Oyo State Government has vowed not to compromise its stand on free qualitative and basic education in the state.

The State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde made the pledge while playing host to the body of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, led by their chairman, Samson Adedoyin during a courtesy call to the Governor’s office at Agodi, Ibadan.

He said that the present administration was exploring more avenues to sustain the gains recorded in the education sector. 

Governor Makinde urged the NUT to utilise judiciously the running grant earmarked for the smooth running of the schools. adding that their demands would be looked into and make amends where necessary.

Earlier, the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Oyo State Chapter, Prince Samson Adedoyin eulogised the commitment of Engineer Makinde led administration to standard education stipulated by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation by allotting 22% of the 2020 budget to the Education Sector.

Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the South-West have converged in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital to chart a way forward ahead of Ondo state governorship election and the 2023 general elections.

Leaders of the party in the South West who spoke during the meeting harped on the unity of the party.

Chairman of PDP, South-West zone, Dr Eddy Olafeso, commended the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, Chief Bode George, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and other faithful party members for their total loyalty to the party.

Dr Olafeso urged the party faithful not to rest on their oars, rather, they should prepare for the 2023 race.

In a remark, the host, Governor Seyi Makinde promised to continue to work for the unity of the party to ensure that PDP keeps waxing stronger in the region.

The two-hour meeting had in attendance the former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Ayodele Fayose, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Sen. Kofo Bucknor Akerele, former Deputy Governor of Osun State and former Minister of State for Defence, Erelu Olusola Obada, former PDP South-West Vice Chairman, Chief Olabode George, Dr Saka Balogun, and Alhaja Bosede Adedibu
