John Obaro Donates 5,000-Seat Hall to McPherson University

McPherson University in Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, has inaugurated a 5,000-seat multipurpose hall donated by founder of the technology firm, Information Software Products Limited, Dr. John Obaro.

President of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, FGCN, (the body that established the university), Reverend Randy Remington, commissioned the hall on the school’s campus situated at Kilometre 75, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Reverend Remington described the facility as an investment that would positively impact generations and commended Mr Obaro for his contribution.

General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Reverend Sam Aboyeji, expressed his appreciation for the donor’s timely intervention.

Reverend Aboyeji noted that inaugurating completed landmark projects was a key part of his mandate.

The Pro-Chancellor of the university, Dr. Babatunde Idowu, described the hall as “marvelous” and praised Dr. Obaro as a man “who thought beyond himself.”

Dr. Idowu also indicated that more similar infrastructure projects are slated for inauguration at the school.

The donor, Dr. John Obaro, explained that he dedicated the multipurpose hall to his parents, Stephen and Hannah Obaro.

He credited their commitment to educating their six children as the force that transformed his life.

In his welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Igbasan, commended Dr. Obaro’s gesture.

He stated that the hall would serve as a venue for intellectual engagement, talent nurturing, spiritual rebirth, and other events, providing a conducive environment for students to thrive.

Professor Igbasan detailed that the facility is designed to host conferences, lectures, performances, matriculation, and graduation ceremonies.

He also noted that five other projects at the university still require financial support from the public.

The event concluded with prayers for the new building and special songs rendered for the institution.

Titan of Business & Integrity, Christopher Kolade Dies at 93

Distinguished broadcaster, corporate leader, diplomat, and teacher, Dr Christopher Kolade has passed on peacefully early on Thursday.

He was 93.

He was born in 1932 in Erin-Oke, Osun State.

Dr Kolade completed his secondary education at Government College, Ibadan and then studied at Fourah Bay College in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

He began his career as a colonial-era education officer, then later worked as a broadcaster and rose to become the Director General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation.

In the corporate world, he was the Chief Executive and Chairman of Cadbury Nigeria Plc.

Dr Kolade also served as the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

As an educator, he taught corporate governance and human resources management at the Lagos Business School.

He also taught leadership and conflict management at the School of Media & Communication.

Both schools are part of Pan-Atlantic University in Lagos.

He was a member of the university’s Governing Council and also served as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Pan-Atlantic University as of 2012.

Additionally, he was the Chancellor of McPherson University in Ogun State.

Dr. Kolade was a prominent advocate for business integrity and championed this cause through his chairmanship of the Integrity Organisation Ltd GTE and The Convention on Business Integrity Ltd GTE.

FRCN Management Team Visits McPherson University

There is an end in sight to issues when a university community tailors its programmes towards solving the challenges confronting society.

The Vice-Chancellor, McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State, Professor Francis Igbasan stated this while receiving the Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Dominic Mokikan and top management staff of the corporation on a working visit to the university campus.

Professor Igbasan who gave the McPherson University success experiences explained that the twelve-year-old faith-based private university had groomed solution providers equipped with technology and entrepreneurial skills while emphasising that partnership with Radio Nigeria would further skill up the students for optimum performance.

The Vice-Chancellor was joined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olatunji Okesola, Acting Registrar, Mr Olufemi Adebowale, Bursar, Mr Ademola Osanyinro and the University Librarian, Dr Abiola Omotoso noted that the school which had produced seven graduating sets runs twenty-four academic programmes fully accredited by the National Universities Commission, NUC, and professional bodies, adding that its unique selling point was the flexible payment system with four installments to beat the current economic realities.

On his part, the Zonal Director of Radio Nigeria Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Dominic Mokikan commended the VC and his team for incubating solution providers whose skills would turn around the Nigerian society.

Mr Mokikan noted that continued synergy between the town and gown would ameliorate common problems confronting the masses.

The high point of the visit was the tour of the colleges and departments of the institution including the university library, Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, as well as the water factory site by the university team, the visiting Zonal Director and his entourage among whom were the Deputy Director Programmes, Reverend Niyi Dahunsi, Deputy Director Marketing, Mr Wale Afinjuomo, Head of Engineering, Mrs Ibiyemi Obadina and Head of Administration, Reverend Adebayo Eso.
