The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSc, in Ogun state is to commence a Special Patrol Operations focusing on excessive speed and other dangerous driving during the Easter Celebration.

According to the sector Public Education officer, Mrs. Florence Okpe about one thousand and five hundred regular and Special Marshals have been deployed to oversee traffic activities on highways across the state.

She noted that operational equipment mobilised for the special operations include thirty five patrol vehicles , six advanced Life Support Ambulances five patrol motor bikes and two heavy duty tow trucks.

Mrs. Okpe listed other focus of the special operations to include lane indiscipline; Use of phone while driving, Seat belt violation and Overloading violation.

She hinted tyre violation, speed limiting device violation among others.

The Ogun State Sector Command also appealed to motorists to demonstrate the reason for this season by showing love to fellow road users by sharing the road responsibly and obeying traffic rules.

Crime

Seven people have been presumed dead while three other persons sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal crash that occurred at Sandcrete Ogunmakin Area on Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

The accident which occurred around ten minutes to eleven in the evening involved a bus and a truck with an unidentified registration number due to the nature of the crash.

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Ogun Sector Command, Mrs. Florence Okpe said the two vehicles had a head-on collision due to one of them driving against traffic which resulted in a fire outbreak.

Mrs. Okpe explained that the seven people were burnt beyond recognition while three other persons sustained injuries during the crash.

She said the injured victims had been taken to a private hospital in Ogere for medical attention.

Mrs. Okpe emphasized the need for motorists to desist from driving against traffic considering the dangers attached to route violation.
