Nigerian youths on Wednesday trooped to the streets of the Ondo State capital of Akure to hold peaceful procession to mark the first memorial anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.

In Akure, business and normal official activities in places like Oyemekun road, Oja Oba to Alagbaka area continued undisrupted even as security operatives provided protection for the youths who were marking the first anniversary of the #EndSARS protest.

The protesters matched from Old Garage in Akure and ended the #EndSARS Remembrance Day at the Ondo State Police Headquarters on Igbatoro Road where the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bolaji Salami addressed them and attributed the delay in the implementation of the panel report on the last year’s protest to paucity of funds on the part of the Ondo State government.

Mr. Salami promised to deliver the demands of the #EndSARS protesters to Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Some residents who spoke with our reporter on the #EndSARS anniversary are of the opinion that nothing had really changed as the injustice that was the main reason for the protest still existed in the society.

As the two-day holiday declared by the federal government to mark Eid-El-Kabir continues today, a visit to some streets in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital and other towns in the state shows that people are still in the mood of the celebration.

Vehicular and human movement were very light along Adebayo, Okesa, old garage, Ajilosun, Oja Oba and other popular areas which used to be centres of business activities.

Both commercial and private vehicles were few on major routes including the ever busy Ado-EKSU-Iworoko road.

Although commercial motorcyclists also known as Okada riders were busy conveying passengers to some areas where vehicles could not access, the numbers were also few compared to working days.

Reports from other towns in Ekiti State indicate that there is peace generally despite the fact that the presence of security personnel was not as visible as expected.

Some members of the public including Elder Dayo Abraham, Mr. Okonkwo Rilwan and Alhaja Risikat Idris thanked God for the season, adding that the holiday was actually a time of rest and celebration.

Some Muslim leaders and clerics in their words of admonitions during the two Rakat prayers yesterday had called on Nigerians especially politicians to rededicate themselves to the service of God and humanity in the spirit of love, sacrifice and obedience as exemplified by the holy prophets.
