Ogun Assembly Passes Education, Skills Trust Fund Bill

The Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA, has passed a bill to establish the Ogun State Education and Skills Trust Fund.

Lawmakers approved the bill after its third reading during plenary, marking a step toward strengthening education infrastructure and skills development in the state.

The House considered and adopted the bill, titled “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Ogun State Education and Skills Trust Fund for Rejuvenating Education Infrastructure and Facilitating Skills, and for Other Connected Purposes,” following the presentation of a report by Chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Mr Yusuf Amosun.

Mr Amosun moved the motion for its adoption, Mr Olakunle Sobukanla seconded it, while members unanimously supported the motion through a voice vote.

Lawmakers then examined the bill clause-by-clause at the Committee of the Whole and adopted it.

House Leader, Mr Yusuf Sheriff moved the motion for the third reading, and Mr Lukman Adeleye seconded it.

Clerk of the House, Mr Sakiru Adebakin read the bill for the third time, after which Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide directed that a clean copy be forwarded to Governor Dapo Abiodun for assent.

Meanwhile, the Assembly has begun consideration of two other bills that have scaled second reading.

The bills seek to strengthen land administration and promote peaceful coexistence among boundary communities.

They include the Ogun State Boundary Commission Bill, 2025, and the Survey and Geoinformatics Bill of Ogun State, 2026.

Leading the debate, Chairman, House Committee on Lands and Housing, Mr Damilola Soneye stressed the need for accurate land records, clear boundary definitions, and a legal framework for survey activities.

In his remarks, Speaker, Mr Oludaisi Elemide said effective implementation would determine the success of the proposed laws.

Mr Elemide thereafter referred the bills to the House Committee on Lands and Housing for further legislative action.

OGHA Speaker Wants Holistic Implementation of Anti-Open Grazing Law

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, OGHA, Mr Oludaisi Elemide had called on relevant authorities to ensure a holistic implementation of the Ogun State Anti-Open Grazing Law, with a view to controlling the movement of herdsmen across the state. 

Mr Elemide made the call while reacting to the report he received that some herders were moving cattle on the major roads in Ogun State.

The speaker also reacted to the menace of land grabbers terrorising some residents of the state as reported by the member representing Ewekoro State Constituency, Mr Yusuf Amosun.

Mr Elemide urged the people to approach a court of competent jurisdiction on matters relating to land grabbing and forceful evasion of landed property for redress.

He noted that it was high time everyone saddled with the responsibility of enforcing the Anti-Land Grabbing Law braced up and ensured sanity in land administration in order to avoid unlawful exploitation of the people and possible breakdown of law and order.
