Nigerians have been told to be mindful of the day of reckoning and abstain from acts capable of sending them to eternal damnation.

The Provost, Cathedral of Saint James the Great, Oke Bola, Ibadan, The Very Reverend, Dr David Olagbaju stated this while delivering a sermon during the funeral service of Late Engineer Emmanuel Oladeji.

The cleric bemoaned the moral decadence, corruption and sinful nature of human beings saying God’s judgement awaits whoever failed to desist from evil.

The Very Reverend Olagbaju who said the death was inevitable, however, said eternal life is certain for whoever accepts Jesus Christ.

In an interview, one of the daughters of Late Engineer Oladeji, who is also a former staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, Mrs Olatundun Olufosoye said her father was a disciplined man whose vacuum would be hard to fill.

The body of Late Engineer Oladeji was later laid to rest at the church cemetery, Oke Bola, Ibadan.

Nigerians have been advised to continue to trust in the Lord no matter the situation of the country.

The founder, Jesus Jewels International Church, Oke Bola, Ibadan, The Reverend Bode Jegede gave the advice in the in a sermon at the burial service for Madam Abike Ogunyemi.

The Reverend Jegede encouraged the congregation to be upright in all their daily activities and intensify their prayers for the nation.

He also admonished the congregation to emulate Madam Abike Ogunyemi who was God-fearing throughout her lifetime, reminding them that everyone would have account to give at the end of earthly sojourn.

In separate interviews, some of the children of the deceased said Mama Ogunyemi was a giver, caring, loving and prayerful mother.

Highlights of the burial ceremony were rendition of hymns, special anthems, and prayers for the children and grandchildren of the deceased.

Late Madam Ogunyemi who died at 80 years, was the mother of Mrs. Funmilayo Akinwumi Secretary to the Acting Zonal Director, Radio Nigeria Ibadan.

Worship centers in Ibadan recorded low turnout as Good Friday is observed across the world.

Good Friday is observed by Christians to acknowledge the trial, suffering, crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Christian adherents commemorate the day by acting the out the event through carrying of the cross and accepting to be beating a rally.

In Ibadan, the situation was a total deviation from the usual annual event as most of the churches visited only held their services at different period of the day.

 At Saint James Cathedral, Oke Bola, few members were present during two separate services to mark the day.

 Radio Nigeria observed that songs rendered reflected the death of Jesus on the cross for the redemption of mankind

The situation was not different at the Methodist Church Nigeria, Ekotedo where the members converged to commemorate the day.

In an interview the presbyter of the church, Very Reverend Abraham Akinyode said Jesus demonstrated selflessness not by meeting the needs of people but by dying on the cross.

Very Reverend Akinyode used the occasion to lament the spate of kidnapping for ransom and attacks on farmland by herdsmen, saying failure of government to address the crises might lead to famine.

Very Reverend Akinode appealed to political leaders in the country to be selfless and initiate policies that would alleviate the suffering of the masses.

As Christians in Nigeria join the rest of the world to celebrate this year’s Christmas, clerics in Ibadan have called on government at all levels to address economic and security crises affecting the development of the country.

They made the call in their separate sermons during church services to mark the day.
