Ekiti State Government has distributed over one hundred and twenty eight million naira to nineteen Communities for various developmental projects.

Some of the benefiting communities are Eporo, Erinmope, Igbole, Ikere, Isan, Ijero, Ilawe, Abaiyamedi and others which all cut across all the three senatorial districts in Ekiti State.

Distributing the cheques in Ado-Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi said the gesture was aimed at putting adequate infrastructure in place across rural communities and also put smiles on the faces of the people.

Dr. Fayemi also announced about five different projects worth five hundred million dollars which were to be executed in the state by the World Bank.

The governor however warned that government would not tolerate any shoddy job from contractors.

The spokespersons for the benefiting communities, Chief Gbenga from Ilawe Ekiti Agbona and Mr. Bayo Alu from Erinmope Ekiti appreciated the Governor’s gesture and promised to monitor all government projects in their domains.

Ekiti State Government says it will henceforth prosecute parents who refused to enroll their children in schools.

Governor Kayode Fayemi announced this during the sensitization programme on school enrolment in Eporo, Emure Local Government Area of the state.

The Governor stressed that since the state’s Child’s Right law provided that all children must be given access to education, parents must enroll their children and wards in schools. 

Dr. Fayemi who called on all parents and guardians to key into the free education programme of the government, said education was not only free but compulsory in Ekiti State. 

The governor directed the State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB, to commence necessary enrolment to ensure that all children of school age register for the 2019/2020 academic session. 

Earlier, the Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Francisca Aladejana urged parents to patronise public schools, promising that government would always provide a conducive environment for proper teaching and learning. 

Also, the South West Zonal Coordinator of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Mrs. Roseline Madubi called on religious and political leaders to sensitive the people on importance of school enrolment.

President Muhammadu Buhari has challenged Universities in Nigeria to play leading role in proffering solution to social, economic and security problems across the country.

President Buhari gave the challenge at the second combined convocation ceremony of the Federal University Oye Ekiti, FUOYE.

About 17million Naira bursary allowance has been approved for 113 indigenes of Ekiti State currently in six campuses of the Nigeria Law Schools across the country.

Governor Kayode Fayemi announced this in Ado Ekiti at the commencement of the screening for the law students who would benefit from the bursary.

Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Mr Foluso Daramola, the Governor said the bursary was aimed at encouraging the students in law schools to give them sense of belong.

According to Governor Fayemi, the screening was to confirm those that were qualified for the bursary as contained in the lists sent by the Council for Legal Education

In remark, the Acting Executive Secretary Ekiti State Scholarship Board, Mr. Sola Ogunmiluyi noted that government would continue to promote academic excellence and urged philanthropists to complement government efforts by giving bursary to indigenes.

Some of the law students at the venue of the screening thanked the state government for the gesture which they said would reduce their financial burden.

Radio Nigeria gathered that the screening exercise will end tomorrow where the beneficiaries would be announced.

Traditional rulers in Ekiti state have been advised to shun utterances capable of causing ethnic rivalry and violence among their subjects to ensure peace in the state.

Governor Kayode Fayemi gave the advice today while swearing ceremony of the new chairman of the reconstituted council of Traditional Rulers in Ekiti state, the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi.

The Governor who expressed concern over the comments of some royal fathers on the appointment of the new chairman, noted that the emergence of Alawe was done in compliance with the chieftaincy law of Ekiti state.

Governor Fayemi who urged the new chairman of the Council of Obas to unite members, stressed the need for traditional rulers to assist government to promote peace in their communities since they remain the custodian of culture and traditions.

Earlier, the Chairman Ekiti State Chieftancy Review Committee and Deputy Governor Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi said government action was in line with the constitution and asked other royal fathers to support the chairman. 

Responding, the chairman of the reconstituted council of traditional rulers and Alawe of Ilawe Oba Adebanji Alabi promised to unite members of the council and support the present administration.

Radio Nigeria correspondent report that some notable first class monarchs were absent at the ceremony, having approached the Ekiti state High Court to challenge the appointment of Oba Adebanji Alabi as the chairman of Council of Traditional Rulers in Ekiti state.
