A member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Shina Peller has called on the Muslim faithful to leverage the holy month of Ramadan to pray for Nigeria.

Peller made the call via his social media platforms whilst he was congratulating Muslims on the commencement of Ramadan.

He also observed that the Ramadan period was an opportunity for Muslims to purify their mind, body and soul.

Similarly, the federal legislator argued that most of the challenges that Nigeria was confronted with are attributed to system failure.

He added that in addressing this, it was the duty of every patriotic Nigerian to take part in the rebuilding process of Nigeria, which he said required creating a new functional system that would make the existing one obsolete.

He wrote: “I wish every one of us a blessed Ramadan as fasting begins. Importantly, we must remember that Ramadan presents to us an opportunity to purify our mind, body and soul as well as an opportunity to pray for our dear country, Nigeria.”

“Our country is suffering from system failure but God didn’t create Nigeria to fail, our country is blessed with so many natural and human capital resources, so we have no reason to fail. What is required for us at this Holy Month of Ramadan is to pray to God to guide us aright especially in electing the right leaders as the 2023 general election beckons.”

“As a patriotic citizen, I can’t pretend that all is well with our country presently, truly within the last 3 decades Nigeria has been confronted with so many challenges which are all attributed to symptoms of a system failure, and this is what we all have to address. Our founding fathers didn’t build Nigeria for Nigerians alone, but Nigeria for the whole of Africa! With all the resources that God has blessed us with, what genuine excuse do we have not to make Nigeria work? What excuse do we have not to function as a giant of Africa that we are meant to be?”

“Don’t misunderstand me, I’m not trying to blame anyone in particular for the system failure. In fact, this is not the time for blame game, it is the time to come together as Nigerians and pray purposefully for our country; it is the time to do the needful by participating in the rebuilding process of our dear country. In doing so, we need to create a new functional system that will make the existing one obsolete, and this is a task that we all must be willing to carry out. Once again, let’s seize the opportunity of the Holy Month to pray for Nigeria. Ramadan Mubarak!”.

Worried by the growing state of insecurity in the country, especially as the 2023 general election approaches, a member of the House of Representatives representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency, Shina Peller, who also doubles as the Ayedero of Yorubaland, has begun peace tour across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

Peller started the peace tour from Minna, Niger state, where he met with the elderstateman and former Head of state, Retired General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB), in his countryhome and Emir of Minna, His Royal Highness Alhaji Umar Faruq Bahago (CON), in his palace.

It would be recalled that on Thursday, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo and His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, Ooni of Ife had both mandated Chief Peller, in his capacity as Ayedero of Yorubaland, to embark on peace tour across the six geopolitical zones to mobilize the youth, traditional rulers and notable personalities against violence and insecurity ahead of 2023 general election.

Speaking with journalists in Minna shortly after he had met with the former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, Peller explained that the need to promote peace and prosperity in the land, especially in states that have been badly hit by banditry and insecurity, necessitated the peace tour. He added that the former Head of state was impressed about the peace tour which he described as a commendable initiative that will yield fruitfully.

Also at the palace of Emir of Minna, Peller, accompanied by His Imperial Majesty, the Ooni of Ife, who was represented by His Royal Majesty, Asoya of Isoya, Ile Ife, Oba Muraina Adedini and delegates, noted that there is need to leverage on the influence of traditional institutions in addressing the country’s insecurity problem.

In addition, the Ayedero of Yorubaland observed that being the heads of their ethnic group, clan or community, traditional rulers’ roles in conflict management and resolution as well as ensuring that peace reigns in the land cannot be overemphasized.

“Your Royal Highness, we know that your words are laws to the people, and that your opinions and advice on issues always count. This is why we have come to you to help us intensify your efforts in ensuring that peace reigns in our land.” The Ayedero also donated 50 bags of rice to the Emir to help distribute to the needy.

In his reaction, the Emir of Minna expressed his gratitude to Ayedero of Yorubaland for the peace tour initiative and assured him of his total support.

” The Ayedero peace tour is a welcome initiative, and on behalf of the entire members of the Emirate, we commend your efforts and pray that God strengthens you,” the Emir of Minna said.

In a similar development, Chief Shina Peller also seized the opportunity to address a group of young people under the aegis of Shina Peller Youth Network, Niger State Chapter, on the need for them to be advocates of peace.

He also enjoined them to take part in the political process that produces who their leaders are by equipping themselves with party’s membership cards and PVCs.

A member of the House of Representatives from Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Oyo State, Mr Shina Peller has called on all Nigerians never to give up on the country notwithstanding the numerous challenges the nation may be battling with even at 60.

Mr Peller made this call in an official statement issued by his media office on 1st October 2020 on the occasion of Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary, where he also maintained that the country’s strength lies in her diversity which must be leveraged on.

The statement read in full:

“I felicitate with fellow compatriots on the occasion of Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary which is very significant to our existence as a sovereign nation.”

“At our 60th Independence Anniversary, it is true that we are still confronted with so many challenges such as insecurity, high rate of unemployment, economic volatility, corruption and many others. However, we still have so much to be hopeful for as a country especially our huge natural and human capital resource potential and our ever enduring and resilient and creative citizens.”

“Fellow compatriots, we must not give up on Nigeria, it is our country. Nobody will come from outside to build the Nigeria of our dreams, we must do it ourselves bearing in mind that we are a nation of huge potential, notwithstanding our challenges.”

“Also, we should know that in our diversity lies our strength, and so we should leverage on this rather than allow it to tear us apart.”

“In the same vein, we shouldn’t forget that we are first and foremost Nigerians before we are Muslims or Christians, Igbos or Hausas, Fulanis or Yorubas. Therefore, the interest of the country must always come first.”

“Furthermore, the political class must consider future generations when making decisions. We should build for the coming generations a Nigeria that they will be very proud of.”

“It is clear that it is time for a paradigm shift, we need a new crop of leaders. That is why I actively support creative ideas like the Lead Generation Initiative (LGI), a non-governmental organization which is committed to providing opportunities for a new generation of leaders for the purpose of rebuilding Nigeria through the next decade and beyond.”

“Importantly, the youth need to get involved in politics right from the ward level up to the national level. We can’t continue to lament endlessly about the maladministration of our country, it is high time we took charge. We must be the change we seek.”
