The quartet of Gafar Badmus, Tosin Adeloye, Samson Nathaniel and Toheebat Jimoh have won a gold for Ogun State in the 4×400 mixed relay at the ongoing National Sports Festival tagged “Gateway Games 2024”.

They cross the finish line in a time of 3:20.65, Team Edo finished 2nd in the race with a time of 3:23.41, while Team Lagos got on the podium in the event, finishing with the Bronze medal in a time of 3:24.36

Speaking with Journalists after the race at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Abeokuta, the Coach of the team , Saheed Akinpelu, applauded the athletes for the feat achieved.

Coach Akinpelu attributed the victory to dedication and hard work, adding that the camping exercise by the state government also assist the athletes.

He expressed optimism that more gold medals would still be won by the state , saying that the athletes had worked and prayed.

Omolola Akinsanmi has won gold medal for Ogun State in the 800 freestyle women swimming event at the ongoing National Sports Festival which took place at the newly constructed swimming pool, MKO Abiola Sports Arena, Kuto, Abeokuta.

The young swimmer, who recently returned from the United Kingdom to compete for her home state, expressed excitement for winning the gold medal in the swimming event .

She commended the entire coaching crew for their support and encouragement which she said earned her the gold medal.

Speaking on the feat recorded the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Chief Bukola Olopade said it was the first time in almost 40 years that Ogun State would be winning a gold medal in swimming in any category.

Chief Olopade said there was the need for stakeholders, administrators and parents to rise to challenge of supporting the young swimmers that would represent the country at international competitions.
