A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mr Ahmed Raji, has described the demise of the Alaafin of Oyo, His Royal Majesty, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, as shocking, saying it connoted the end of an era.

Mr Raji, SAN also commiserated with Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the entire Yoruba race over the death of the late Alaafin.

He condoled with the late royal father’s family, the government and the people of Oyo State over the unfortunate incident which he identified as a normal phenomenon in every human existence.

Mr Raji, SAN said that Alaafin’s transition was a personal loss because, the late Oba was a memorable father and benefactor who was always ready to identify with people of Yoruba race throughout the world and proffer historical, cultural and traditional solutions to every plight that confronted them at all times.

Mr Raji described the late monarch as a strong believer in ideal and developed human society.

“Kabiesi Adeyemi remained focused on his missions as the longest-serving Alaafin of Oyo from the beginning of his reigns in 1970 to today that he joined his last ancestors.

Mr Raji, SAN said he received the news of theKabiesi’s death with shock and sadness, and described Adeyemi III as a humble and amiable monarch despite his revered position, noting that the Yoruba race has lost an institution of the Yoruba race.

While praying to Allah to overlook his shortcomings and admit him to Al Jannah Firdaus, Mr Raji, SAN prayed to God to grant Alaafin Adeyemi III’s immediate family, Governor Makinde and the entire people of Oyo State the fortitude to bear the loss.

The death of Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba (Dr) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III has been identified as a loss of cultural, traditional and historical banks of the Yoruba race.

Akosin of Yorubaland Chief Habeeb Okunola made the remark in his condolences to the family of the late Paramount ruler of Oyo kingdom, Oba (Dr) Adeyemi, people and government of Oyo State over the death of the custodian of Yoruba history and tradition.

According to Chief Okunola, The late monarch was not only a father to the people of Oyo but to the generality of people in Yorubaland going by his unique way of relating with people and contributing to their uplift not minding their cultural, religious, tribal and economic differences.

He posited that the death of Alaafin came at a time he was most needed to reposition Oyo State and Nigeria to become peaceful and secured human societies.

Akosin condoled with the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Mainde, the Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, the people of Oyo town particularly the immediate family of Oba Adeyemi and the Oyo Mesi over the demise of a memorable Oba in Yorubaland.

“Kabiesi Alaafin no doubt came to this world, saw a lot of things and conquered numerous ones which he used for the better livings of not only his subjects but every being he related within the capacity of a traditional ruler,” Chief Okunola disclosed.

He prayed onto God to be with the family the Imperial Majesty left behind while he added that they shall all be given fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss of someone so dear to them.

Chief Okunola appealed to God to forgive the shortcomings of Alaafin Adeyemi and reward all his deeds with  Aljannat Firdaus.

In line with his belief that health is wealth, but essentially to mark his 82nd birthday anniversary, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has flagged off a three-day free medical treatment programme for people of the ancient town.

The programme, which is being coordinated by an NGO from the northern part of the country, is for ailments related to diabetes, hepatitis, hypertension, ulcer, arthritis and rheumatism among others.

A cross-section of people, who turned out for registration at Alafin’s palace thanked Oba Adeyemi for the initiative and wished him more years of great service to humanity.

Earlier, chairman of Oyo Metropolitan Community, Archbishop Ayo Ladigbolu had described Alafin’s guesture at a time like this as a big birthday gift to his people, saying it would remain ever green in the history books.

The programme, which recorded a massive turnout, was conducted under strict Covid-19 safety protocols.
