Ogun Police Command Commence Enforcement of Third-Party Motor Insurance

In compliance with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Ogun State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of third-party motor insurance across the State.

The enforcement exercise began on Saturday, February 1, 2025, with the State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo leading the operation in major areas of Abeokuta, including Olomore, Ibara, and OPIC Panseke, to monitor compliance levels among motorists.

A statement by the Command Spokesperson, Omolola Odutola says the exercise reveals significant adherence to the directive, while some motorists appeal for additional time to update their vehicle insurance.

The statement shows that, during the enforcement exercise, motorists without valid third-party insurance but with other required vehicle documents were granted a grace period and educated on the importance of compliance.

According to the statement, CP Ogunlowo notes that third-party motor insurance is a crucial safety measure that provides financial protection for accident victims and ensures insurance companies compensate those affected.

It says the Commissioner of Police urges all vehicle owners to regularize their insurance status immediately to avoid penalties, pointing out that the enforcement exercise will continue across the State as part of efforts to promote road safety and uphold the rule of law.

Student Commits Suicide in Ogun

A 400- level female student of a government-owned University in Ogun State, Adaze Jaja, has reportedly committed suicide in an hotel

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command,  Omolola Odutola, said the 31 year old lady committed the act with  poisonous substance .

The PPRO explained that the scene of the crime was visited and the empty poisonous substance bottle was recovered.

According to the PPRO , the body of the deceased had been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University mortuary for an autopsy ,adding that  Investigation into the case had begun and the institution’s authority had been notified.

Policeman Arrested Over Ijaduade’s Shooting

Ogun State Police Command says it has arrested a riot policeman who allegedly shot movie director, Azeez Ijaduade at a movie set in Ilisan Remo area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO in Ogun State, Omolola Odutola confirmed this in a statement in Abeokuta.

She explained that the police officer attached to a Chinese expatriate, allegedly expended a shot into the air during the end of the year party in the area, but Ijaduade was unfortunately hit.

The police spokesperson noted that the mobile policeman had been identified and an investigation into the shooting incident had commenced.

She added that the movie director was confirmed stable when visited at the hospital where he was rushed to, and would be discharged soon.

Middle Aged Woman in Police Net for Selling Baby

A 33-year-old woman Olaide Adekunle has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for selling her 18-month-old baby at the rate of 600,000 naira to yet to be identified buyer.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi in a statement in Abeokuta said the suspect was arrested following a complaint lodged at Sango divisional headquarters by the woman’s husband, Nureni Rasaq.

According to the statement, the suspect’s husband said his wife, Olaide, left home for Lagos on the 15th of March 2023 with their baby girl but returned home without the baby.

Mr Oyeyemi explained that the suspect confessed to having sold the baby to someone in Lagos, stating that she borrowed money from a microfinance bank and was unable to pay back the money.

He said the suspect explained further that she ran to Lagos and started hawking sachet water because the bank agents were threatening to deal decisively with her.

The Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Babakura Muhammed, has directed that the suspect be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible recovery of the baby.

Two Lagos Car Thieves Nabbed In Ogun State

Ogun State Police Command has arrested two Lagos-based armed robbery suspects, Kenneth Akpa and Adebayo Michael.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested on information that a suspected stolen Toyota Corolla 2008 model was sighted at a mechanic workshop along Ogere/Iperu road where the suspected robbers were fixing the car. 

He said the two suspects were arrested and the vehicle with registration number MUS 599 GV was recovered while the owner of the car, one Mr James Ushahemba, a resident of Ahoyaya in Lagos was contacted and showed up at Iperu for identification.

The car owner explained that he was attacked in his home by the two armed men who robbed him of his Toyota Corolla car, three phones and cash of thirty thousand naira at gunpoint. 

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Lanre Bankole has directed that preliminary investigation should be conducted in Abeokuta while the case should be forwarded to Lagos State Command where the suspects will be charged to court accordingly.

Grandfather In Police Net For Impregnating Granddaughter In Ogun

A 70 year old old man, Hunsu Sunday has been arrested by men of Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling his 15-year-old granddaughter and subsequently impregnating her.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi said the suspect was arrested after the aunt of the victim had reported the sexual assault on the girl at Ado-Odo Ota Divisional Headquarters.

Mr Oyeyemi said the aunt claimed that the girl had been living with her grandfather since the demise of her mother, adding that the victim informed her that her grandfather had been abusing her sexually for quite some time.

The Ogun PPRO who said the suspect was arrested, explained further that the grandfather confessed to the crime, claiming that he was not aware that her granddaughter was pregnant.

Mr Oyeyemi said the victim had been taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Mr Edward Ajogun has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Ogun Police Launches Manhunt for Suspected Killer

Ogun State Police Command says the manhunt has begun to track down a suspected killer terrorising the people of Ogere, Iperu, Ilisan and other communities in Remo North Local Government Area of the state.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi made this known while speaking on the reported killing of some people by a drug addict and cultist one Feyisola Dosunmu at Ogere.

The police spokesman said he could not confirm the number of deaths but stated that a complaint had been lodged with the police.

Mr. Oyeyemi hinted that the police would ensure that the suspect is arrested.

It was reported that the runaway suspect went on rampage and killed some people in the communities.
