US Announces Delegation to Tinubu Inauguration

President Joe Biden of the United States, has announced the delegation that will attend the inauguration of the 16th President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu on May 29 at Eagle Square, Abuja.

Ahead of the inauguration, Biden, in a statement released on the White House website on Monday night, announced a nine-member delegation for the event.

The US delegation will be led by Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Marcia L. Fudge.

The members of the Presidential Delegation of Biden include: 

Mr. David Greene, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., U.S. Embassy Abuja

The Honorable Sydney Kamlager-Dove, United States Representative (D), California

The Honorable Marisa Lago, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, U.S. Department of Commerce

General Michael E. Langley, Commander of U.S. Africa Command

The Honorable Enoh T. Ebong, Director, U.S. Trade and Development Agency

The Honorable Mary Catherine Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of African Affairs, U.S. Department of State

The Honorable Judd Devermont, Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for African Affairs, National Security Council

The Honorable Monde Muyangwa, Assistant Administrator for the Bureau for Africa, U.S. Agency for International Development.

Also expected at the nation’s seventh transition ceremony are past presidents, diplomats, heads of international organisations and prominent Nigerians and representatives of foreign governments and agencies.

The inauguration programmes will begin on Thursday with the investiture of Tinubu with the Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic and the Vice-President-elect, Kashim Shettima, as the Grand Commander of Order of the Niger.

Representatives of Nigeria’s traditional allies such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, China, Germany, Finland, Jamaica, Japan, Israel, Turkey and several others are expected at the high-profile event.

May 29: Osun NOA Embarks on Peace Campaign Ahead of Inauguration

The need for Nigerians to sustain peace and tranquility in the nation irrespective of religion, tribe, and Political affiliation to achieve a smooth transition process has been stressed. 

Osun State Director, National Orientation Agency, Mrs Kikelomo Ahmed stated this during an advocacy visit on peacebuilding to foster stabilization to some stakeholders, ahead of the May 29th transition of power from President Muhammadu Buhari to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. 

Doctor Garba Abari who was represented by the National Director of the Agency, Osun State, Mrs Kikelomo Ahmed, described this period as a crucial one for the nation hence the need to sustain the existing peace to attain improved growth and development. 

She stressed that the role of traditional and religious leaders in maintaining Peace in Society could not be overemphasized. 

Osun NOA Boss explained that the Constitution gives room for any aggrieved individual or group of persons to seek redress in court as regards the outcome of the 2023 General Polls rather than embarking on act that could jeopardize the nation’s Democracy. 

Mrs. Ahmed who called on Stakeholders to caution their followers on the need for the Nation to remain a single unified entity emphasized that ethnic groups across the country were interconnected. 

In his response, The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja the second represented by the Obalufe of Ile- ife, Oba Idowu Adediwura said Traditional rulers who were custodians of the Custom of the Land would not relent at ensuring the sustainability of peace in Ife and Nigeria as a whole. 

Oba Adediwura who noted that Government should prioritize more on the welfare of Traditional Rulers commended the National Orientation Agency, NOA in its efforts at promoting peaceful co-existence among the Citizens. 

Also in his contribution, The Grand Imam of Osun State, Sheik Musa Animashahun represented by Grand Muphashiru of Osun State, Imam Abdulateef Abajaoro expressed their readiness to support those in position of Authority with prayers. 

Meanwhile, in his response to the Agency’s visit, the Chairman, the Osun State Christian Association of Nigeria, OS-CAN, Reverend John Adeleke encouraged Nigerians to maintain peace and shun all forms of violence. 

While urging Nigerians to support Public Office Holders, Reverend Adeleke appealed to them to serve the people genuinely rather than gathering wealth for unproductive purposes.
