Gateway United have increased their unbeaten run to seven in the Nigeria National League, NNL, following a 2-1 win over Inter Lagos Football Club.

Odusina Sunkanmi got the first goal for Gateway United in the 45 minutes of the encounter played at the MKO International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The Samson Omiponle tutored Gateway United players continued from where they left in the first half; their efforts paid off in the 65 minutes when Eddidon Adrian converted from the penalty spot to double Gateway United’s lead.

With 10 minutes remaining, Akinola Wale pulled one back for the visitors with a header, but Oladeji Joshua ensured the scoreline remained the same by saving a free kick. 

Speaking with Journalists after the game, Coach Samson Omiponle praised his team’s character, resilience, and grit, expressing excitement and confidence in their ability to secure a playoff spot. 

Coach Omiponle expressed optimism that his boys would pick the maximum points away, against the only team to beat them at home, FC One Rocket in Akwa Ibom.

It was a massive home victory for Gateway United Football Club of Ogun State following an impressive four-nil win over visiting Warri Wolves in week 12 of the Nigeria National League, NNL, encounter.

The four goals were scored in the second half of the game played at the MKO International Stadium, Kuto Abeokuta after both teams failed to convert the chances created in the first 45 minutes.

Odusina Sunkanmi fired Gateway United into the lead with a stunning finish in the 50th minute of the game after the diminutive forward connected with a cross at the back post.

Babatunde Taofeek got the second for the home team in the 55th minute of the encounter before Babatunde Damilare and Wasiu Falolu increased the tally to three and four goals in the 71st and 78th minutes of the game.

Speaking with Radio Nigeria after the game, Coach Samson Omiponle who attributed the victory to players’ dedication and hard work commended the management and fans for their support for the team.

Coach Omiponle promised to approach the next game away to Tradesafe football team with a renewed vigour and winning mentality.

 Former Ekiti United Football Club handler, Samson Omiponle has been unveiled as the head coach of Gateway United Football Club of Ogun State.

Coach Omiponle was unveiled alongside his assistant, Rasheed Bamgbose at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Presenting the new Head Coach to the public, the General Manager of Gateway Utd FC, Mr. Niyi Soleye expressed excitement for the addition of the former Warri Wolves Coach.

Mr Soleye noted that the appointment of coach Omiponle was in line with the desire of the state government and fans of the club.

He urged the new Manager not to dash the expectation of the fans’ hope of seeing the football club at the Nigeria Premier League next year.

Addressing journalists, Coach Omiponle assured the management of possessive football which according to him is the modern style of elite football.

He promised to bring his wide experience as football analyst for Shooting Stars to ensure qualification of Gateway United to the Premier League next season.

Ogun State Football Association, OGSFA, has suspended Gateway United Football club player, Mr Omoyayi Saburi indefinitely from all organised football activities in the state.
The suspension is contained in a letter written and signed by the state Secretary of the Association, Mr Victor Idowu and sent to the General Manager of the Club and copy the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Dr ‘Dare Kehinde.
The Association explains that the suspension became necessary following the unsportsmanlike behaviour of the player in the semi final match involving Gateway United and Ijebu United FC played at Remo stars Stadium, Ikenne.
It says the timely intervention of the Technical committee and stakeholders prevented what could led to bringing the game of football into disrepute due to player’s behaviour during the encounter.
The Association notes that suspension of Mr Omoyayi Saburi from the Ogun state organized footballing activities is indefinite pending the outcome of the investigation of OGSFA disciplinary committee.

Coach Akeem Busari of Gateway United Football club has expressed satisfaction with the performance of his players in their one nil win over Godosky Football Club of Nnewi in week eight encounter of the Nigeria National League, NNL, 

Michael Okolo’s free kick goal in the 38th minute of the game played at the MKO international stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta was enough to give Gateway United FC the maximum three points.

Coach Busari, who noted that plans were to inject fresh legs into the team, said playing in the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL, remained the target of the club.

The assistant coach of Godosky FC, Ismaila Ibrahim blamed the defeat of his team on the failure of the strikers to convert the chances created in the encounter.

Gateway united FC will play away to Bayelsa United in a mid week encounter.

The management of Gateway United has expressed its condolences to Nigerian football fraternity over the sudden death of a member of the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Chidi Ofo Okenwa.

The acting General Manager of the Ogun State-owned club, Mr. Niyi Soleye in a statement through the media officer, Mr Moses Ojewunmi described death of Mr Okenwa as big loss to Nigeria football family. 

Mr Soleye said Mr Okenwa was a great football administrator who had keen interest in the development of the round leather game in the nation.

He noted that the late member of the executive committee of the Nigeria Football Federation would be greatly missed by all.
