FRSC Goes Tough on Violators of Traffic Rules

Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has constituted a task force operation team in collaboration with the Police, to clamp down on unauthorized use of sirens and other irregularities on roads.

This is contained in a statement in ibadan signed by the FRSC corps commander in Oyo state, Mrs Uche Chukwurah.

Mrs Chukwurah noted that flashlights, beacon lights, unauthorized use of spy Numbers, right-hand drive, and number plates abuse had also been banned.

The FRSC sector commander stated that the illegal use of the above vehicle features and other road irregularities were contrary to the provision of section 10(3) of the FRSC Establishment Act, 2007.

She said only ambulances and vehicles belonging to armed forces, political stakeholders, Nigeria Police, fire service and other para-military agencies were allowed to use sirens and other classified features.

Mrs Chukwurah said those features should be alarm signals to herald vehicles in emergencies and also meant to clear the roads for security purposes.

She noted that the abuse of sirens had been used to harass and intimidate innocent road users.

The FRSC Commander in Oyo State added that any erring road users found guilty would be prosecuted and liable on conviction to a fine or term of 7 months imprisonment.

Oyo FRSC Kicks Off “Operation Zero Tolerance”

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Oyo State Command has begun special patrol codenamed “Operation Zero Tolerance” to tackle traffic gridlocks on major roads.

This is contained in a statement signed in Ibadan by the Oyo State Corps Public Relations Officer, Mr Chijioke Inyama.

According to the Sector Commander in the state, Mrs Uche Chukwurah, this action became imperative at achieving a hitch and crash-free festive celebrations.

Mrs Chukwurah notes that the corps had deployed one thousand, eight hundred personnel while twenty-one patrol vehicles, one ambulance and one tow truck are also on ground.

The Oyo State FRSC boss says one life-support ambulance, a heavy duty tow truck, breathalysers, extracting machines and a 24-hour rescue team will also be on ground for prompt rescue services.

She notes further that the turning identified at Iwo Road will be blocked to guide against motorists driving against traffic to ensure that the gridlocks along that corridor is seamless.

Mrs Chukwurah therefore warns all motorists to follow all the road safety rules or face the consequences.

She adds that in the area of enlightenment, FRSC will sustain its aggressive motor parks public campaigns to ensure maximum compliance with the directives on physical distancing, face mask usage and sanitising of hands to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
