The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, has donated ten million naira and one thousand bags of rice to the disengaged staff of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, OAUTH Ile-Ife, Osun state to Ameliorate their suffering as a result of the non-payment of their eleven-month unpaid salaries.

Oba Ogunwusi announced the donation in his palace in Ile-Ife while addressing the angry youths.

The traditional ruler assured them that he was working with relevant stakeholders including the Federal Ministry of Health among others to resolve the crisis.

Speaking on behalf of the disengaged workers, their spokesperson, Mr Samson Falope, explained that the hospital management served them a circular last week Wednesday, disengaging over 1,500 workers from their duty posts after serving the institution for about 15 months without any salary. 

Mr Falope noted that the sacked workers had made an attempt to seek an audience with the Management of the hospital but all to no avail.

Some armed policemen on Monday chased away protesters who were armed with placards at the main entrance of the hospital.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi has emphasised the need for leaders to embrace the use of local products.

Oba Ogunwusi made the call in his palace in Ile-Ife when he received two vehicles and three motorbikes from an indigenous vehicle manufacturing company in commemoration of his 8th year on the throne.

He said the sure way to grow the nation’s economy was for all to cultivate the habit of using more local content, urging leaders at various levels to show examples.

Oba Ogunwusi called on political leaders to desist from promoting foreign commodities, adding that Nigerian lawmakers should make it mandatory for anyone having any business with the parliament to wear and make use of indigenous products.

The monarch also charged President Bola Tinubu, governors and federal lawmakers to include locally made and assembled vehicles in their fleet.

Security

South-West governors and some first class traditional rulers in the Southwest zone of the country are currently holding a security meeting at the Executive Chamber of the Agodi Government Secretariat, Ibadan.

The meeting which commenced at about 3 pm has in attendance the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, NGF, Dr Kayode Fayemi, Governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Gboyega Oyetola of Osun and the host governor – Mr Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

Among the traditional rulers that are participating in the meeting are the Ooni of Ife – Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; Alaafin of Oyo – Oba Lamidi Adeyemi; Akarigbo of Remo – Oba Babatunde Ajayi; Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom – Fedrick Akinrutan; Olubadan of Ibadan – Oba Saliu Adetunji and Olugbon of Orilegbon – Oba Francis Alao.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, in charge of the South-West – Mr David Folawuyo, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police – Ngozi Onadeko and other heads of security agencies in Oyo State are also in attendance.

The Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari – Professor Ibrahim Gambari; Inspector General of Police – Mohammed Adamu and the Director General of the Department of State Security, DSS – Yusuf Bishi could not make the journey to attend the meeting due to bad weather.

It is expected that the chairman of the Southwest governors’ forum, Governor Akeredolu will brief journalists at the end of the meeting.
