Few days after an Army Captain was abducted along Auga/Ikaramu Road in Akoko area of Ondo State, a Naval Commander whose identity is yet to be known, has also been kidnapped on Owo-Ikare Akoko Road by unknown gunmen.

The naval officer was said to be travelling to Abuja when the gunmen suspected to be kidnappers emerged from the bush and abducted him around Ose/Oba Akoko axis of the road, in Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The kidnappers, it was learnt were already asking for a 50 million naira ransom before they can release their victim.

Report says rescue effort by a joint military/police team is ongoing as forest around the scene of the incident is being combed.

It was gathered that the Commanding Officer of 323 Artillery Brigade Command, Akure, Bridgadier General Zakari Abubakar, had visited the scene of the incident to assess the situation.

The rate of kidnapping on the Owo/Akoko areas of Ondo State despite many police checkpoints has been causing panic among travellers in the area.

Reacting, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro who confirmed the incident, said various tactical squads had been deployed to man the area.

The PPRO, however, enjoined all and sundry, especially travelers, to be security conscious while in transit, adding that the job of effective crime prevention, detection and control is for everybody and not for the police alone.
