The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the alleged assassination of a forty-year-old man, Mr Babatunde Adeluka Olubasa by unknown persons inside a popular hotel at Ijapo Area of Akure. 

He was alleged to have been shot dead inside the hotel premises where he lodged last Saturday, after he was trailed to the hotel by three armed men after attending a function in Akure.

He was shot at the bar of the hotel where he relaxed to take a drink.

Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro, said it was a case of assassination.

Mr Ikoro disclosed that the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the killing, even as the entire premises of the hotel is now deserted.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the robbery incident that occurred at a filling station where an attendant was shot dead.

The filling station, located along Oba-Ile Road in Akure, the Ondo State capital, was attacked on Tuesday night.

The identity of the victim could not be ascertained when the incident occurred late yesterday.

Spokesman of the Ondo State Police Command, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the incident, said the two persons had been apprehended immediately after the incident.

Mr Ikoro noted that Ondo State will not be a hiding place for criminals, stressing that the command is ready to do everything possible to ensure protection of lives and property.

Few days after an Army Captain was abducted along Auga/Ikaramu Road in Akoko area of Ondo State, a Naval Commander whose identity is yet to be known, has also been kidnapped on Owo-Ikare Akoko Road by unknown gunmen.

The naval officer was said to be travelling to Abuja when the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers emerged from the bush and abducted him around Ose/Oba Akoko axis of the road, in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The kidnappers, it was learnt were already asking for a 50 million naira ransom before they can release their victim.

Report says rescue effort by a joint military/police team is ongoing as forest around the scene of the incident is being combed.

It was gathered that the Commanding Officer of 323 Artillery Brigade Command, Akure, Bridgadier General Zakari Abubakar, had visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation.

The rate of kidnapping on the Owo/Akoko areas of Ondo State despite many police checkpoints has been causing panic among travellers in the area.

Reacting, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro who confirmed the incident, said various tactical squads had been deployed to man the area.

The PPRO, however, enjoined all and sundry, especially travelers, to be security conscious while in transit, adding that the job of effective crime prevention, detection and control is for everybody and not for the police alone.
