This Day, necessity compelled me to celebrate an exceptional individual whose two-year tenure as the General Manager of Pensioners 106.7 FM Ibadan has left an indelible mark on the broadcasting industry.

Otunba (Dr.) Babatunde “BT” Tiamiyu, a true visionary and an iconic broadcaster, has transformed the radio station into a beacon of excellence in programming and income generation.

His remarkable achievements and unwavering dedication deserve our utmost admiration and heartfelt appreciation.

From his broadcasting tutelage at the prestigious Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan, it was evident that Otunba Babatunde possessed an innate talent and passion for the art of communication.

He honed his skills, learned from the best in the field, and emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the broadcasting industry.

His journey towards becoming a seasoned broadcaster was further enriched by his academic pursuits at the University of Ibadan, the first university in Nigeria, and the ESCEA University in Benin Republic.

Additionally, his commitment to continuous learning led him to the Institute of Information Management, where he acquired valuable knowledge in managing information effectively.

As the General Manager of Pensioners 106.7 FM Ibadan, Otunba Tiamiyu embarked on a transformative journey, dedicating himself to improving the station’s programming and income generation.

Under his astute leadership, the radio station witnessed a remarkable turnaround, capturing the hearts and minds of listeners through its engaging and thought-provoking content.

He introduced innovative programs that catered to a diverse audience, ensuring that the station remained relevant and in tune with the ever-evolving media landscape.

Moreover, Otunba Tiamiyu’s profound understanding of the business side of broadcasting enabled him to implement effective strategies for income generation.

Through strategic partnerships, creative advertising campaigns, and exploring new revenue streams, he successfully enhanced the financial sustainability of Pensioners 106.7 FM Ibadan.

BT’s ability to strike a balance between quality content and revenue generation has set a new benchmark for radio stations across the country.

Beyond his professional achievements, Otunba Tiamiyu is admired for his humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of his staff.

He fostered a culture of collaboration and inclusivity, empowering his team to excel and contribute their best.

His leadership style, characterized by transparency and open communication, created a supportive environment where creativity thrived, and innovation flourished.

Today, as I celebrate Otunba (Dr.) Babatunde Tiamiyu’s two-year milestone, I can’t but reflect on his remarkable contributions to the world of broadcasting.

His legacy will continue to inspire aspiring broadcasters and leaders, reminding us of the transformative power of dedication, vision, and hard work.

The success of Pensioners 106.7 FM Ibadan stands as a testament to his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Broadcast stations have been told to always uphold professionalism in their contents.

The new State Coordinator of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, in Ondo State, Mrs Olubunmi Kehinde gave the charge when she paid a familiarization visit to Positive FM Akure.

Mrs Kehinde who explained that NBC was not created to witch-hunt any broadcast station but to guide, regulate and checkmate their daily activities within the NBC codes.

She commended Radio Nigeria for being a model in broadcasting in terms of news reportage and programming.

Mrs Kehinde reminded broadcast stations of the need to shun partisan politics, unapproved music and inciting words especially as the 2023 elections draw nearer.

While welcoming the New NBC Coordinator to the state, the General Manager, Positive FM, Akure, Mrs Olubunmi Olalere appreciated the NBC for carrying out its duties but advocated training and retraining of content creators to enable them function within the NBC rules and regulations.

Mrs Olalere said Radio Nigeria known for “Uplifting the People And Uniting the Nation” would continue to uphold professionalism.

Brightville College Ibadan has emerged as the Oyo State champions of the FRCN Ibadan Kids Football Challenge. 

The Ibadan Zone Champions defeated Oyo Zone Champions, Ilora Community Commercial High School by two goals to nothing in the final which was played at the University of Ibadan Football Field. 

Earlier, Oliver Baptist High School, Oyo who came second in Oyo Zone had won the third-place match of the tournament.

The Oyo side came from one goal down to defeat Loyola College, Ibadan who are runners-up from Ibadan Zone by two goals to one. 

David Ogunwuyi from Olivet Baptist High School won the best player award, Quyun Olasupo from Brightville College won the best goalkeeper award while Isaac John from Brightville College was the highest goal scorer with seven goals. 

Speaking with newsmen, Zonal Director, FRCN, Ibadan, Mrs Bolatito Joseph said the football tournament would be held annually.

Mrs Joseph appealed to parents and school proprietors to encourage children to participate in sports due to its numerous benefits. 

She commended the local organizing committee of the tournament headed by Deputy Director Marketing of the Corporation, Mr Wale Afinjuomo for a successful outing.

Present at the closing ceremony were former deputy speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly, OHSA, Mr Babatunde Olaniyan, Deputy Director, Engineering Services, FRCN Ibadan, Engineer Gabriel Ajayi, General Manager, Premier FM, Alhaji Bashir Omotosho, Deputy Director, Finance, Mr James Amole and football administrators.

The new Owaloko of Iloko-Ijesa, Osun State, Oba Akeem Ogungbangbe has assured Radio Nigeria Gold FM of more support towards meeting the yearnings of people at the grassroots.

The newly-crowned traditional ruler who gave the assurance when the management of the station led by its general manager, Mr Adedamola Tinubu paid homage to him in Iloko, described Gold FM as a friend of the community.

Oba Ogungbangbe appreciated the station for according the traditional institution respect and cooperation, promising to work with the station for the socio-economic growth of Iloko and Ijesaland in general.

Earlier, the General Manager of Gold FM, Mr. Tinubu congratulated the Owaloko for ascending the throne and reiterated Radio Nigeria’s commitment to preserving the nation’s culture and projecting Iloko to the international community.

Mr. Tinubu who described the recent Osun State Government’s approval of Oba Ogungbangbe’s ascension as divine and the choice of the masses, prayed for peace, unity and development during his reign.

On the entourage of Mr. Tinubu were other members of the management team including the Assistant Director of Marketing, Mrs. Kemi Oni, the Manager News, Mr. Akintuji Akinleye and the Manager Programmes, Mr. Abayomi Adewale.

The acting Zonal Director, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mrs Bolanle Owoyemi wants the staff of the corporation to make their impact felt on the society through dedication to work.

Mrs Owoyemi who gave the advice during a visit to Radio Nigeria, Paramount FM Abeokuta, emphasized the need for the staff members to always promote joy and unity in their interactions with the public, colleagues and the management. 

She stressed that as stakeholders, the staff must strive to make a difference by ensuring the better performance of the station.

The acting zonal director commended workers in the engineering department of the station for their ingenious efforts to keep the station on air despite the challenges and assured that the management would do the needful in providing the necessary logistics. 

Earlier the General Manager, Radio Nigeria Paramount FM, Abeokuta, Alhaji Adeniyi Odekunle, thanked the acting ZD for her interventions which had transmitted to improved transmission and other positive changes at the station.

Alhaji Odekunle equally solicited the continued support of the management to enhance the station’s efforts to bridge the information gap between the leaders and the people, especially those at the grassroots.

The National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, says it would enhance its sensitization campaign to create more awareness on dangers embedded in human trafficking.

Osun State Zonal Commander of the agency, Mr Mustapha Ajara stated this in Osogbo while playing host to the management of Radio Nigeria, Gold FM, Ilesa.

Mr Ajara who noted that the agency would continue to adopt measures for eradication of trafficking in person, said the agency had convicted many offenders of the crime.

The state commander solicited the assistance of the media organization in the area sensitization and campaign so as to reduce incident of trafficking in the state.

He called on relevant stakeholders in the state to continue to support the agency with useful information to enhance its operations.

In a remark, the General Manager, Gold FM Ilesa, Mr Damola Tinubu lauded the agency for its ingenuity in eradicating trafficking in the state, saying trafficking was inhuman and unacceptable in a civilized society.

Mr Tinubu assured the agency of the readiness of Gold FM to collaborate with the agency in the area of publicity, campaign and sensitization.

The General Manager, Gold FM, Ilesa, Mr Adedamola Tinubu says broadcasting industry is key to socioeconomic and political development of the nation.

Mr Tinubu stated this in Osogbo when he paid a visit to the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of Rave FM, Mr Femi Adefila in his office.

The General Manager who noted radio stations in the state should not see themselves as competitors but partners for the good of the society.

He lauded Rave FM for the promotion of professionalism and urged the station to sustain the tempo.

In a remark, the CEO of Rave FM, Mr Femi Adefila who said Radio Nigeria remained the flagship of broadcasting in Nigeria extolled the virtues of the station in the area of training and retraining of its workforce.

Mr Adefila however called for a synergy between radio stations in the state for collective bargaining and promotion of common interest.

The Owa Obokun of Ijesa Land, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran, has described Radio Nigeria’s Gold FM as an apolitical media outfit that God has planted in Ijesaland to promote culture, unity and development.

Oba Adekunle Aromolaran stated this when the management of the station led by the new General Manager, Mr Adedamola Tinubu paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.

Owners of Online Radio Broadcast Services and their on-air personalities have been challenged to be professional in their operations. 

General Manager, Premier FM Ibadan, Rev Niyi Dahunsi gave the advice in Ibadan while presenting a paper at the first anniversary of an Online Radio Service, Maranatha Radio International. 

Reverend Dahunsi who recalled the evolution of Radio Broadcasting in Nigeria from analog to digital in recent times explained that anchors of programmes on Maranatha Online Radio must endeavour to prioritize standardization, training and cordial relationship with its target audience to remain relevant. 

He identified some of the advantages of Online Radio to include easy accessibility, wider coverage and opportunity for job creation, saying such merits should be leveraged upon to affect people positively. 

Earlier, the Chief Executive Officer of Maranatha Online Radio International and presiding bishop, Maranatha Lord Cometh Ministries International, Bishop Samuel Alawode said the service over the last one year had reached 52 nations of the world.
