Reports from Olowe a village in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun State, say the traditional ruler of the village, Chief Akin Muheedeen, have been burnt to death by yet-to-be-identified persons.

The killing and burning of the Chief Muheedeen is coming about a month after that of the Olu of Agodo, Oba Ayinde Odetola who was also killed and burnt in Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state.

Reports indicated that the community head had gone out to observe the Morning Prayer at the mosque before the fire was discovered within his compound.

Family sources said some unknown persons broke in through the window to gain access to where the man was killed before setting him ablaze.

When contacted, Ogun State Police Command spokesman, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said he was awaiting briefing on the incident.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has condemned the murder of Oba Ayinde Odetola, the traditional ruler of Agodo in Ewekoro local government area of the state.

In a statement in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun directed the security agencies to immediately fish out the killers of the monarch and three of his aides who were assassinated by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.

While declaring that his administration would not tolerate breach of peace and harmony in the state, the Governor said his administration would deal decisively with the perpetrators of the assassination by prosecuting and meting out the full wrath of the law on them.

Governor Abiodun described the incident as unfortunate, noting that politics, land and chieftaincy matters should not attract self-help and killings.

He also warned parents and guardians to call their children and wards to order, pointing out that no plea for clemency would be tolerated for acts of brigandage, murder and illegal conducts.

While commiserating with the family of the late monarch and the residents of Agodo town, Governor Abiodun gave the assurance that the killers would not go unpunished for carrying out such heinous act.

Ogun State police command has commenced investigation into the alleged assassination of a traditional ruler in Ewekoro local government, the Alagodo of Agodo, Oba Ayinde Odetola by hoodlums.

The state police command Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident. He said the state commissioner of police, Mr. Lanre Bankole and the Special Security Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Mr. Olusola Subair had visited the town for an on the spot assessment of the situation.

The PPRO stated that the town had been deserted at the time of the visit noting that the police commissioner had directed that the homicide unit of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Police Command should commenced investigation into the matter.

Three other persons alongside the Alagodo of Agodo, Oba Ayinde Odetola were also reportedly burnt in the incident.

The assassination was reported to be unconnected to a chieftaincy crisis between the Ake and Owu people of Egbaland on who occupies the Alagodo seat.

The Olu of Agodo’s palace was on Monday besieged by armed thugs, who killed the king and three other persons.
