Worried by the growing state of insecurity in the country, especially as the 2023 general election approaches, a member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Shina Peller, who also doubles as the Ayedero of Yorubaland, has begun peace tour across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Peller started the peace tour from Minna, Niger state, where he met with the elderstateman and former Head of state, Retired General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), in his countryhome and Emir of Minna, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Faruq Bahago (CON), in his palace.

It would be recalled that on Thursday, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife had both mandated Chief Peller, in his capacity as Ayedero of Yorubaland, to embark on peace tour across the six geopolitical zones to mobilize the youth, traditional rulers and notable personalities against violence and insecurity ahead of 2023 general election.

Speaking with journalists in Minna shortly after he had met with the former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, Peller explained that the need to promote peace and prosperity in the land, especially in states that have been badly hit by banditry and insecurity, necessitated the peace tour. He added that the former Head of state was impressed about the peace tour which he described as a commendable initiative that will yield fruitfully.

Also at the palace of Emir of Minna, Peller, accompanied by His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, who was represented by His Royal Majesty, Asoya of Isoya, Ile Ife, Oba Muraina Adedini and delegates, noted that there is need to leverage on the influence of traditional institutions in addressing the country’s insecurity problem.

In addition, the Ayedero of Yorubaland observed that being the heads of their ethnic group, clan or community, traditional rulers’ roles in conflict management and resolution as well as ensuring that peace reigns in the land cannot be overemphasized.

“Your Royal Highness, we know that your words are laws to the people, and that your opinions and advice on issues always count. This is why we have come to you to help us intensify your efforts in ensuring that peace reigns in our land.” The Ayedero also donated 50 bags of rice to the Emir to help distribute to the needy.

In his reaction, the Emir of Minna expressed his gratitude to Ayedero of Yorubaland for the peace tour initiative and assured him of his total support.

” The Ayedero peace tour is a welcome initiative, and on behalf of the entire members of the Emirate, we commend your efforts and pray that God strengthens you,” the Emir of Minna said.

In a similar development, Chief Shina Peller also seized the opportunity to address a group of young people under the aegis of Shina Peller Youth Network, Niger State Chapter, on the need for them to be advocates of peace.

He also enjoined them to take part in the political process that produces who their leaders are by equipping themselves with party’s membership cards and PVCs.

The statement read:

“I rejoice with fellow Muslim brothers and sisters both home and abroad on the occasion of this year Eid al-Adha celebration.

“As we probably know, Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his only son, Ismail, to God in fulfilment of his promise and as an act of obedience to God’s command.

“As Mulsims, today is a pious day for us all, and so we should leverage on it to seek God’s forgiveness, mercy and to pray fervently for peace to reign in our dear country.

“Also, as we pray for peace to reign, we should remember that Islam preaches peaceful coexistence of mankind, and so we should always be tolerant of others irrespective of their religious, political and ethnic beliefs.

“In the same vein, we shouldn’t forget that for our country and the world at large to be peaceful, we have to play our part individually by treating others the way we will like to be treated. Don’t say or do unto others what you cannot take.

“I pray that Allah accepts our prayers, bless us with good health, wealth and makes us successful in all our endeavours, Ameen.

“Once again, Eid Mubarak to us all.”
