The Delta State Governor Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has commended the Nigerian military and paramilitary agencies for the peace being enjoyed in the state in the past seven and half years of his administration.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa stated this in Asaba at the 2022 West African Social Activities Day, held at the 63 Brigade garrison theatre in the state capital.

Dr. Okowa who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government Mr. Patrick Ukah, promised the continued collaboration between the state government, the Army and other security agencies to maintain the peace.

The Commander 63 Brigade, Brigadier General David Saraso, in a speech delivered by the 63 Brigade Garrison Commander Lieutenant Colonel Raphael Adom, noted the annual West African Social Activities was a tradition inherited from the colonial era to celebrate the achievements in military operations with their families.

The occasion witnessed performances by different cultural dance troops; a tug-of-war competition between soldiers and youth corps members; and the recognition of some personnel for outstanding performance.

The event also featured the Beating of the Retreat by the 63 Brigade Army Band, while a bonfire was also lit at the camp to signify the climax of all Military Training Exercise for the year 2022.

Defence Headquarters says troops of operation Sahel Sanity have continued to defeat bandits in the Northwestern part of the country as troops arrested 5 Suspected bandits, Neutralized 7 Bandits, recovered fire arms and 200 rustled animals in Sokoto, Katsina and Zamfara  States.

Brig. Gen. Benard Onyeuko, Acting Director Defence Media Operations revealed this in a statement he issued to Radio Nigeria.

He explained that, on the 14th July, 2020 troops deployed at Forward Operation Base in Bingi Village arrested 5 Suspected Bandits who displayed 17 cows and a Goat for sale at Bingi Market in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State following a credible information, which investigation shows that the animals were rustled from Gabiya Village, the troops also in same day arrested one bandit informant at Isa-Matete junction in Isa Local Government of Sokoto State.

The statement further said, troops of Defence Headquarters special Operation Forces deployed at Batsari had an encounter with some marauding Bandits at Jigawar-Malamai in Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State during which the troops professionally defeated the Bandits, killed 4, recovered One AK 47 rifle and 21 motorcycles which were instantly destroyed.

Brig. Gen. Onyeuko noted that, on 15 July 2020 troops conducted clearance operation on suspected Bandits hideouts at Garin Maza, Tamuske and Garin Bagwari Villages of Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State where they had encounter with Bandits, neutralized 3, recovered 6 motorcycles and destroyed the hideouts, similarly on 16th July, 2020 troops of Forward Operation Base, Dangulbi on clearance patrol to Dan-Kaka and Dan-Kura villages in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, on sighting the bandits abandoned 3 motorcycles which were recovered by the troops.

According to the statement, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai has commended the troops for gallantry, successes and resilience in a quest to restore peace and security in the region.

He therefore assured people of the Northwest zone of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the safety of lives and property within the Zone.
