The Ogun State Police Command says it has recorded a noticeable decline in crime rate in the first quarter of 2025 with 2,141 suspects arrested for various crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, rape, and cultism. 

The command also noted that 1,530 suspects were prosecuted between January and March 2025.

This was contained in a statement release by the Police Public relations officer, Mrs Omolola Odutola in Abeokuta for the command’s first quarter review, between January and March, 2025.

The command’s spokesperson attributed the success to the direct interface with citizens and community engagement, which helped bridge the communication gap between the police and the public.

While expressing gratitude to Governor Dapo Abiodun for the technical and logistical support as well as the cooperation of the people of the state, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Lanre Ogunlowo reiterated the command’s commitment to maintaining its partnership with citizens to ensure the safety and security.

Mr Ogunlowo then appealed to parents and guardians to monitor the activities of their wards, especially with regards to cult related activities.

The 200 Level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, FUNAAB, Solomon Destiny, earlier declared missing by the Police in Ogun State has been found. 

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Omolola Odutola, the 200L student of Animal Breeding and Genetics was found alive and currently receiving medical attention. 

He was said to have gone missing on Thursday last Week around Ogboja village, along Oluwo – Osiele axis of Abeokuta, the State capital. 

The Police Public Relations Officer acknowledged the swift and proactive efforts of all stakeholders while Solomon was declared missing.

Operatives of Ogun State Police Command have rescued two teenagers from their abductors suspected to be kidnappers.

The 17 year old, Chindalu Umadi and 16 year old, Udeba David were rescued by the policemen attached to Oru Division in Ijebu.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Omolola Odutola who confirmed the incident in a statement in Abeokuta said the two teenagers were kidnapped in Ojo local government, Lagos State. 

According to her, two unknown individuals abducted them into a Toyota Saloon car, and the victims have no recollection of what happened during their captivity until they were abandoned near a riverside in Oru Ijebu.

The Command’s Spokesperson who said the teenagers claimed that they were on their way to play football when they were forcibly taken pointed out that efforts were on to reunite the teenagers with their families.

Mrs Odutola said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Alamutu expressed his satisfaction with this positive outcome and emphasized the need for parents to be vigilant, especially during the ember months which many believed to be notorious for increase in criminal activities. 

He also encouraged the teenagers to move in groups to minimize the risk of falling victim to such incidents.
