The essence of fasting during Ramadan is to show devotion to Allah and practice self-discipline in order to purify one’s soul.

This was the submission of Imam Abdul-Rasheed Adedeji while delivering a sermon during the Eid prayer of the Muslim students society of Nigeria, Oyo Area Unit held in Ibadan. 

Imam Adedeji who emphasized that Ramadan is a month to train hearts, and souls for the purpose of developing a love for and connection with Allah, explained that, fasting is beyond observing physical abstinence but, to refrain Muslims from any hurtful utterances, lies, and unnecessary comments which could lead to disunity in the society.

He called on incoming elected political officeholders to fulfil their electioneering promises and be accountable to the electorate. 

The Islamic Scholar reminded the leaders to justify the confidence reposed in them by living up to expectations. 

Imam Adedeji however called on Nigerians to be in one accord, in other to protect the unity of Nigeria regardless of their backgrounds and prayed to Allah to grant the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu wisdom and guidance to direct the affairs of the country.

The Amir, Muslim students society of Nigeria, MSSN, Oyo Area Unit, Mallam Abdul Kabir Yakeen in an interview with Radio Nigeria enjoined Muslims to sustain the lessons of Ramadan and remain dedicated to Allah. 

He congratulated the Muslim Ummah globally on the successful completion of the Ramadan fast.

Police command, Ogun State says, it has put a robust security arrangement in place to ensure hitch free Sallah celebration.

 The Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun who stated this in Abeokuta noted that men and officers of the command had been deployed to strategic locations to nip any violent crime in the bud.

Mr Ajogun said Area Commanders and DPOs had been directed to embark on 24 hours surveillance around various praying grounds as well as events and recreation centers across the State.

The Commissioner of Police while felicitating Muslim faithful urged them to reflect on the reasons for the Sallah celebration and be good ambassadors of Islam by ensuring peace at all times.

 He also appealed to members of the public to alert the Police whenever they noticed any strange or suspicious faces, gathering or movement in their domain in order to assist the security agencies to perform their duties to the optimal level.

As Muslim faithful prepare for the Eid El Kabir celebration, Radio Nigeria visited some major markets in Ibadan metropolis.

 Prices of consumable commodities have increased in Ibadan with Eid el Kabir a few days away.

 A survey reveals that the prices of food stuff such as Rice, vegetable oil, palm oil, tubers of Yams, Yam floor ,rams also prices of shoes, clothes and bags have increased.

  A ram seller Mallam Abba Gurduba said the prices of Rams this year compared to last year was high.

He said a moderate sized ram which was sold for#30,000 last year was #50,000, while prices of big rams had also increased to#240,000 from #120,000.

 Other Items including rice, tomatoes, onions, pepper and vegetables had also increased.

A bag of rice is now sold for#27,000 as opposed to the previous price of#20,000, 25 liters of vegetable oil has risen to #23,000 compared to the previous price of #19,000, while a small basket of tomatoes sold for #6,000 and a basket of rodo is sold for#34,000.

 Fabric sellers including a woman who sells bags and shoes, Mrs Funmilayo Okunlola said that buyers had been scanty, lamenting that the economic situation was affecting their business.

 Customers at the market lamented that, prices of items were too expensive, thus preventing them from purchasing as they wished.
