The Nigeria Under-17 side, the Golden Eaglets, has defeated Team Kaduna 2-nil in the third-place match of the male football event at the ongoing National Sports Festival, NSF.

The Golden Eaglets who are also referred to as the Invited Junior Athletes, IJA, who lost to Team Ogun State in the semi-finals of the competition, went home with the bronze medal.

In the female category, goals from Damilola Adeyanju and Itunuoluwa Odediya in the first half of the match played at Remo Stars Stadium gave Team Ogun the victory over Team Osun to win the bronze medal.

The final matches in the football event of the festival will be played at the newly renovated MKO Abiola Sports Arena, beginning from 4 PM.

Ogun State team will battle Kwara State in the male category, while the Flamingos will take on Delta State in the female category.

In Handball, Edo State defeated Kogi State by 32 goals to 20 to win the bronze in the female category.

In Abula, Oyo State defeated Bayelsa State to win gold in the women’s category, Team Oyo also recorded a gold medal in the male hockey event after defeating Kaduna State in the final.

Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will today play Burkina Faso in the quarter-finals of the Under 17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON tournament in Algeria.

The match will kick off at eight o’clock tonight.

A win for Nigeria will not only qualify them for the semi-final of the tournament but also secure their place in the world cup.

At five o’clock in the evening, Mali will play Congo.

Yesterday, Host Nation Algeria was eliminated from the tournament after losing 3 nil to Morocco.

Senegal also thrashed South Africa 5-0 to qualify for the semi-finals.

Golden Eaglets of Nigeria yesterday came from behind twice to secure a 3-2 victory over South Africa in their final Group B match at the ongoing Under 17 African cup of Nations, AFCON tournament in Algeria.

Nigeria went behind in the sixth minute courtesy of a Vicky Mkhawana’s strike.

Though, Charles Agada scored for Nigeria in 34th minute to level the game, South Africa went ahead for the second time in the game when Siyabonga Mabena scored at the stroke of halftime.

However, less than a minute into the second half, Light Eke scored for Nigeria to make it 2-2, before Abubakar Abdullahi scored in the 64th minute to earn Nigeria a 3-2 win and the advance to the knockout stages of the tournament.

In the other game played yesterday, Zambia defeated Morocco by 2 goals to 1.

Meanwhile, the only match for today will see Burkina Faso tackle Cameroon by 8PM.

Golden Eaglets of Nigeria yesterday lost their second game of the ongoing Under 17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON tournament in Algeria.

The Nigerian contingents were condemned to a 1-nil defeat to Morocco, who sits top of Group B with 6 points.

Nigeria remains in second position in the group with 3 points.

In the other game, South Africa registered their first win in the tournament with a 3-2 victory over Zambia.

Meanwhile, the only match for today will see Cameroon battle Mali at five o’clock in the evening.

Senegal continued their flying start to the 2023 Under 17 African cup of Nations, AFCON tournament with an emphatic 3 – 0 victory over Host Nation Algeria.

Mamadou Savane scored an hat-trick as the Senegalese team demolished Algeria on Tuesday to go top of Group A with 6 points.

In the other Group A game played on Tuesday, Congo and Somalia played out a 1 – 1 draw to remain winless in two games.

Meanwhile, Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will be in action on Wednesday when they take on Morocco in their second Group B match.

The match will kick off at five o’clock in the evening.

Also, Zambia and South Africa will lock horns together in the other Group B match at eight o’clock tonight.

Golden Eaglets of Nigeria started their 2023 Under-17 African Cup of Nations, AFCON campaign with a 1-0 win over Zambia.

The match played yesterday at the Mohamed-Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine, Algeria, saw forward Favour Daniel score the only goal of the game in the 76th minute to earn Nigeria all 3 points in their opening match.

In other matches played yesterday, Senegal also defeated Congo 1 nil, while Morocco beat South Africa by 2 goals to nil.

The tournament continues today with Mali taking on Burkina Faso at eight o’clock tonight.
