Olaiya Flyover: Due Diligence Responsible For Slow Pace Of Work – Osun Govt.

Osun Government says improved aesthetics, expansion of the scope of work and torrential rainfall witnessed in Osogbo coupled with the desire not to compromise standards are factors responsible for the delay in completing the Olaiya Flyover this November as earlier scheduled.

The government, however, assured that with the current stage and pace of work, the project would be delivered before the end of the year. 

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola had promised Osun State residents that the project would be ready by November 27th, while flagging off the construction of the flyover in February this year.

The Osun State Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mr. Remi Omowaiye, in an interview with journalists, said the need to perform all due diligence for the structural stability of the flyover contributed to the delay.

He added that because of the depth of the retaining wall, the consultant insisted that it had to be in layers and each of the layers had to be tested before work proceeded. 

The commissioner explained that at the beginning of the project, some weeks were lost because the consultant insisted that the samples of the reinforcement and the rock under it must be taken to three different laboratories in different states to satisfy all due diligence before proceeding. 

Mr. Omowaye said all these were responsible for the reason the flyover would not be opened up this month as earlier promised. 

While pleading for the understanding of residents of the state, he assured that with the level of work done so far, before the end of December, the Olaiya Flyover would be open to the public.

Health Stakeholder Partners Osun Govt. On Free Surgery

Over 100 adults and children in Osun State at the weekend benefited from the free surgery initiated by the Ilerioluwa Medical Outreach. 

Herniorhaphies, herniotomies, excision of various lumps, and hydrocelectomies surgeries were conducted on patients by the medical team. 

The medical fiesta which was sponsored by the Osun State Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr. Remi Omowaiye in partnership with a private Therapist organisation was held at the State Specialist Hospital Ilesha, Osun State. 

Speaking at the venue of the surgery, Mr. Omowaiye said the gesture was to complement the effort of the government in providing medicare for the ordinary citizens.

Mr. Omowaye who said the intervention cost millions of naira maintained that the beneficiaries were not members of any party, but just people who had the announcement on Radio Nigeria Gold FM and decided to take advantage.

He added that the surgery covered four areas and over 100 people including 40 children and 70 adults, both males and females, while he also assured that their post-surgical treatment would be attended to. 

Leader of the medical team, Dr Simeon Afolayan said about 50 medical personnel including experienced surgeons, anesthetists and nurses were part of the team.

Dr Afolayan who commended the efforts of the sponsor, Mr. Remi Omowaye said the exercise was limited to cases such as hernia, breast lump, outer lumps and lipoma.

Similarly, former Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospitals, Osogbo, Professor Femi Fadiora who is renowned surgeon described the gesture of hinted that each of the beneficiaries  would not have paid less than 62 thousand naira, while others could be as much as 400 thousand naira  in public health institutions for the surgery.

A beneficiary, Mr. Funminiyi Isadare noted that he would have had his herniotomy removed a long time ago, but for the financial constraints, thanking the commissioner for the kind gesture.

Many women who had the surgery performed on their children betrayed their emotions as the rolled on the ground in appreciation of the Commissioner.
