Service of songs has been held in his honour of the late former military governor of old Oyo State, retired Brigadier General Adetunji Idowu Olurin at Ilaro in Ogun State.

The service of songs attended by family, friends and well-wishers was part of the activities lined up to celebrate the life of the late military officer.

The late Brigadier General Olurin, who served as a military governor in Oyo State between 1985 and 1988 died at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, on the twentieth of August this year at the age of seventy-eight.

Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Mr Olaolu Olabitan described the death of Brigadier General Olurin as a great loss, not only for his family but also for the entire people of the state.

The governor said the Late General Olurin was bigger than the entire Yewaland considering the legacies he left behind.

The Paramount Ruler of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle in a tribute described the late General as a true son of the land who fought tirelessly for the development of Yewaland and Ogun state in general.

The monarch called on all the politicians in Yewaland, especially those aspiring for political positions to emulate the good qualities of the deceased.

The Senator Representing Lagos West at the National Assembly, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, in a tribute, said the late general impacted Nigeria’s political terrain through several advices and counsels.

The service of songs was attended by royal fathers, politicians and governments functionaries from within and outside Ogun State.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has described the Former Administrator of Oyo State late General Adetunji Olurin as a dependable, reliable and worthy son of the state.

Governor Abiodun who stated this when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the late general in Lagos, said the deceased was a gallant military officer who served the nation meritoriously during his lifetime.

Governor Abiodun said the death of late General Olurin occurred when the country and Ogun State needed his security expertise in tackling various security challenges confronting the nation.

He also said that the death of the late general was a painful loss to the state and the country in general.

While commiserating with the entire family of the deceased, Governor Abiodun, said death remained inevitable, and promised that his administration would continue to support the family.

The widow of the deceased, Mrs. Kehinde Olurin thanked the governor for the visit and his kind gesture since the demise of her husband.

The senator representing Ogun West Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Chief Tolu Odebiyi, has commiserate with the family of the former Sole Administrator of Ekiti State, General Adetunji Olurin over the sad loss of the revered Army General.

Senator Odebiyi in a condolence message to the family described the death as a very rude shock.  

The senator who is a close relative to the late Army General said he was a dependable and kind uncle. 

Senator Odebiyi said late General Olurin served Nigeria meritoriously during his lifetime, noting that his death came at a time he was needed most. 

He commiserated with General Olurin’s Wife, Mrs. Kehinde Olurin (née Oyeleye), his two sons, the entire family as well as his friends and associates, praying that Almighty God grant all the strength to bear the great loss.

General Adetunji Idowu Olurin has passed on at the age of 78.

General Olurin, of the popular Olurin family in Ilaro Yewa in Ogun State, served Nigeria and ECOWAS in many capacities among which are ECOMOG Commander, Military Administrator of Oyo State, Civilian Adminstrator of Ekiti State and Chancellor of Nigeria’s first University of Education, TASUED.

General Olurin was the Commander, 1st Mechanized Brigade, Minna, GOC, 3rd Armoured Division, Jos.

He has also lectured on peacekeeping at the International Peace Academy, the National War College, and United Nations seminars in Ghana, Nigeria, and Senegal.

Olurin received many honours including the United Nations Peace Medal and the Knight Commander of the Humane Order of African Redemption, KCHOAR. He was also an honourary paramount chief of the Republic of Liberia.
