in the area.

While speaking with our correspondent in Olodo, the residents said they stepped out of their houses to allow the first rain to drop on them and prayed, describing it as a positive sign for the remaining part of the year.

Meanwhile, residents of some areas like Omi-Adio, Akobo, and Ojoo, said, there was no sign of rain in their areas but optimistic that it would rain in their environments very soon.

There had been signs of imminent rain in the city with cloudy weather and breeze, especially in the evening.

Ekiti State on Saturday has recorded the first rain in the year 2023.

Among the areas where it was recorded were, Adebayo, Olorunsogo, Olorunda, Okeila, Fajuyi all in Ado Ekiti, while it drizzled at some places in the state.

It also rained heavily in Ido Ekiti, Oye, Ikogosi and Ilawe.

The rain which started at about 7:15pm lasted for barely twenty eight minutes.

There was so much excitement among residents of Ipetumodu Osun state on Wednesday evening when they witness the first rain of the year.

The downpour was accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms.

A resident who spoke with Radio Nigeria, said the showers were initially dirty as it was washing dust on building roofs.

The respondent said she was happy because the rain eliminated the heat being experienced by the people.

Similarly, some parts of Ibadan, Oyo State Capital also recorded the first rain of the year.

At Odo-Ona kekere area in Oluyole Local government, the rain, though not heavy, started a few minutes to ten in the night.

The rain also drizzled in other areas including, Odejayi, at Agodi gate,Arulogun Ojoo, Olorunda-aba, College Crescent and Jericho all in Ibadan.
