The Rotary Club of Ibadan has pledged to refurbish the clinic at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, as part of efforts to expand its humanitarian services across Oyo State.

During an assessment visit to the facility, the President of Rotary Club of Ibadan, Elebu Metropolis, and Chairman, Forum of Presidents, Rotary Clubs, Ibadan, Mr Adewale Adesina, said FRCN deserved a standard clinic considering its strategic location and its consistent service to Nigerians.

Mr Adesina added that, upon completion, the upgraded clinic would cater not only to staff of FRCN Ibadan but also to residents of the Dugbe community and its environs.

In his remarks, the President, Rotary Club of Ibadan, Mr Olufisayo Ogunbiyi, described the initiative as the beginning of more collaborative projects between the Rotary Club and FRCN Ibadan.

He stressed that the club remains committed to improving the quality of life in the society.

While expressing appreciation for the proposed project, the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan, Mr Olufemi Fulani, represented by the Deputy Director, Programmes, Reverend Niyi Dahunsi, commended the Rotary Club for its continued contributions to humanitarian development.

Mr Fulani said FRCN Ibadan would continue to promote and publicise the activities and programmes of the Rotary Club to enhance awareness and benefit more Nigerians.

The Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade has expressed determination of his ministry to collaborate with The Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan to further project the activities and achievements of the state government for better understanding by members of the public.

Prince Oyelade stated this during a visit by the management of FRCN to his office, ministry of information, secretariat, in Ibadan.

The commissioner noted that the two institutions had an age long history of existence adding that the coming together for collaboration is apt and timely.

Pince Oyelade said Oyo state had made laudable achievements in terms of road network rehabilitation within and outside Ibadan, recruitments of over 2,000 workers to complement state workforce and improvement of security in the state through the procurement of 287 patrol vehicles complemented by 2,471 motorbikes.

Prince Oyelade said FRCN also possesses staff training institutions in broadcast journalism which he said would equally be useful to his ministry.

Earlier in his address, the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal station, Mr Olufemi Fulani said his visit to the commissioner was meant to seek areas of collaboration with the vision of propagating the landmark progress made by the governor Seyi Makinde’s administration in Oyo State.

Mr Fulani said Radio Nigeria through its FM stations spread across the Southwest zone was in a better position to project Oyo State to the general public within and outside the state.

On the entourage of the zonal director during the visit were, Deputy Director news and current affairs department, FRCN, Ibadan zonal station , Mr Adewumi Faniran, Deputy Director of Finance, FRCN,Ibadan zonal station, Mr James Amole, head of internal audit FRCN Ibadan, Mrs Elizabeth Dada and her counterpart Head of Corporate Development and Communication, Mr Steve Agbaje.

Association of Women Town Planners, Oyo State Chapter, has sought collaboration with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station to educate the public on the procedure of lands and property acquisition as well as planning.

The indication emerged when executive members of the association, paid a courtesy call on the Zonal Director of FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Olufemi Fulani. 

Led by the Chairperson of the Association, Mrs Ibiyinka Oladiran explained that collaborating with the station would enable the body to achieve its objectives.

Mrs Oladiran  congratulated the new Zonal Director, FRCN,lbadan, on his appointment saying  the association believed in the power of Radio Nigeria as a credible broadcasting platform.

Responding, the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr Olufemi Fulani,who appreciated the Women’s Forum for the visit, pledged that the station’s readiness to support the association’s mandate. 

Mr Fulani urged  the Association to sustain its good name in the society, irrespective of the challenges facing the profession, saying the Association should not hesitate to bring any of its sponsored programmes to the station. 

Highpoint of the visit was presentation of gift by the Association of Women Town Planners to the Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station.

A group known as Friends of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, has expressed its readiness to support the new Zonal Director, Mr. Olufemi Fulani, in addressing the lingering power challenges confronting the station.

The group, comprising retired management staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria ,FRCN,Ibadan Zonal Station, made this known during its inaugural meeting held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists ,NUJ, Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan.

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the group, Mr. Ademola Afolabi, congratulated the newly appointed Zonal Director and empathised with him over the enormous challenges facing the station.

Mr. Afolabi, who retired as Director of News at FRCN Headquarters, maintained that Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, which has moulded numerous professional journalists across the country, must not be left alone to confront its current challenges.

He advised members of staff of Radio Nigeria, Ibadan, to remain committed and disciplined, and to discharge their duties diligently, regardless of the present condition of the organisation.

In the same vein, the Vice Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Kola Animasaun, a retired Deputy Director of Marketing, Ibadan, and former General Manager of Positive FM, Akure, said members of the committee had benefited immensely during their years of active service in FRCN. 

He noted that it behoves them to give the necessary support to restore the station to its enviable status.

Reacting, the new Zonal Director, FRCN Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Olufemi Fulani, appreciated the unwavering support and commitment of the group.

Mr. Fulani highlighted measures taken by the management of the corporation to find a permanent solution to the power challenges to include exploring alternative energy sources, consultations with philanthropic individuals and corporate organisations, among other initiatives.

He explained that the current power outage was caused by accumulated electricity bills occasioned by high tariffs and other related issues.

Other members of the group who were present at the meeting  and also expressed their support included retired Director, FRCN New Media, Pastor Dare Olurunfemi; retired Deputy Director, News and Current Affairs, Mr. Tunde Abiodun; retired General Manager, Positive FM Akure, Deacon Femi Oladipo; Principal Technical Officer, Mr. Femi Ilori; Chief Technical Officer ,Studios,, Mr. Samuel Taiwo; and Controller of Marketing, Mr. Bayo Kumuyi.

It is almost a month now that the station had been grappling with the problem of power supply among numerous challenges bedevelling it for decades.

Despite the challenges, It has however not reneged in its mandate of fulfilling its mandate to the public by being the voice for the voiceless, having the courage and hope to surmount its own challenges.

 The Society for Animal Rights Protection, in Oyo state has expressed readiness to sustain its collaboration with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, to strengthen public awareness on the protection of animals.

 The President, Society for Animal Rights Protection, Oyo state chapter, Dr Ibikunle Faramade stated this during a courtesy visit  by the members of the society to the management of FRCN, Ibadan Zonal station.

Dr Faramade explained that the society has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with  Radio Nigeria in view of the outstanding and excellent operational standards in the nation’s media landscape.

While urging radio Nigeria to continue to maintain it’s flagship position, Dr Faramade said the society needed to partner FRCN so as to achieve the vision of keeping the rights of animals

Reacting, the Zonal Director, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal station, Mr Olufemi Fulani condemned the disposition of Nigerians to  domestic and wildlife animals saying constant campaigns is required to change the narrative; hence, the readiness of FRCN to partner the society.

Mr Fulani commended the society for considering animal  rights protection and urged them to continue with the vision.

Following the retirement of the immediate past Zonal Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, the official hand – over of the management of the corporation has taken place at the Conference Room, Broadcasting House, Dugbe, Ibadan.

The official handing over of leadership from the immediate past Zonal Director of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Ibadan Zonal Station, Mr. Dominic Mokikan, to the new Zonal Director, Mr. Olufemi Fulani. 

The ceremony, which was attended by members of the Committee of Management of the corporation in the station, depicted the saying that: “transitions are bridges, connecting the wisdom of the past with the promise of the future, and that “true leadership lies not in holding on but in passing the baton with grace,” 

Addressing members of management, Mr. Mokikan said the handing over was in line with the established due process of the corporation.

He noted that although the Ibadan Zonal Station was yet to attain its desired operational capacity, it would achieve the expected standard in due course.

Mr. Mokikan appealed to members of staff to accord the new Zonal Director the same cooperation and support he enjoyed during his tenure.

In his response, the new Zonal Director, Mr. Olufemi Fulani, who reflected on his early professional experience at the Ibadan Zonal Station, alongside postings in Edo, Ondo, Lagos, Ogun and Abuja, described Ibadan as a solid foundation for a young journalist.

Mr. Fulani appealed to members of the management team to support him in moving the corporation to greater heights.

The ceremony featured a solidarity birthday song in honour of the immediate past Zonal Director.

Thereafter, the management team, led by the new Zonal Director, proceeded to a closed-door meeting, where Mr. Fulani urged staff to upscale their performance efficiency for the smooth running of the corporation.
